(www.green-talk.com) Leek greens are typically tossed in the compost. But didn't you know they are quite tasty? Consider dehydrating them and use them in numerous ways. Let me show you how to dehyrate them.

Never once did I though about tossing the greens. I always use the whole leek for cooking. But thank you very much for the tip. I will try dehydrating some tomorrow. Lately I became obsessed with vegetable chips.

Thank you so much for your tipps. I always keep the green part of leeks (as well as any other "waste" of onios, carrots, parsley stems...) and put it in the freezer. When I have a certain amount of those, I make stock or broth with all the "waste".

@Green-talk
@Green-talk 3 жыл бұрын
@@mellen5598 I put mine in a glass jar. If you have a vacuum sealer, vacuum sealing a ball canning jar is the best way to preserve them or eat them quickly. Left in a glass jar, air will eventually add moisture to them and they won't be as crispy. I don't really mind that since I add them to soups etc.

My lowest setting is 200°. I hope they don’t burn. They’re in the oven now. I will check them around the 4 or 5 hour mark. Any suggestions? Update: after one hour! They were done! Single layer, some of the smaller pieces were brown but the rest were perfect! I put in another two sheets. 🙂 Thanks!

You should place a damp chux (or similar) dish cloth under your chopping board on that granite bench top to stop it sliding around, that can be dangerous. But thanks for the tips, just pulled my first leek I ever grew 😊

I've air-fried them, tossed in olive oil, sprinkled with garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. I think 360°F for 15 minutres-- just like I do my Brussel sprouts. Not bad... I may do this, then crumble and put on top of my potatoe-leek soup, or on my grain bowls with flaked kale.

The lowest temperature I've ever had in an oven is 170°. Thankfully, I do have a dehydrator and have been running it on an off for weeks. So much easier than canning, and takes up less space than canning or freezing. I haven't tried leek chips, though--but I will soon.
