KJB vs Any Translation A simple test on how a translation treats the deity of Jesus Christ…. 1 Timothy 3:16 ESV- “Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.” KJV- “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. “ Notice the ESV and may I add NASB, NIV, New World Translation (JW’s Bible) Omitted “God” for “He”! “He” could be anyone , me, you, or anyone else! (Example: I was manifested in the flesh when I came into this world; I was vindicated in the spirit when I was born again; I am seen of angels then and now, etc) The King James Version specifically states that Jesus is God! Unfortunately, even among scholars, Yahweh is not truly asserted as the correct pronunciation of YHWH. The only name given among the Jews and Jewish literature consistently across history -- as far as we can find -- is Yehováh. Yahweh can even be shown to have emerged within scholarship as a candidate for the name's pronunciation from a Samaritan temple devoted to Jupiter. Gesenius, the scholar who popularized this theory of Yahweh, tells us in his writings that this is where he derived it from. I would much rather us stand with what Jewish literature has stated about the name of the God of Israel, over what Samaritans named their temple, which was named as a reference to Jupiter. This doesn't even touch upon what the names mean in Hebrew, and how they each relate to other Hebrew words or names (if at all). Yehováh may not be as accepted in the current tradition of scholarship, but the evidence is on its side, by far. And as I said in the beginning... the leading scholars on this subject don't even claim Yahweh is definitively the correct name. They just put it forth as their current leading theory (which ultimately goes back to Wilhelm Gesenius, and Jupiter).

I thought that the original authors used the word Adonai for LORD because they didn't want to use God's full name out of respect? Is that not true?
@sueregan2782
@sueregan2782 3 жыл бұрын
@@codyvandal2860 No. The original Hebrew gave “YHWH” as the given name of God, just as your given name is apparently Cody. The jews, especially after their Babylonian exile had a superstitious fear of mispronouncing God’s name, so when they came to YHWH in their reading of the Hebrew text they said “Adonai”, a more generic “Lord”, which is not a name at all, but a title which may be applied to anyone ruling over someone(s). To remind them what to say, the scribes started adding Adonai vowel points to YHWH, and this practice eventually resulted in people reading the combined letters as “Jehovah”. But God never changed either His Name or Scripture.
@codyvandal2860

@sueregan2782
@sueregan2782 3 жыл бұрын
@@codyvandal2860 No. God gave His personal name with expectation that he be acknowledged by name. Just look at the Psalms of David. He freely addressed God by name. So, respectful awe is warranted in using God’s name. But He commanded it be given to His people from generation to generation, and to be read in the reading of His Law. To become so afraid of condemnation in respectfully reading His word as written is superstition.
@codyvandal2860
@codyvandal2860 3 жыл бұрын
@@sueregan2782 Well reasoned. Even so "fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." I'm no Biblical scholar or theologian and you may well be right but terror at the prospect of offending God seems to be an entirely warranted emotion. It just feels flippant to me to call that superstition. I'd hesitate to characterize it that way.

I know a woman, humble and meek. She can't read too well. She never learned even in her home country. She knows Christ, and Him crucified. She knows sin. She is a Christian. She moves in love, the best way. She loves like a child. When she sings, people cry from the authenticity of her feeling and childlike innocence. I could call dozens of people to testify to her helps and love. She cares for seniors for a living. Widows. She has a gift of love. She doesn't know the Bible too well, but she loves the Lord and she knows what love is. That's my girl. She doesn't argue over translations. Christianity is not just for scholars. You have Greek. She has Love. I know the Bible well. I've read it 26 times in 3 years and 10 months. She's higher-up, without a doubt. Some people get crazy mileage out of John 3:16.

All three are Masoretic/Majority text Bibles. I spend a lot of time comparing verses between them to gain a clear understanding. I also use Young's Literal Translation, another great textus receptus Bible. This new Legacy Bible is a critical text Bible.

My disclaimers: First, I take no issue, whatsoever with a new translation and welcome it with open arms! Secondly, I have not read this translation, nor heard of it until this video. My comments: The 'challenge' I foresee is found within MacArthur's opening statements about this translation being completed in "only" a year, which is in fact "unheard of"; and secondly, his statement about this being done with "only one faculty", which is also "unheard of". Both of these conditions as presented here by MacArthur, in my opinion, cannot help but lend itself to theological biases (primarily Calvinism and premillennialism) that the readers should be made aware of in the preface, especially if a study bible version of this translation comes to be. Conclusion: Please note I am not waving a red flag about this translation any more than I would about any other. For example, I personally use the ESV study bible quite often even though I am not a Calvinist nor a premillennialist. It is a fantastic source for scholarly commentary and appreciate it very much. But one reason I do appreciate it is because of the forthrightness of the commentators to present all prominent views on the most difficult passages. Hopefully the LSB will do the same, if they haven't already. And if so, my apologies for anticipating otherwise.

