Judd Strunk was a good friend of our family. His mother lived a few doors down from us and I used to cut her grass. He was such a warm spirit. We would gather around a fire in the big backyard roasting marshmellows and Judd would break out his banjo and my uncle Ike his accordian, they play and sing for hours. We lost him too early to a tragic accident. I will never forget those times with family and friends in that small town in upstate NY.

I remember the first time I heard this song. It was on Laugh-In and I think he was a regular later on in the show. I might be wrong about that…It was nearly 50 years ago. 😊 It’s so nice to hear good things about people. It warms my heart!

My grandfather sung this song to me all the time when he died I took a Daisy a day to his grave. And on the one year mark I took 365 daisies. I’ll love him until the rivers run still and he will never be replaced!

I agree. It's a tear-jerker for sure. Jud was actually a comedian, and he even recorded several novelty, or comical songs. Who would've thought his biggest hit would be a sweet and simple tear-jerker about true love? Beautiful song from my childhood.

This was one of my mother's favorite song. I played it at my wedding reception in her memory. There was not a dry eye in the place. I shed a tear every time I hear this. It's beautiful.

I sang this song to my son when he was little ... it was one of his favorites. "Sing me Daisy-a-day, Mama!" he would plead, saying the title like it was one word. That was 26 years ago, and the song still reminds me of rocking my little one with a smile on my face, all the while trying to hold back the tears.

Last weekend I was listening to an episode of American Top 40 from April 14, 1973. This song was in the countdown. Even though I was a teenager back then, it never sounded as beautiful as it does now. Thank you, Jud Strunk, for one of the simplest, yet most wonderful, love songs ever. Rest in peace.

My husband was not the most romantic guy in the world. A few months before we got married, he showed up for a date and when I opened the door, he pulled a bouquet of daisies from behind his back and sang "Daisy a Day." We'd been married 28 years when he died of cancer. Whenever I hear Daisy a Day on the radio - they play it every now and then - it brings me to tears.

my dad pasted in 2016 at age 82 he sang this and many other songs to us as kids i camped fished and hunted with my fokes for years. some times we could get dad to pick up the guitar and play us some tunes. before he pasted my sister and i decided to build a cd of the songs he used to sing us as kids when we were done there were approx 185 songs . at the end he had advanced Alzheimer's but you could see the smile and light come back to his eyes when we played him dads songs

I haven't heard this song for many years, even forgot some of the lyrics. But when "he walked to the top of the hill" I shed a few tears, for I lost my wife to cancer 8 years ago, though it seems like yesterday. It was just a short time ago I returned to the town where she was raised and we were married. It was here I walked up to the very top of the hill where she now rests. Thank you for your comment. Like so many great people and their sentiments, they become lost in wind. But, what you saw around the fire in his backyard and what Jud Strunk sang about were very real, once upon a time. As Jud said at the beginning of the video, I'm glad I wrote it. This song was about him and all of the neighbors around him felt the same. That was their ideal, their dream of the way the world should be.

I had the benefit of hearing Jud sing this song at his mother's house in Springville, NY in 1977? He drove up in a beat up old limo with his kids in tow. We sat by Pete's Pond and listened to his banjo. Later when I was 14 I heard him play in Ellicotville at the Depot, fake IDs. And in 1979 he came back with the Complin Kitchen Band and played The little Orange Thing. I still remember all the words. He motivated me to learn the guitar and I play many of his songs to this day.

I remember "Daisy a Day" very well. Thank you, Mr. Strunk. I wish to dedicate this wonderful ballad to the love of my life - Lee Remick, who passed from this world on July 2, 1991. I have never been same and Lee took a big part of me with her when she left us. Lee - please know that you are not and will never be forgotten...I love you with all my heart.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jud when I was a DJ at WKTJ Farmington, Maine. That was in 1968, and it was one of the highlights of my time there. Then there was the snow, which set a record over 200 inches. But it was fun!

I remember Joe P. singing this and playing his guitar in our church in Turner. I always felt he was singing to his wife "Peg". I miss him, his voice, his friendship. I miss the comfort I found in our little country church and all the people who there then.. Vespers from Leavitt Institute. Christmas Eves. Chicken pie suppers, Alice's. My sisters weddings. Sunday School. Choir with Mr. McMorrin. Our overnight with the Youth Group going up Mt. Katadin. I was 13, and it rained both nights. We climbed it though. The Christmas tree downstairs, the variety shows. The first time I sang in public. I think I was 11. Kathrine and Mr. Luther Bonney in the front row. "Never stop singing". Jud Strunk (June 11, 1936-October 5, 1981) R.I.P. - Died way too young. Although much of Strunk's material was humorous, his most popular song was not. "Daisy a Day", which Strunk wrote and recorded in 1973, is a gentle, sentimental ballad in 3/4 time, describing the relationship between a boy and girl who ultimately grow old together. For every day of their lives, he gives her a daisy as a sign of their love. In the last verse, she has died, but her widower husband continues to make daily visits to her grave. The song made the Billboard Top 20 on both the country and pop music charts. The song still gives me goosebumps and makes me feel warm inside.
