My husband and I spent 5 years at Ft. Bragg. He was in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a helicopter gunner. This was in 1972-1977. We left to go to Fight School. That turned out to be a good decision. He retired as a CW5. The 82nd was a great Division to be in. Very strict rules for the soldiers. They ran P.T. in boots and their uniforms. Shin splints was almost a daily occurrence from the boots, but boy did those boots shine. Spit shined boots where the toes and heels looked like mirrors. If it had been an early call in, to work, I would tell my husband to get some sleep and I would spit shine his boots for him. Starched uniforms were required. This was back when the army was strict and they made a man out of you. Back in those days, wives were an inconvenience. If the army had wanted you to have a wife they would have issued you one. Also Vietnam was still going strong. My husband went of course. No getting away from wars. God Bless the military for all they do and all the sacrifices they make to serve.❤

@@jodyporter6086 It may be that all the branches of service claimed it at one time, or another. LOL! We, the Army wives were always encouraged to watch out for our pilots and ease the strain on them, if any and not to antagonize them. We were made to feel like a part of the program and never excess baggage to hinder them. That was in 1964, when I first was able to go to Ft.Rucker to be with my husband with our baby girl. It was still that way after my husband returned from Vietnam, in 1965 and he was stationed at Ft. Wolters, TX. That was a long time ago and my husband, as a civilian, had a long career flying choppers over the Gulf of Mexico after we moved here. There are times that I miss those early days, when I remember the people we met and the places we lived. We've had a good life here, too. The soldiers were getting attacked and spit on when they returned from Vietnam and I think it was during the time mentioned above. I'm glad there is more respect for them today.❤

Restore family services. When you deploy, it helps to know your family has the support, recreation, activities, and safe, LIVEABLE housing on post. I'm a former spouse and family support has truly been cut since our times. I'm sorry those in today aren't enjoying the sense of community we shared. Soldiers can focus better on the mission when they aren't worried about their families.

I love this chorus, served in the 82nd ABN (75-78), and it was great to see my unit 1 Sqd/17 AirCav was represented. One of our medics was a member of the chorus. ALL THE WAY! AIRBORNE, Calvary Forward!