I have been following Pastor MacArthur for some time, and I am curious about the current translation of the Bible coming out in the fall, The LSB,(Legacy Standard Bible). My question is this, during the translation prosses of the old Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic GOD's true name Yahweh is used. But I am curious for the new Testament as to why the true name of Christ was nut used, "Yeshua Hamashiach". It is Hebrew translated for "Jesus The Messiah". The English spelling of Yesua is Joshua”. However, when translated from Hebrew into Greek, in which the New Testament was written, the mane Yeshua becomes lEsous. The English spelling for lEsous is Jesus. Yeshua is a shortened version of the name Yehoshua (Yeh-HO-shoo-ah), whish means :Adonai Saves.” Mashiach is the Hebrew word for Messiah and means “Anointed one”. Why use the Greek translation instead of the Hebrew translation?

@Donnie Jax Well, I don't know if it's because they don't take the Bible seriously, it's just that not everyone can afford a $250 dictionary (Kittel's), and the word "draw" in English can mean many kinds of resistible "drawings." Because of that, many traditions have sprung up about how to understand this text, and then that understanding is projected onto other verses such as, "if I am lifted up, I will draw all unto myself." And so the error in one place creates errors elsewhere.

@Donnie Jax True. And not only that, but they look at the "all" in that verse, and they think that the indefinite pronoun "all" refers to "absolutely everyone without exception," rather than, "both Jews AND Gentiles." They do not realize that if the "all" in John 12:32 refers to "absolutely everyone without exception," then because of John 6:44, that Jesus will raise up ALL that are drawn to Him by the Father, then they have just become universalists... That has actually been a VERY big battle that I have been fighting lately.

Any reason why we're still calling it the book of James? With the desire for consistency in translation this one is maddening. The name is clearly Jacob, yet for some reason we are inconsistent and will translate the Greek as Jacob when referring to the Old Testament individual, but otherwise James if it has the Greek case endings. I realize this has been a historic name change in English, however, we miss the name connection of who the individual was clearly named after. I would've hoped that a translation pushing for original language accuracy would have finally done this. I guess we could say the same for Jesus and Joshua though, which would be a lot harder to correct. The New Testament usage of Old Testament references to Joshua is spelled identically to Jesus. Perhaps using Yeshua for both would be a good way of dealing with it.

The Apocrypha? It's a controversial topic. The books in it such as Sirach are good books to read for wisdom, but there was some controversy over whether they are meant to be considered Scripture. Jerome was unsure about it, but still included it since the Church at the time did include them in Readings. When the Reformation came, the Anglican Church took them out and put them in their own section, i.e. The Apocrypha, and declared that they were fit to read for wise living, they were not inspired. Protestant Bibiles still printed and translated them even though they did not hold them to be inspired like the other 66 books of the Bible, and in response to the Reformation, the Catholic Church affirmed the canonicity of the apocryphal books at the Council of Trent. Regarding Yeshua to Jesus, It's a long process that took time, but basically Yeshua became "Iesous" in the Greek manuscripts (adding an 's' at the end for nominative masculine name, "sh" to "s"), and this became "Iesus" in Latin and Iesus translating into English produced Jesus, by the "i" becoming a "J" in about the 1500's, and you then have "Jesus".

Well I am glad because once the NSB20 revealed it was a liberal leaning translation, having a church primary translation being a NASB would be a problem. The LSB is going to attempt to stay the same and not undergo changes. Honestly that is why the NASB hasn't been my primary because of the 20'. The LSB takes the best of the NASB and makes it more steadfast. I am going to have to get used to Yahweh being used and slave, but that is small.

