I used go to The Albion on Armley Rd, just outside the Greenbat factory gate. I was an apprentice there from '77 to' 80, it went under as part of Fairbairn Lawson. We used to have a pint and pie n peas for lunch, shandy of course!

Fforde Grene. Nowt better. Dire straits, Hank Wangford, Sex Pistols, Every frikkin group/band you could EVER imagine played there. Only place you could go in with £2.50 to your name, get pissed, watch a Tyson fight, play Hot Chocolate on the jukebox and come home with half a leg o’lamb for Sunday’s dinner, 3 DVDs (that weren’t at the cinema yet, probably still in production) and three pound change (and the taxi was only 0.80p home!😂 Best pub, EVER. EVER. Long live the Ffordey.

A citywide decimation of the local pub and the suburban superpub .Leeds is not alone in this ,the same has happened to Nottingham and is perhaps the most pronounced in Wolverhampton and down the road in South/South East Birmingham.

On one hand it’s sad. But people have voted with their feet. The pubs simply don’t have the demand they once did. A lot of young men will head to the gym now rather then sit in a pub.
@bravo2966 Жыл бұрын
They didn't so much vote with their feet, more forced to vote financially because of the government imposed high prices. You used to be able to go in any of these pubs with a fiver and have a good night. That price trebled and more over a few short years and people simply didn't have the disposable income any more.

The Seven Sisters was a working mens club, it became the Hill Top pub in mid 1980 and then changed its name again to something like the Park View towards the end of its life. Now gone and houses on the site.

@bravo2966 Жыл бұрын
You clearly don't understand, you think a pub is somewhere to just go and sit. Pubs were the heart of British community, it's where people from all over the community got together, had fun together, had birthdays, engagements, weddings, socialising, resolved community disagreements, a job centre, crimes solved, the list goes on. The destruction of pubs is the destruction of traditional British communities. That makes you laugh because you had no idea.
