See, if they'd marketed it as 'this is if Bulkhead were G1', I'd have been all for it. I don't even need it to look exactly like his Prime build... but the round vs. square issue is just dominating. It doesn't scratch the itch it said it was trying to scratch. It's just a good job that it found a completely different itch in need of scratching that it works well for. This is a case of 'mission accomplished. Not the one we were supposed to accomplish, but one that needed accomplishing anyway'.

It’s the marketing of PRIME Bulkhead that annoys me. Not angers but annoys. Besides that I think MMC’s Boulder did a better rendition of a G1-themed Bulkhead.

I mean, I was already sold (obviously), but that sold me even more. Bulk is like what Inferno or Grapple would be if they decided to take kicking ass as a carrier as opposed to putting out fires or building things.

I hope Mirage gets an episode soon. He feel WAY overdue to get one. He’s the only famous G1 Season Autobot character you HAVEN’T done yet. It also feels fitting since he seemingly isn’t scheduled to appear until Rise Of The Beast. I’m saying this as I remember the times you did an basics episode of a character only for that character to appear in some role like how you did Bug Bite just a couple weeks before he appeared in Cyberverse. He also feels like a special character since Mirage episodes is OFTEN about how trusted he can be or his loyalty. Same with the comics, most memorably when Ironhide accused him for being a traitor and beat him up. He also had one of the weirdest Spotlight issue. The funny thing is that many of Mirage’s appearances while they can sometimes be minor characters can be quite memorable like his Bayverse version that probably had some of the best or badass moments in the Bayverse movies. He’s also the only character to not reappear majorly because of the death of his voice actor while other just got written of.

One of my favorite things about this figure is that the alt-mode is pretty much a "modern" version of the Animated Bulkhead version. Like, in Animated, he turned into a military transport vehicle, just one that was made "fifty years in the future". This is just the "real-world" equivalent of that, and I really dig it. Especially since it fits with Bulk's "giant bruiser that can ABSOLUTELY wreck shop but is mostly designed to be helpful anyways" characterization.

@Joe Flood (sorry for the wall of text) to be fair this is more in the vein of G1 (where altmodes basically had the torso being an unmodified truck cab or car cabin to make it cheaper to make considering season 1 made use of imported toys (for example Soundwave his chest is literally his toy just expanded and flatter and wheeljack who is literally a lancia stratos in an airlines livery) though IF bulkhead were featured in G1 this design would be the best way to do it (more so If he had a darker green livery (like Hounds livery) with Prime I will be honest I always felt that their depiction of bulkhead didn’t do that much justice to his character if he was a military truck from the same era as G1 hound or a Early civilian version of the Hummer then justice would have been better served (he in my opinion looks “too soft” when really his character while being depicted as being gentle with Miko and the other humans (Minus Fowler) is still a rough going soldier and in my opinion could have easily (and should have in my opinion) visually been depicted as a larger more muscular (for want of a better term) robot and a heavier duty truck (like say an armored car but that might be better for ultra-magnus really) or first generation Hummer) (granted I am also one who would prefer to have bumblebee being depicted as a 1970s VW Golf painted as is)

I was expecting the wrecking ball to be the usual hollow on the bottom to fit over his fist... seeing that it is hinged to make a COMPLETE SPHERE makes this so much better. Giving him an optional shield as an.. sidegrade? Not really an upgrade... goes with him being the big tough guy with a gentle spark, now he can protect his mates too. He might not be a gun type of guy, but making it a shoulder minigun does work for that ranged option, because he doesn't have to give up the wrecking ball or shield to fire off a few rounds against the guys that decide to stay out of CLOBBERIN TIME range.

See, I am too, but I'd like it if they did it in the Generations style. Like, I'd love to see more non-G1 TV, IDW guys (Nautica and Rung were great. More please. Froid specifically), and totally original bots! Hell, I wouldn't even mind if we dragged out more Marvel UK guys like Hookline and Sinker! Or Action Masters like that Blue Wheeljack. Or really stupid people nobody remembers like Flame, Lightspeed and Gripper.

Not even just in the generations line, with the excuse of the movie anniversary, G1 also invaded Studio Series! And, in all of that, last year was also the Prime 10th anniversary and earlier the Animated anniversary... And what did we got? 2 prime re-releases and a "won't happen" from animated. Since 2015 it'all G1! How can it be nostalgia when it's always everywhere?

