yesterday i found out the reason people shove the moment they shoot a shotgun is because it actually allows them to shoot slightly faster than if they didnt, its not much but its noticable

Placebo. Its a trick originated from Left 4 Dead 1, the reason people do it in Left 4 Dead 2 is for skeet shooting in order to deny an attack(Pounce or bash), in the event that 1 pump isn't enough. Regardless its a good practice as pumping the shotgun leaves you the most vulnerable so in some sense it's a safe practice provided you know when to space out shoves.

@@wutdio4353 it's not placebo lol. You had infinite stamina in lfd1. Shove canceling the pump animation actually is faster. The same idea works with the scout and awp.

@@benglennon7366 I should've been clearer. TLDR: It is Placebo. The animation cancel for shotguns came from Left 4 Dead 1 where you have infinite amount of shoves, both the have fix time values for pump and shove animation, and the shove taking priority in animation which happens to be faster than pumping the shotgun. In Left 4 Dead 2 the animation cancel was fixed wherein the shove animation does end faster than the pump animation, however another value will dictate whether or not the shotgun is ready to fire resulting to no improvement in speed. If you measure the time emptying shotgun using the "Shove-cancel" and just the normal pump you would have likely arrive marginally the same conclusion which is around 6 seconds for the pump shotgun and 7 seconds for the chrome shotgun, however this doesn't seem to be the case for one bolt-action while the scout performs around 13 seconds to empty, the AWP on the other hand has a near 2 second lead to the 16 seconds of normal fire of the AWP which is the only weapon that mechanically benefits to this technique. The reason pros and veterans alike still use it nowadays, is to deny pounces from special infected where you are most vulnerable... during an animation.
