Leflunomide or Arava for Rheumatoid Arthritis or Psoriatic Arthritis

I was on this for 8 months. I have sarcoidosis, sjorgrens and psoriatic arthritis. I only have one kidney, stage 4 non alcoholic liver disease and hypertension. This med caused my BP to go up, potassium to drop to extremely low and my kidney function to go from 42% to 34%. No one told me to use folic acid with it, and the blood draws were only ordered every six month. I was on hcq for 2 years with this. Now on nothing, but BP meds. Life is extremely hard with these diseases, and the rheumatologist said there was nothing else to try.

My rheumy has never head of taking folic acid with it. SMH

@@wackattack69 Methotrexate and Leflunomide are chemically very similar to the Folic acid molecule, which is vitally important for cell development. MTX and Leflunomide displaces Folic Acid uptake in the cells, so taking additional Folic Acid while taking Leflunomide/ MTX is a great benefit in reducing many of the unpleasant side effects.

Mam, i have consumed leflunomide tablet in June to August and after that discontinued, now we are planning for pregnancy is it harmful for me and baby. As recommended rheumatologist i have consumed cholestyramine three times 8mg for 6 days, please suggest on pregnancy.
