I am passionate about whitewater kayaking, and also worked as a photographer on and off for a number of years. I have something like 10 GoPros and got rid of my Max, and picked up the X4. When using my X4 kayaking, I use teh clamp and stick attached to my stern grab handle on the kayak...awesome perspective. But, I'm liking the Unicorn helmet mount perspective you are depicting. Also, a couple of Pro tips when whitewater kayaking or other extreme sports...use a tether. Use a cage. The Inst360 stick is aluminum and weak at the base. It will break. I was running Royal Gorge a few weeks ago and the stick broke on a rapid called Wall Slammer. I had it tethered and in a cage without the lens guard. It was dragging under water and the cage had several "hit" marks from underwater rocks. It saved by camera and lens was scratch free. I ended up with some DIY mods on stick mounts and cage tethering.

you can use quick release adapter with cage, you simply attach the quick release plate to the bottom of the cages 1/4 20 mount.

Hi! Is there a benefit to mounting the camera sideways? I always thought its better for the lenses to point at the action.

The Stich line. Depends on activity. If something is moving up and down really close to the lens it looks better sideways. Less obvious when the object moves through the line. If I am chest mounting or mouth mounting I will do one lens forward.

I find that when i use my extensions stick i get a lot of micro jitters. Using anywhere that has music, the bass always makes it shake.

I find that in lower light auto white balance gets the jittery look. Try setting your white balance manually!
