I actually liked the music for this. Made me think of an intense tutorial in a game or something. Also, I fall victim to leg shots a lot, so this video helps a lot.

Certain sabre and broadsword systems have you always keep the weight on the rear leg for this reason (plus to make the lunge more explosive). I remember reading a Swedish sabre manual translation where the instructor was to tell the recruits to stomp the front leg every now and then to make sure they're not leaning forward.

Love this Video, would love to see a series on attacks and defends on different target areas like hands & arms, legs (covered in this video) and horse, and lastly head.

In Rule 6 of Figueirdo's 16 Simple Rules of the Montante, Figueirdo says to use a false-edge revez to beat away the foe's montante and a true-edge talho to hit the leg. Could you say another method to get the leg is to remove the threat instead of the threatened place?

The Beastmen Warlord Of course! The general idea is you only want to strike for their legs when they're not in a position to simply strike you back. That statement seems obvious, but it's especially true for lower targets since they don't particularly cover you while you strike.

Big question in regards to footwork, is there any plan on producing a few more videos in regards to proper footwork? Its one of the more outstanding issues with depicting from those manuals and visual depictions we have access to.

No, the best way to do it is by doing the splits and then uppercut to the balls.

I have a question. Are there parries against leg shots? I know that avoiding the attack is preferable but what if the opposing blade is too long/too close to step out of range in time?
@BloodandIronHEMA

Although not preferred, they do exist yes. If you check our second video on Meyer's guards, the Barrier Guard could be used.

What about making a video focused on Thibault Rapier? :D

Maybe one day, but Thibault isn't exactly the most high-profile rapier style so we will probably taking some time before we get to highlighting it.

Just wondering because I do a lot of mixed weapon sparring, say I have a hand and a half sword and my opponent has a longer weapon such as a glaive or claymore, they have a big reach advantage and swing at my legs, what should I do?

How is leg shots favoring short fighters ? You already are loosing range when doing a leg shot, if you are small then you'll have to be even more closer, leading to easy counters don't you ?
@seanfranklin1591
@seanfranklin1591 7 жыл бұрын
The hard part about hitting the legs is lowering your body to a good position to hit them. The shorter fighter is already halfway there. :)

Alouest Not only this, shorter folk are more easily defended. Ox, for example, becomes highly favored for fighters under five six.