As a Prime fan... definitely, booting the show's designs and coming up with "something else" is kind of a punch in the gut from the "legacy" aspect. I can just imagine them re-doing Prime Megatron and making him another tank again, or some more jet-like jet, with a blocky G1-esque bot mode. Trashing all of what made his design badass in the show. I do like Bulkhead though, in that it is a pretty neat bot they did a favor by making Bulkhead.

One of the things I'm keen on with Legacy is that, so far, all of the figures are just pretty straight forward, no nonsense, super playable figures. No overly complicated masterpiece style transformations or intrusive gimmicks. Just nice little toys. I've been missing that quite a lot as of recent years.

Transformers Prime is the series that got me hook line and sinker into Transformers. I just adore that show/continuity family. It would sure be neat to see some of those designs in some really detailed and nice stuff... Maybe like some anime figure style 'detailed mold, super cool pose' figurine thing, rather than a toy, would serve their designs better? No idea if there's just a market for non-toy-but-beautiful-figure Transformers.

Furai Model, ThreeA, ThreeZero. There's a market. What I'd like to see is some (early) MPM style figures. Highly detailed and articulated with intricate transformations that get the Alt and robot modes looking as good as they can, without going full Alien Attack or Devil Saviour on the bullshit level.

I feel like that's too big of a niche for mainstream statues. In my experience anime fans and transformer collectors have rather small overlap. That said... Prime designs would make for some killer plastic garage kits- the type that's full of detail, but painting and building is up to you.

Honestly, I really like this figure as a new take on Bulkhead. It's got a great headsculpt, the appropriate chunkiness, and a solid alt mode. My only problem is that my Takara First Edition Bulkhead is my perfect Bulkhead and I already have him.

This figure is supposedly a pre-tool of Optimus Prime, and the Arcee is likely meant to be Flame War or Ransack. I agree completely on how they're treating Prime, let alone anything that's not G1/G2/Beast Wars. They're basically just like "If it's not G1, it's bad. We must appeal to ONLY Geewunners, literally no one else. If it's not in that continuity, we just give them scraps and hope they're pleased." Man, I miss Thrilling 30 so badly, it did a good job having figures from across the series' history (even if there weren't many) without slapping us in the face. Beast Wars Rattrap, Armada Starscream, WFC Skywarp, etc. This line feels like a big slap in the face to fans and it's all "We're talking about the legacy of G1. Now here's your Prime figures, shut up and sit down and consume product."

The way these things tend to go, I'd say we'll have to wait another 10 years or so before they start doing the Unicron Trilogy justice, and even longer for the later lines. Right now, the 90s kids are in a sweet spot for "nostalgic profitability". Just like 80s kids have been for the past decade.

There's that one Huffer and Pipes set that came out ages ago, but that's about it. The only other Animated love I've seen at all is an upcoming redeco of IronFactory's samurai Prowl to look like Animated samurai Prowl.

I don't know if this is a problem for others but even though I live in a decently sized city (by Canadian standards anyways), the in-store offerings for transformers is pitiful. Like they don't even get a full section to themselves even in actual toy stores. And they're generally stuffed with a dozen boxes of the same two figures.

I like that they made their own thing with this figure. It really cements the fact that the big green guy with the big lower jaw is Bulkhead and his name is not just a name to pass around. If there can be 50 versions of Optimus, why not 3 or 4 versions of Bulkhead? Great video

I think its really neat they've started adding new characters from other shows into G1 conntinuty it keeps things fresh and turns G1 into a concept that everyone becomes included in so it's less of "the figures for older fans" and more "the figures for fans"

Honestly, with how everyone is just begrudgingly accepting what they did to bulkhead and the fact they announced more UT remakes to come in the legacy line, I actually lost a good bit of hope for this toy line. Yeah, I love every continuity and series (except kiss players, screw that filth), but I'm sick of *everything* being G1 or "what if it was G1?". I want some unique designs like what Prime, Animated and the UT gave us. But, like the tease of the new Armada Prime they did, it'll probably never happen and we'll just get an G1 Starscream painted to look like the Armada one with a new head. Or something like that awful Armada Megs from TR. Definitely going to end up skipping a lot of figures from this line just like the last one.

Looking at it, I think they might have initially intended him to be a Recycling truck, but they changed it half way to a military truck by using a tarp texture for the cape/shield. Especially given the angles of the bed's cover.

I only figured this out a couple days ago, but there is a trick to untransforming Bulkhead's feet. There's a tab on the back of each leg's truck bed and a slot for it on the top of his heel. Push the foot all the way in then pull it down, it'll unfold itself.

