Britain´s best kept secret. Leeds is a multicultural, forward looking metropolis with world class academic, cultural and sports and leisure assets, such as Roundhay Park and Leeds Utd. Thanks a lot for sharing

Not forgetting the parts of Leeds that nobody wants to talk about (OR IMPROVE) i.e most of inner city Leeds & the vast number of depressing sink estates are filled with knuckleheads, degenerates, sewer mouthed slappers, working poor, (GOOD PEOPLE HAVING TO STRUGGLE) changing demographics, crime, poverty ETC Leeds can be a vortex of despair at times & Gentrification has made the place stale & soulless. The place was at its best in the late 80's , early to mid 90's. when the regeneration had just started -

@@trippy2johno280 sure, history books show us how leeds has a successful centuries long tradition of homing tens of thousands of refugees and migrants from all over the world looking for a better life

@@sarribel Not quite true, the immigrants in much of the UK we're pretty much demographically insignificant up until around 1948 when the government decided to implement their 'cheap labour agenda' against the wishes of the trade unions & the vast majority of the population. Leeds is a mess today with some of the worst inequality in the country. There are 150,000 people in Leeds living below the poverty line, that's nearly a third of the population?! Immigration has added to this problem (obviously) many issues abound in this messed up little Island

@@trippy2johno280 I know first hand what I am talking about Sir. My grandfather left the Basque Country escaping the repression against Basques of Gral Franco in the 30s with some other activists. After facing first rejection and second imprisonment in France, eventually they decided to cross the Channel as some many thousands do these days. Once in Britain they found refuge and a helping hand among the brave yorkshire people so he started a new life in Leeds. He seldom spoke any English at all but as a hard working man he managed to get through and met by choice some outstanding people of the Jewish faith as there have been tens of thousands of them living in the Leeds area for over 100 years, people also escaping racial hatred and death in central and eastern Europe. Leeds and Yorkshire gave my family a home, free health, free education and a warmth welcome. We felt part of the city for decades until the family was able to come back to Euskal Herria. Forever loiners

@@sarribel There were almost 3000 jews in Leeds by 1881, just less than 1% of the population at that time (309119) there was little noticeable change until the 'social engineering began in the late 40's This is what i meant by demographically insignificant.

I've lived in Leeds all my life except for eight years of military service, and I love it, it's the biggest city in Yorkshire and is getting better by the year, friends who visit from other parts of the U.K or abroad are amazed at what a vibrant and exciting metropolis it is. p.s. and the people are friendly.

As a stand alone city leeds is actually the 3rd largest english city and the 2nd financial centre of the uk after london. Its city centre is rapidly expanding with an aim to double it in size as it extends towards the south of the river, numerous skyscrapers are under construction and to be constructed plus other new builds which is giving the place a really good skyline, the city has beautiful streets with old style architecture mixed in with the new buildings which tend to be of a metal, glass and brick material due to its financial side. Great city!

Watching this i realise how little i now recognise. I went to Leeds Central High School from 1966 to 1971, travelling on the bus every day from Cross Gates, then walking to school from either the Bus Station or City Square, depending on which number of bus i caught. I left Leeds in 1972, and have rarely been back.

Leeds got its name from an ancient forest called Leodis that once stood in its place I believe? I don't believe it existed in the Viking age anyway, places in Leeds like Morley did though. Wakefield was the seat of Viking power for the west riding. As the Vikings would have said "Jorvik vestr þriðjungur". The university of Leeds wanted to collaborate with the council to create the world's first self repairing city using robotics and drones. Apparently around 4 and a half thousand jobs in advanced manufacturing are soon coming to Leeds, that's on top of the tens of thousands of jobs being created by these developments.. It's a great international city, and is a "Brain gain" city, it's GDP grew 40% in under ten years, and it's city centre is set to double in size over the next few years and an urban park is coming to central Leeds, it also has boat taxis that were imported from Holland. It's an outward looking city made up of people from across the world
