Do you sew over the zipper? Great video!!! I wanna try this just a little smaller
@legacybrandleather3 жыл бұрын
Yes I did, more so to keep the zipper from risk of pulling apart, which shouldn't happen with this type of zipper but I have seen happen before. I hope yours turns out great and would love to see it. Tag me on Instagram if you end up making one!

Nice job! Where did you get your self healing cutting board from, Do you like it? Does it land scratches on your leather from the cuts on the board or the board stays smooth?
@legacybrandleather3 жыл бұрын
I got this self healing cutting mat from Amazon due to it's size and price. I've had it for about... 4 or 5 years or so, and no I don't see a transfer of the mat cuts to the leather surfaces. Although after about 4-5 years I think it's time to replace it as multiple cutting will reduce the structural integrity and it's tending to buckle upwards from the surface underneath a bit. Hope this helps! -Ted

I’ve always wanted a good comprehensive video on making one of these! Great video

Whew! Thanks! I was flying by the seat of my pants for a bit there since I didn't want to just follow a cookie cutter pattern, but I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Glad you enjoyed it 😊

Great video! Looks like I really need one of those French Edgers! I've downloaded your pattern called Making a Leather Money Bag (or Dopp Kit) I'm assuming this is the right pattern? This will be a gift, so wish me luck!
@legacybrandleather2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The French Edger is a fantastic tool when you don't have something like a bell skiver machine, haha. I use my edger all the time! The Leather Money Bag is a different project, however similar and can be scaled up if you want it larger. I don't have an available pattern for the actual Dopp Kit I did for this specific video, just the loose instructions. Good luck!

What kind of glue do you use? And what type of adhesive tape are you using ? Thank you in advance
@legacybrandleather4 жыл бұрын
I'm using Ecoweld, a water based contact adhesive that can be found at Tandy Leather. The adhesive tape is Tanner's Bond Permanent Adhesive tape, which comes in a few widths, I believe mine was 3/8" (10mm) wide. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi. Just wondering, how can you make sure that the zipper teeth would align?

where did you get the leather?
@legacybrandleather3 жыл бұрын
This English Tan Dublin is made by Horween Leather. Usually you have to purchase a large order, so try going to their subsidiary The Tannery Row where you can purchase smaller quantities: www.thetanneryrow.com

Why not use an industrial sewing machine instead?
@legacybrandleather3 жыл бұрын
If I had one, I would use one! Unfortunately, I had to get rid of my old sewing machine a while back when I moved. That would have made this a quick project, that's for sure. Cheers, -Ted

@@legacybrandleather I actually have been looking for a tutorial of creating a dopp kit without a sewing machine! I actually think not using any machinery makes it much more accessible to the broader audience. Cheers!
