Brisbane Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 here. I first come across the talent of Lee Roy about 17 or 18 years ago in the form of a CD ( Every nights a Saturday night ) that had fallen behind the music rack at the Caltex truckstop in Narrabri NSW, I'll never forget that night mostly because my son had been born earlier that day and here I was 800 Km from where I needed to be going in the opposite direction punching down the highway in a old Kenworth anteater with a wire on bypassing the speed limiter on a 550 cummins big banger purring like a runaway machine gun I'm watching the tacho needle touch a incredulous 2500rpm more than once without skipping cadence launching 42 tons of reefer down the asphalt like a Saturn V headed for the moon except I'm aiming for Melbourne and a meltdown.. Anyway the Caltex had sold out of all the usual Jimmy Barnes or Waylon & Willie CDs and all they had left was 1 single Celine Dion disk but Celine Dion and amphetamine fuelled land speed record attempts in old trucks just wasn't gonna be happening that night or any other night for that matter, but then this dust covered CD caught my eye as it slipped further down the gap it had fallen and sat there for a few years almost as if was fated to fall into my hands that night. The dust was that thick on it that they gave me the CD free of charge as the price sticker couldn't be read. From the very moment I inserted that disk into the overhead stereo and let it play I became a Lee Roy Parnell fan. Thanks Mate you've been shotgun on many a overnighter back in the day.

His touring band is a group of talented musicians you don't want to miss. If Lee Roy is anywhere near your area don't miss him, even if it requires an overnight road trip. DT - that's a great way to put it, IMO. The world is such a mess now. I like 80's country...but it is a little too simplistic. Post 2000? Like Mainstream music - it's become largely a shallow mess. But 90's country music? It had decency, depth and an edge.

@jmb87834 жыл бұрын
@@McRocket I also like 90s country. You've put more of a finger on it than most comments I see. Maybe it actually is more than just my age. Decency (mostly), depth (often), and an edge... hmm... maybe that's the part I haven't quite been able to put my finger on. It sounds right, but what do you mean when you say that? Somehow, Travis Tritt pops into my mind...
@McRocket4 жыл бұрын
@@jmb8783 Thanks for the great comment. Honestly, I am not positive what I mean by an 'edge'. But if I had to guess, To me - country music at it's roots is real and decent. It's kind of black and white, right and wrong, love and sex and politically correct. But life is not like that. Life is gray and edgy and often confusing and not PC. And I think '90s country started embracing that...without losing it's decency. Plus, since Top 40 had abandoned rock and roll at that time...I think Country Music injected it into itself. It filled a void. Unfortunately, now Country seems to have gone too far. It has gotten just flat out shallow now (which is the same with Top 40 pop...it's just a mess.). It has lost it's decency and heart. Edge without depth is just empty. That is what most popular music is today to me - country and pop - empty. Like eating a plain, rice cake. Sorry for the long winded explanation. But that was the best I can do.

What a wonderful road song , this quickly became a favorite of mine when I began my long haul trucking career. I was single at the time and left a career in automotive repair behind me and thought I would discover myself “on the road “ . I’m not sure I found what I was looking for but definitely a life experience many will never see . I don’t do long haul anymore but it was a stepping stone to local trucking I do now . On the road where the night is black , on the road you don’t look back , there’s a white line in the distance where it goes nobody knows is vary true !

This song is still great, and I also like the fact that he can play that guitar. Back with other's like Vince Gill, Marty Stuart, and Travis Tritt just to mention some. When Vince Gill made a comment at an awards show basically country music losing it's country sound I was already feeling that way. I couldn't adjust to the knew artists, and by the late 90's it was like pop music. This song takes me back to those day's of concerts, the rodeo's, and riding mechanical bulls drunk in Abilene Texas. Man I miss that time, and place, but it probably isn't the same as it was. Anyone know if it's still ok to wear cowboy boots, hats, and big buckles? If so I'm coming back to ride those mechanical bulls at the age of 56, and show you how not to do it! 🤕🥃🎸