@@lonniesatterfield1770 Yeah.... dude.... if you knew the history behind The English Translation of The Bible you wouldn't have made that statement. THE only Bible in existence that was translated from the original Greek and Hebrew Manuscripts was first published in 1537; it's called The Matthew's Bible. However there were "New Testament" translations already written in English from John Wycliff and others, but these were translated from the Latin Vulgate. On the other hand.... William Tyndale (who was a master of 8 different languages; i.e. reading, writing, and even speaking), Myles Coverdale, and John Rogers risked life and limb to publish what is called today as The Matthew's Bible. This is literally the only Bible in existence originally taken from the original manuscripts. By the by... the next best translation is The King James Version, but still again a computer readout was done, and The King James Bible is only 85% accurate to the Matthew's Bible. Again.... The Matthew's Bible was taken completely from the original manuscripts of Greek and Hebrew. Old English is pretty hard to read, but I loved the English language enough to learn the old spelling, pronunciations, etc. I can tell you this.... people who keep making new "translations" are very pretentious and very foolish. They've added THEIR points of view as to what THEY THINK is written translating from other English Translations. Think of a CD being ripped to a computer. Once that copy has been made something is lost.... sometimes the audio isn't as crisp. Sometimes even songs might get either muffled in some areas, or for some reason a few songs don't show up at all depending on the program one is using, or perhaps a mistake can happen in the "ripping" process. Now let's take that process one step further and plug an MP3 player into a computer and download that same compilation. A REAL audiophile can spot the differences all over the place, and some like myself can even tell the process of which the music came from. The same is true for scripture. The same is true for people who know the history, the SOURCE of the material, and although there are many people like yourself who make such bold claims to something they barely have an understanding of to begin with, it becomes apparent that it's easier to make pot shots at something in our own ignorance because our feeling of superiority is more important than the knowledge of the SOURCE material in itself. This can also be said of racism, bigotry, and yes even intolerance to the point of mockery and violence towards a particular subject matter. You see.... if Atheists were NOT a hate group towards Christians, then why behave in the same manner as a Racist or a Bigot? I've said this over and over again.... it's the accusers in the end that wind up behaving or doing the very thing they accuse others of in this hypocritical system our society here in America is leaning towards. I don't know what country you reside in, but that hypocrisy is ringing loud and clear here in America. The very people who cast out accusations like a fishing line into the water with a little 'bobber' attached to it don't catch and release when they bring in something they don't want. Whether it's garbage or it's a good fish The Atheist community just reels in whatever and dump it into their boats like it's a prize. The problem is.... garbage is still garbage, and although one man's garbage is another man's treasure, The Atheist community has decided that garbage is more pliant and fun to create an accusation for the sole purpose of attack without even knowing it's garbage in the first place. The worst part is.... sometimes The Atheist Community does know it's garbage, but they find some way to give a status of treasure within themselves. A few years ago my sister who is an Atheist and I got into a very ridiculous argument about an actress named Gina Carano. The accusation was that Mrs. Carano had made an Anti-Semetic statement, and in actuality she hadn't. You know what's interesting? My sister didn't even KNOW what Mrs. Carano's statement was, and yet she was driving it into the ground that Mrs. Carano said an Anti-Semetic remark. So I said to her.... look it up. It must be all over the internet. My God..... it took her almost 10 minutes to find what Mrs. Carano had actually even said. Now the accusations were spread all over the internet like Cancer, yet WHAT MRS. CARANO SAID was very hard for my sister to find. Do you know what happened? My sister found that indeed Mrs. Carano didn't make an Anti-Semitic remark at all, but rather Mrs. Carano had made a comparison of the beginning of The Nazi regime and their tactics when at first they were called The German Workers Party,. Now an educated man or woman on the matter would know The Brown Coats were rioting in the streets, spreading rumors, attacking citizens and even attacking people of policing authority. Mrs. Carano had made the point that The Atheist Community/Liberals was likewise behaving in this manner with the riots and the attacks and stealing from businesses and destroying mom and pop shops claiming they hated Big Business. It didn't make any sense in the time of The German Worker Party, and it doesn't make any sense now. Mrs. Carano simply made that comparison and it had nothing to do with Anti-Semitism at all. My sister.... an Atheist... went from Gina Carano is an Anti-Semite to "Yeah... because we're seeing concentration camps all over America right now." What she said made no sense whatsoever to the conversation, or even to what Mrs. Carano was stating. This is a commonality with The Atheist community..... "Even if we're wrong, we'll twist it and make sure we come out on top to feel superior." Dude that is absolutely psychotic. By the By.... I don't know if you're an Atheist or not, but you're statement SEEMS to be OF an Atheist. I'm not claiming you are, but I'm not claiming you aren't, either. I don't know you. We've never met.
