Ritenour spreads the joy in his music, not pain.I've listened to him since 1981. Still love his stuff; why? He expresses hope and joy. 'nuff said.

The thing about Lee is that he gets the best tone out of his guitars.....and leverages that mellow, full sound from those big, old fashioned jazz hollow body guitars manufactured by Gibson. Guitar tone is almost as critical as fluidity, speed and precision on the neck....so Lee is probably head and shoulders above other smooth jazz axe players.... in that regard. He explains why some musicians and wannabe guitar players will pay a king's ransom to get one of those classic Gibson jazz guitars......just a beautiful sound.

This man is man of excellence I took note watchin BET jazz back. In the early 90s when I was12. Total. Undeniable Prowess. I. Absolutely think. That if he ain't 1 of the 100 greatest guitar players of all time. According rolling stone i lose all. Confidence or believe. The knowledge. Purported by the publication. He can Wes Montgomery. John mclaughin and all points in betw in our een. Serious flipping powerhouse!!! He is in my opinion an absolute master. And god damn powde r keg of knowledge. There Are tons of really good players in our present time. But a lot of times. Great talent lose track of." The energetic flow " and fully convince themselves that it's all due to their individual leadership and it wasn't event at the helm the steering wheel of everything and yell and everybody do it right because they've so gone off the trail of Truth to their emotional into intelligence and appealing about sensitivity that it's there's a void in the honesty of this person's mind unfortunately but clearly Lee Ritenour really kept it cool this whole time and he did his due diligence in so much as he found a mental balance or meditated in because he's a cool customer taking out all of them, guitar players that you know he's one for the ages

Here's the thing about Ritenour.....he among smooth jazz guitar players who incorporates a lot of Wes Montgomery octave chords as single note style into the core of his live performances/numbers. So, it can be said he is keeping the musical legacy of Montgomery alive. In addition, he's playing the Montgomery licks on a guitar (Lee's fat old Gibson semi-hollow body) that embellishes the octave chord crisp and clean qualities. Listen to Montgomery recordings and you hear these plodding, muted, anything but clean guitar sound embedded in uninteresting songs/tracks that all sounded identical. I think one can say that Ritenour, above all other alive and kicking jazz guitarists, has elevated the Montgomery technique and blended it in a more upbeat even quasi-funk/rock/jazz motif.

This tune could have been named "Wes-Bound" in honor of the late jazz guitar genius who was credited for putting those octave or harmonic chords that Bumpin features on the musical landscape. Lee, Chuck and other current smooth jazz guitarists all have honored Wes Montgomery with tracks that feature his guitar sound....and this arguably is the best example of Wes sound in Lee's repertoire or catalog. You've got the Wes chords as the melody and also on solo excursions......Anyone still listening to Wes out there?
