Melbourne Storm won the game with a team paid 4 times what leeds were allowed to pay its own players however later in the year the storm were stripped of the title along with its 2009 NRL title after the club was found guilty of salary cap breaches, as such the Melbourne club at this time were a disgrace and should have faced harsher penalties

Leeds like eels were not awarded the win .individual awards medallions an ring's were allowed to be kept.
