SPIRIT OF THE ANZACS LYRICS:
He's a drover drifting over Western plains
He's a city lad, a clark down Flinder's Lane
They're in the trenches at Lone Pine
And on the Flander's firing line
A willing band of ordinary menHe's all of them
He's one of us
Born beneath
The Southern Cross
Side by side
We say with pride
He is all of them
He is one of us
He's a pilot on a midnight bombing raid
He's an Able Seaman on the Armidale
She's a nurse in Vietnam
They're on patrol in Uruzgan
Sons and daughters rising to the call
She's all of them
She's one of us
Born beneath
The Southern Cross
Side by side
We say with pride
She is all of them
She is one of us
The spirit of the ANZACs
Proud and strong
Spirit of the ANZACs
Will live on and on and on
He's all of them
He's one of us
Born beneath
The Southern Cross
Side by side
We say with pride
He is all of them
She is all of them
They are one of usThey are one of us

Yamz_MG women still put their life on the line for their country, they saved countless lives and kept the war from ending up with more casualties, and saying they aren’t apart of ANZAC, is like NZ isn’t apart of ANZAC, which probably makes no sense, but it is all I could think of at the time. And, in say this, I’m not saying your disrespecting them, for you did say ‘they still deserve respect no doubt’, but female deaths were relatively quiet high during WW1/2 and Vietnam war, not just from the French resistance and those being executed, from the Germans, Japanese, Italians and the Vietnamese all attacked/bombed field hospitals killing medical staff or wounded. But if you do not agree with what I say that’s your opinion, have a nice day. (And try not to freeze to death)

Really? I always think of how many people those politicians killed by sending all those young men to a war that wasn't ours to be a part of. They still do it. An army friend of mine just committed suicide a couple of weeks ago. Patriotism is just not worth it.

I went to the Australian War Memorial in April this year, we couldn't find my ancestor who had died in WWII so I put my poppy I had in another soldier's place as I do not know whether that soldier has any family still living in Australia or at all. But going through that war memorial was a memorable time and I'll never ever forget it. My family also got to see the changing of the guard (in the rain) but coming out of the tomb of the unknown soldier my mother noticed that one of the two guards were crying, most likely because he thought of it as sad that this soldier's identity is still unknown to this day. But to every soldier in the army, air force and navy today, I thank you for everything you do to keep Australia safe

Although I don't have any ancestors of my own, I also went there as I was recognised in my school for contribution towards ANZAC affairs and I remember being told the same thing too about the unknown soldier. I thought it was an important symbol, since someone unrecognisable, represents more identity to the ANZACs than anyone with a face

I'm a born and bred American, with dear friends in both Australia and New Zealand, and this song twangs my heartstrings. My American family had soldiers serve in both World Wars and Vietnam (and likely the Revolutionary War and Korea). As a Vietnam veteran friend so succinctly said, "For those who fought for it, Freedom has a Flavor that the Protected will never know." God bless each and every soldier, sailor, nurse, etc., that went to war and didn't come home, or came home forever changed.

Techroach Everyone forgets that half the reason the ANZAC were sent was to rescue as many Armenians as possible. Churchill's spies had picked up some photos of the genocide secretly taken by a sympathetic German Doctor, and was hoping, if Gallipoli had been successful, that several regiments could then be spared from Russian support to evacuate survivors. Alas, they never really got that chance.

itachi uchiha Son, joining the army is a noble thing offering you a great career. But when the fighting needs to be fought, you are the one fighting and being shot at. The diggers in W.W.1. thought of war as an adventure. NONE OF THEM THOGHT IT WOULD BE SO HORRIFIC OR SCAREY. None of them set out to be heroes. In any of the wars we have fought in. It is the positions they found themselves in, and the way they handled themselves that made them heroes. If they could choose not to be in those positions, they would gladly NOT be heroes.

Maddy Falkiner To what extent were they motivated to fight by being told that it was their duty as "Christian gentlemen" to rescue Armenian Christians from "Mohameden Tyranny", which was, indeed, half of Churchill's reason for the offensive, not just supporting the Russians, which (although they couldn't have known) would have prevented most Communism over the past 100 years.

@@alialpseckiner8267 Because Turkey was on the side of Germany and Austro-Hungary in WW1 And then some idiot (Churchill) thought up a plan to open a 3rd front at Gallipoli, using the Australian and New Zealand troops that had not been committed to the Western front against Germany. Any element of surprise was lost when the navy shelled the peninsula a few days before the landing. Turkish forces held the cliffs overlooking the beaches and they were good soldiers with good weapons, what happened was predictable. Despite the heroics of the ANZAC troops there were massive casualties and they had to withdraw. What is impressive is not the mission or the outcome but the relentless bravery from the ordinary soldiers faced with an impossible task against a very competent enemy. As always someone at the top decides on a thing and ordinary people die. I hope that you and your family are well, Best of luck to you.

I’m watching this on ANZAC Day 2019 and I just want to say thank you to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the freedom of our country. If (and that’s a big IF) I have to serve for my country, I will. No doubt about it. I love my country (Australia). Always have and always will. I’d just like to recite The Ode if I may: They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow, They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest We Forget

These opening words of Keating are possibly his best speech. In 2017 I visited the Adelaide Cemetery where the Australian “Unknown Soldier “ lay for 75 years. The burial plaque provides this information. So if you are going to the Australian Memorial outside of VB take time to stand before this man’s original grave and say a prayer of thanks for the life he gave up. RIP!
