Just a quick note: the English names for the weapon held by the lion on the Norwegian button depend on which representation is actually on the button. In the more modern version the lion holds an upswept ‘battle axe’ or ‘Norwegian axe’. In the older version the lion is shown holding a double spiked axe bladed pole arm known as a ‘ Halberd’ . The proper heraldic description would be something like ‘Lion Rampant Sinister ( = left facing), with Halberd’.

Well done to you and the team with the amazing finds, the one thing I do wonder about is the dog tag, was it just thrown in the pit or do you believe that you may have found another fallen soldier in or around those parts, will you be going back?. It truly ceases to amaze me how so many items are all within a few inches of the top soil, it is just an amazing part of history even though it is nearly 80+ years since. Stay safe guys and I cannot wait to see more from all of you x Lisa
@IronMikeMetaldetectingАй бұрын
Hi Lisa, the thing with German dogtags is that they were pre-made/pre-numbered and then handed out. The Germans have very strict privacy laws which prevents us from figuring out who this belonged to. This was a ‘trash pit’ so the former owner must have tossed it out because he was reassigned to another outfit or when the war was done. I’m afraid we’ll never know. Thanks for your comment, your kind words and for watching the video! Mikw

I Imagine the Entrance Area Would e A Good place to Metal Detect Because that is Where the Soldier’s Would Assemble or Be Waiting to Enter, Possibly dropping a lot of items over time! Thanks For a Great Program, Stay Safe & Happy Hunting!!! :-)

You have the dog tag. Was that the soldiers serial number on it? Is there anyway of finding out who it belonged to? That was and odd collection of artifacts, I wonder why some of them were there? The horn for one? Fighting a war is tough enough without carrying a horn around with you.
@hellomcflyyАй бұрын
what did you use on the license plate...looks like citric acid - try oxalic acid....it's way better..I've dug up completely brown rusted tins that have cleaned up sometimes pretty well
@JeRKIIАй бұрын
You guys had some amazing finds. Is there any value to any of it or is it only worth something to the finders ? Also went to Garrett's web site to look at the new detector $ and looked at the comments and pretty sure I read yours. You should do a video of the model as there are now 2 of that style and what you think of it ( the good and bad for you ). I noticed they are programmable

I wonder how the German soldiers wore their ID tags? Was it around the neck like US dog tags?
@IronMikeMetaldetecting16 күн бұрын
Yes, around their necks. The top of the tag has two holes the bottom of the tag one hole. We also found tags in leather pouches which they wore around their necks. Little bit more comfortable than having that cold metal on the chest
@Magic-Wrench16 күн бұрын
@@IronMikeMetaldetecting Thanks. They do look uncomfortable if neck worn. US dog tags were comfortable enough. I was so used to wearing my dog tags that I wore them for a couple years after I was discharged.

When did dog tags start being used? Did the Soviets use them?
@IronMikeMetaldetectingАй бұрын
german have been using them for a while, even before WW1. Soviets did have the little bakelite containers with a paper inside. But they ceased to hand those out after 1941. So many fallen soviet soldiers didnt receive a named grave
