The 225s did make it out to Bradford Fsq occasionally as early as 89! And interestingly the Harrogate HST service has recently been reinstated!

@rorymacve Leeds is the Clapham Junction of the north. I believe it actually has more train movements than any other station in the country but, since the trains are much shorter than the London commuter services, it doesn't have anything like the number of people passing through.

You could say Leeds is the Clapham Junction of the north. Thank you so much for the upload, its good to see Intercity, Regional Railways and West Yorkshire PTE trains scurrying about. Also a shot of a Intercity 225 tow. Was it being towed to Neville Hill or to Bradford Forster Square?
@kevinrussell27183 жыл бұрын
It would have been Bradford Forster Square. Neville Hill is at the other end of the station, and was electrified when Leeds was, to allow for movements of Mk4 stock.

Hello there, as I wondered about the diesel locomotive pulling an Intercity train in this video due to the Leeds to Bradford line not electrified yet, do you know when the Leeds to Morecambe line was electrified?
@smilerbull13 жыл бұрын
ah now this takes me back to standing at leeds for hours on end watching all the trains coming. i remember being there for the first passenger running of the class 91. and you can't beat the class 141. i used to love riding them as a kid.
@beeble200314 жыл бұрын
@rorymacve What do you mean, "killed off by privatisation"? There's still a daily direct return service between Bradford Forster Square and London Kings Cross.
@MrGriser14 жыл бұрын
Did you see any 101s on the Skiptons and Ilkleys plus any 47s on the transpenines?
@banjokitten13 жыл бұрын
@encysplod They also went to Skipton as well - and that was before the Airedale line was electrified, and much longer before extra neutral zones were added to support 91's along the route!
@javiergomez997011 жыл бұрын
Hello there, didn't the diesel locomotives pull Intercity 225s to Skipton until the line was electrified?
@kevinrussell27183 жыл бұрын
No - only to Bradford Forster Square. The Skipton - London Kings Cross service didn't start until much later.

What a fab video. This brings back lots of childhood memories! The IC 225s were very much BRs flashy new flagship then and It was the first time I ever saw the new "swallow" livery. They were awesome then and still are. By comparison the pacers look cheap and dated even in 1990. Thankfully Leeds station has gotten much better since then but they haven't. They should have been gotten rid of ages ago. I never knew the Intercity served Bfd Fsq at that time though! Funny noise from the 91 at 5:55?
@soundseeker6312 жыл бұрын
That was a London KX - Bradford FSQ service, but the line to Bradford was not electrified until 1995 so up until that time it had to be diesel hauled for the final Leeds- Bradford leg. Normally a diesel HST was used to save needing a loco change over.
@rorymacve14 жыл бұрын
@beeble2003 Yeah, but no pullman service

@bloodgod123456 They're the chimneys of Tower Works, a pin factory which closed in 1981. They're based on famous Italian towers and, while much of the works has been demolished, they're listed so still there. Search for "tower works holbeck urban village" for more information.

Best bit - 47418 dragging 91011 and train to Bradford Forster Sq. Believe the 'generator' was Holbeck allocated at the time.
@rorymacve14 жыл бұрын
Bradford Pullman, thats another thing that was killed off by Privatisation! =-( Would have been great if the 225 set was being pulled by 89001!! =-D Also, the old MK4 layout looks way better than the new Mallard seating
@jdfi198013 жыл бұрын
Lovely to see the only mark 4 interior. Re 141111 at 0:433 does the destination read Hebden Bridge? I didn't think these were allowed to enter Bradford Interchange in service? Maybe that was just the original 141/0 and not the refurb? Great great vid

Very good video because the 225 was engaged by 47???? greeting gus

As the lines to Bradford forster square and Skipton were electrified in 1994, the Wharfedale line which goes to Ilkley was also electrified in 1994. But during this time, the east coast main line was already electrified.
@soundseeker6312 жыл бұрын
From what I can remember it was done in two phases. Leeds - Skipton was done first. Then the Ilkley and Bradford branches. The first phase may well have been completed in 1994. In either case the full electric service timetable commenced in spring 1995.

The Intercity 225 which arrives from London Kings cross, in those days they surely used the Wakefield line until the break up with one section going to Doncaster and the other going to Sheffield. They didn't always go to London Kings cross when using that line, they were also for Crosscountry services to Southern England where they would call at Sheffield. Only the ones to London Kings cross called at Doncaster.
@javiergomez997011 жыл бұрын
Weren't the Intercity 225s used for crosscountry services or only the 43s?

The train was the "Bradford Pullman". Another interesting point is the locomotive. It was 47418.

Hmm right. How I wondered was I looked at armley viaduct on google images and one picture showed a diesel locomotive pulling an Intercity train to Morecambe.

@rorymacve There have been no pullman services since the 1970s -- you can't blame privatization for that! I don't know if the service is still named but, at least in the 1980s and 1990s, it was the Bradford Executive.
@soundseeker6312 жыл бұрын
Its only electrified as far as Skipton, and was done in 1994/5
@javiergomez997011 жыл бұрын
Hello soundseeker63, I also learnt that the Huddersfield line is going to be electrified in the future
@javiergomez997011 жыл бұрын
That line is the Airedale line and it says it was electrified in 1991

So many smart liveries back then, Intercity swallow and WYPTE. Love the 141 action, wonder what happened to the ones exported to Iran?
