@@mmongiello722 ABSOLUTELY. Standing throws are cinematic (and practical from a tactical standopoint). Sometimes I debate whether or not "Rolling" Throws (Rolling Seoi, Uchimata, etc.) should be awarded Ippon and not Wazari. Standing is best!

Shintaro competed heavier than Travis tho. I think they are about the same now since Travis stopped competing. For ref Shintaro competed in 100kg and Travis competed in half-middle (-81 KG)...Unless you're talking about how Travis is smaller 😆

@@m5a1stuart83 That is a normal thing for judokas to accept, just because of what happened to your friend, u shouldn't apply it to everybody, because no judoka or judo in itself was designed to take it easy on your opponent or play ball together, I also got my elbows fractured thrice,turf toes, broken fingers,blisters and all form of severe injuries, but I always healed and got stronger,even Travis doest take it easy during randori

I don't know which one I should say, is it impressive from Travis to hold his own against a 6th degree black belt complete grappler like Shintaro, or it's impressive from Shintaro to hold his own against a bigger stronger high level olympian medalist like Travis !

I believe Travis was awarded his 5th degree black belt so they're almost the same now in terms of belt level.

Also, Travis is a BJJ Black belt which he got in 18 months. Shintaro is still only a Brown belt. My point is that they are both amazing complete grapplers

You were taught wrong. Really important to teach right from the beginning to not be afraid of falls. The reason you are tense is because you are not confident in your ability to take a proper fall.

At my club this week I did a slow build up, using seoi nagi to ‘French Randori’ (sort of). Ended up progressing to one or two combinations after throw for throw, switching minimally resisting opponents. This was at a club I’ve just started training at and feels a lot less competitive, great way to give you a second to think and not continuously be on the defensive. Back to the competitive randori at the end of the week though. Great sesh on this video too.

To me, judo is more relevant to real life situation, and add in your striking skills (taekwondo) and you have comprehensive martial arts, in my opinion

@@kennethrogers1129 Judo banned leg grabs in 2010 and also shortened newaza time, so in order to train what most people think of as "Judo" we have to train wrestling, BJJ, and Judo. The 3 combined give what "Judo" was meant to be (a complete grappling style)

This was a very good demonstration of the difference between what could be considered traditional defence orientated judo in Shintaro and sport orientated judo in Travis. Shintaro seemed to use any of the walls and what not around him to better his position or save himself, whilst Travis seemed to care much more about the rules and had much higher stamina. All around a great video between two great judoka.

The way Travis plays with Higashi, but at the same time kind of bullies him at times is amazing; he's giving Higashi a chance to play his game against the bigger olympic champion, while at the same time not condescending his skills by going to easy and not showing off his own

Great video with awesome skills and attitudes on display. The most interesting thing to me is the focus on and intricacy of the grip fighting. It seems to be about 70% of the battle and only once it is won - for a fleeting moment - is a throw possible. For much of my time as a judo player (recreational level), the emphasis was the other way around. That made it hard in shiai where I'd often feel I had better judo (throws) than my opponent but couldn't get my grips. Interesting.

As a wrestler currently studying judo I'll just say it's all about manupilating momentum and what leg their weight is on. \Incorporate throw leverage (which wasn't allowed in the wrestling I did), and it's quite interesting. There is so much to learn.
