Featured is game 1 from the 8-game match between Leela Knight Odds and Grandmaster Joel Benjamin that was held from January 25th, 2025 to January 27th, 2025. This game is a very clean defeat of Leela Knight Odds. It's mostly positional throughout with a sprinkle of calculation. Time controls are classical at 60 minutes with a 30-second increment. This is the first match ever where this specialized version of Leela Chess Zero with knight odds is competing against a Grandmaster in a classical time control. Joel Benjamin's peak FIDE rating is 2620, and he was official Grandmaster consultant hired by IBM in the Deep Blue vs Garry Kasparov match in 1997. A very interesting opponent for Leela! Benjamin narrowly won the match 4.5 to 3.5.