Oof, I really felt that "unless it's G1 or G1 compatible," and this review nails that point so hard. Not my ideal take on how to do that with Bulky, but it's fine enough and at least he feels big. The Inferno mold kinda doesn't.

On a related note, Hasbro also wanted Ironhide to take Bulkhead's place on the team in season 4 in order to keep "brand synergy" with the movies. Ironically, for Prime they originally planned to use Ironhide, but his death in the movies had Hasbro demanding they use a different character, so Bulkhead got the last laugh.

The thing that disappoints me about the strict G1-ification of these new chug figures is that it removes a lot of qualities that would make the characters unique. Previous chug figures of characters that weren't originally from G1 still retained stylistic qualities of said characters. Like, Reveal the Shield Lugnut would look sooooo boring and run-of-the-mill if he was designed today. The designers would probably take out the three-fingered mitts, the wing arms, the hunch back, and the nasty shark mouth deco on the cockpit. Instead, they would probably make him look like a seeker with his cyclops head grafted on last-minute.

From what I've seen of your review, I'm kind of tempted to get Bulkhead. For both him and Arcee, I'll go in with the mentality of "They're different takes on these characters/designs."

I think the torso needed a few transformation steps to bring it lower and have some panel fold to become kind of bulkier, rounder.. idk. As is... He's more Movie Hound who as it were is like if Bulkhead and Kup did the fusion dance... But called himself Hound, for some reason.

Human from the future here, figure swapping has become a major issue with legacy boxes. Often you'll just find random ass robots in the wrong boxes. Its hilarious 😂

Legacy Bulkhead and Arcee were my fallback into Collecting Transformers Figures. I've recently gotten Takara Classics Prime Prowl, & Bumblebee, Generations Hound, Drift and Wheeljack. Bulkhead and Arcee feels so naturally standing next to early Universe co-bots. The aesthetics vibing so satisfyingly well with eachother. It makes me happy to be getting back into the collecting hobby. (Now I hunt for the best Ratchet.)

Neat to see that you found a way to get some Legacy figures early. Although has to do something about their products getting released to early in weirdly specific places. I’ve seen some Power Ranger figures from them that haven’t been properly announced yet get released outside of America somehow. That Bulkhead figure is looking really neat though. With the wrecking ball not being hollow at the bottom but actually wraps around the figure’s hand, to the canopy shield going inside-out to make it not look like he’s trying to shield himself with a piece of fabric. A part of me wished there were a bit more Animated references on him, as that’s the one I grew up with. But it’s still a neat one. The translucent weapons with him and the rest of the upcoming Legacy figures is still pretty weird looking though. Is that why Blaster’s pack-in cassette figure mostly translucent? I’ve also occasionally seen some online speculate that Bulkhead’s mold could get potentially retooled for other figures. So maybe that’s why it’s not feeling enough like Bulkhead for certain fans. And maybe that’s why the Prime inspired Legacy Arcee is looking really weird to most.

The concern about these boxes being more susceptible to shoplifting is funny to me, especially when it comes to working retail and being a merchandise team member who's all about remerching the collectibles. We've had more people come in and steal a good amount of the collectible Marvel superhero figures, because they're completely solid boxes that you can open up slyly and slip out the contents of, then put the empty box back on the shelf. For whatever reason, we've had someone coming over and stealing a bunch of figures of the marvel superhero Sentinel, doing the same process I described just then. The Transformers Legacy figures we get? Pretty much gone untouched, say for the stickyfingering we get from kids. If we've had stolen stock, it's from the boxed contents being taken, not just what's inside and the empty shell's left behind.

I kind of love the whole speech about the prime fans at the end, but damn, imagine being an animated fan seeing the anger, like what has animated ever gotten recognition for, what? Lockdown? Is that it? We haven't had lugnut in anything since animated, yet they made character look like lugnut but not actually related to lugnut, like why. An ark Omega Supreme didn't even edge it's way into a small reference for the last autobot toy. Safeguard is there yet no where in sight, copter Megatron would be bomb but no one cares, and even animated prowl, the most popular thing to come out of the show didn't even get a cheeky repaint from the normal prowl, like how the armada stars team (supposedly) inspired the red wing design.

I was confused by the Grapple, since I missed a new one coming out. I was looking at that and thinking I really forgot what RtS Grapple (or "Solar Storm Grappel") looked like. Legacy Bulkhead looks like a better execution of that general concept, although there's something about RtS Grapple that I'll always love.
