I want to add to what the judo guest was saying. Definitely it was viewership that was driving the rules change. They did want to force the dynamic throws. The problem with judoka that were leg grabbers were in the points. Oft times leg grabs would get you a wazari and then the leg grabber would defend the rest of the match to win. That would stop a lot of the dynamic throws. Leg grabbing is much easier and efficient to get than a dynamic throw.

💥After they banned attacking legs in international Judo competition the nearly 7 ft tall Teddy Riner became completely Unstoppable whereas he proved himself quite beatable in the Years prior to the rule change losing nine matches in 5 years plus it's not ironic that Teddy resembles his Greco-Roman goat counterpart Mijan Lopez as both these athletes Trend radically taller than any Freestyle Wrestling (or pre leg ban judo) Champion because when you're really tall your legs are vulnerable in grappling... it doesn't matter if you train to counter it your still vulnerable Mike Tyson would have a good chance of beating Muhammad Ali in regular boxing but if you took out body punching he would be at a huge disadvantage

Good show! I vote for the reintroduction of leg grabs in Judo. My grandkids. Ippon Seoi Nage: My grandkids testing for their first Yellow belt rank in Judo. kzbin.infoQ6dKc2vAu2Q?feature=share

IJF Judo is unmarketable in the United States because nervous parents we'll have a heart attack the first time they see their kid thrown upside down and on to the mat versus the much safer and more gentle alternative BJJ plus those other countries identify Talent early in childhood and develop it over the course of decades... American Judo is so far behind the notion of us ever competing at an international level in my opinion nearly laughable under the highly specialized IJF rule set... with our athletes coming from wrestling and BJJ backgrounds no grabbing of the legs basically drops the curtains on USA judo, when they took away leg attacks they radically changed Judo forever and made it much more specialized... with the reintroduction of leg attacks we might see a few more Americans taking a shot at Judo gold but I suspect if it does happen it will be so specialized and restricted they still won't have a prayer on the tatami

Wrestling was on the Olympic chopping bloc as the advertisers didn't want to invest in sports totally dominated by Russians, Mongolians and Muslims because they were so much less marketable than the USA, Latin America, Western Europe and Elite Asia... now with higher levels of female participation and success (especially American females) wrestling has been declared safe for the next few Cycles. It went from a core sport to a "probationary sport" then they literally tried to cut it from the 2020 cycle... this terrified the traditional Judo Community who always feared wrestling infiltration as they were already seeing a fair amount and if wrestling was taken off the schedule Judo would be BESIEGED by wrestlers who would simply convert to Judo because in many of the poorest countries they were training these Sports side by side...just look at Khabib, like most young men in Dagestan he trained wrestling and Judo as his primary core. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaq3aomOmLmhl5Isi=R5TLWX4TjVzaCZAF

@@Howleebra Kabib was unstoppable. Definitely in the run to being the Goat if it wasn't for his early retirement.

Khabib is a judo black belt and sambo master of sport. He came from jacket sports. Judo is more widespread than wrestling. Even Khabib pointed out that twice as many countries participate in judo internationally than wrestling in reference to Henry Cejudo teasing Kayla Harrison for her judo gold medal. Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Middle East and east Asia regions are big players in judo, sambo and wrestling. As grappling arts have deep cultural value in those places. For instance Georgian Chidaoba predates judo by over 1000 years and very closely resembles judo (it with judo created sambo) and those guys dominate in judo, sambo and wrestling.

Judo is jacket wrestling. Countries with other similar jacket wrestling styles did well. This lie that’s spread that some wrestler who trained without a gi somehow switched over to judo and dominated is so hilariously untrue. Look up Rhadi fergusons loss in judo. D1 wrestler elite judoka who went for lots of leg grabs . Judoka countered him and he never medaled anywhere outside the USA. Leg grab attacks were low % scoring techniques . High level judoka weren’t getting stomped by freestyle or folkstyle guys. Most people outside of judo don’t understand how big of a difference a jacket makes if you’re wrestling . That’s why they think some hs wrestler would just steamroll top judo guys .
