In order to perpetuate the legacy, the Society preserves Legacy Videos on the Recipients. These include over 125 oral histories and in-depth, dynamic videos on Recipients. Western MARYLANDER here! I often visit Antietam Battlefield Sharpsburg MD. What many people do not know is that 8 women , dressed as soldiers fought at that battle , the single bloodiest battle of the Civil War . 7 fought for the UNION , two as young as 15 years of age. A dead CONFEDERATE woman was found on the Cornfield by a Massachusetts Burial party. September 17, 1862! Every December 23,000 Luminary bags are placed on the battlefield to remember the fallen . History we were never taught!

She wore a white blouse, floppy straw hat, and the pants with a major's stripe on the battlefield. It wasn't just her long hair that helped identify her as a woman. Also, treating the wounded where they fell during battle constituted "conspicuous gallantry" in every sense.

I agree with her. An amendment should not have been necessary for the right to vote. Being a citizen is enough.
