I think that's an excellent idea! I'm a Carolina girl. I am from the NC mountains. I have lived in Asheville a couple of times, and in several other towns in the area. I was born about 45 minutes away, in Sylva. My heart is broken for our people, animals, and the beautiful land. So much help will be needed for many years to come. My family reunion is next weekend in Hendersonville, at my cousin's. He insisted on still having it. I can't go this year, but most of the family is going, and taking donations that they have gathered. My cousin says sleeping bags are needed. Kids need toys. I'm sure winter coats are also needed. I've heard that a lot of clothing has been sent, but it's a lot of overly worn things. If anyone feels so inclined, please help. Let's not forget those in Florida too. Thank you for bringing it up, and thinking of them.

You were missed, but know you had a wonderful time. I'm so glad you and Jesse took us to the bins. I've never seen them, don't think we have them here in NMB, SC. Love the things you found. After being flooded out by Matthew in 2017, my Church friend gave me clothes and shoes. Then I learned to shop at the Salvation Army, and then Goodwill. I added Church Rummage Sales, and continue to shop them all today although no longer in need. Looking forward to your next Friday sale. Blessings, Cat

Hi Laura. I’m a fellow “covers off” of books kind of person as well. When I was in high school, I worked in the public library as a page. I learned to appreciate the beauty of the bound book.
@catherinemcneill70452 сағат бұрын
I like the way Laura stacks them with pretty titles showing, but I tend to leave the covers on for protection and show them on a stand, like the one Laura found in a bin, as you would a piece of art. I change them out from time to time so as to enjoy a variety of artists work. Thanks for reminding me I worked in the town library as a preteen learning how to clean, repair, and catalog volumes. Can't believe I'd forgotten that. Cat

My best find was a brand new, still had the packing peanuts under the cushions, leather sofa from IKEA. I looked up the # and it was still sold there for 1495.00. I paid $5.00. they announced that all furniture that day was 5 bucks so I was just went to check it out. They probably had about 30 sofas and I spotted the one I wanted in the middle of them all. The poor guy had to move all the others around to get mine out. It's a deep chocolate brown. But I have found Gucci and Christian Dior there as well.

I too had a Lane cedar chest. It had faux bamboo trim and the surfaces looked like woven rattan. My home was flooded in 2021 and it was ruined. I looked every where to find one like it in order to value it for insurance to no avail.

Your Lane cedar chest is a blanket chest. Lane made blanket,hope and storage chests. It is from the 50s. If I’m correct the doors are faux but the bottom drawer functions. Originally it would hav had a flat front with a decorative pull on either side . Some Lane manufacturers did offer options if you wanted to pay to customize which could explain the trimmed beadboard on the front. If it was done by Lane the beadboard is cedar. That being said it could also be an addition that someone did themselves. I do know that the shape of yours is more rare because most people bought the longer low to the ground style for the foot of the bed or longer taller ones with legs for living rooms to set radios,tv or decor on. So they didn’t make as many in the style you have. It’s rare,it’s beautiful and a definite keeper. PS I have heard but can’t confirm that some of their customized pieces do not have a serial number. Does yours?
