Anything over an inch would be a dart point or a spear or knife. Anything bigger would be to heavy for an arrow head. You would have to aim at the sky to hit a target just a short distance away. The point you thought might have a fire pop was a fossil or crystal pocket in the material. The points that were translucent looked like agate or corral. Great finds.

Most of those “arrowheads” are spearheads😉. Maybe for use with an atlatl? Great vid.
@blackriverfossils5 ай бұрын
i agree with that but I'm not knowledgeable enough to know the difference yet. i did hear someone at the dig mention "atlatl point". thanks for watching and for your comment!

@blackriverfossils My father and i found some indigenous tools from australia. They are completely different to your findings. Grinding stones and axe heads. One of my axeheads looks like a fossilised lung. I picked it up because it looked like it had been attached to an aorta.. Many years later, I discovered it had been used as a tool. Have you ever seen fascinating underground city of opals? Coober Pedy! (pronounced cooba pee-dy)
@blackriverfossils5 ай бұрын
@@ralsharp6013 congratulations on your finds they sound very interesting. I have heard of Coober Pedy and the beautiful opals from there. We watch a show called Outback Opal Hunters and they often show hunters and stones from that location. Beautiful stuff! Many years ago I traded some shark teeth for some boulder opal from Australia and it is gorgeous. It looks way better in person than it does on TV.

You and Diva have so much fun. Great finds, love it. Do you ever wonder how long you would’ve survived if you lived in those times? You would only have the knowledge of that time in history.
@blackriverfossils5 ай бұрын
We do have fun and I have thought about surviving back then. I would not have made it very long because I am extremely near sighted. I couldn’t have seen anything to be able to hunt so I would have starved. Times were hard back then!

I think if you messaged the guy from bone valley fossil farms that you could go on a slow day and film a video to promote the place then he would let you go in for free. That way you could stop by there while you are in florida
@blackriverfossils5 ай бұрын
if he invited us we would do that on one of our trips. i follow them in instagram. the teeth there have beautiful colors

What separates a legal from an illegal hunt?

legal artifact hunts are on private land with permission. anything else is illegal in florida

Here in the backwoods of Indiana to dig is a FELONY, unless your an Archeologists. But when they dig it's to preserve history although most artifacts will NEVER BE SEEN. AND WHO KNOWS IF THEY SELL OFF ARTIFACTS DUG FROM OTHER PEOPLES PROPERTY.
@blackriverfossils5 ай бұрын
its a felony to dig on public land in FL too, that's why the private property angle is so necessary. You can't even pick them up legally in a river there. I like the way South Carolina does it - anything goes on private property just like in FL, but in rivers its legal to collect them as long as you have hobby diver license from the state and you report the find. Indiana sounds pretty harsh as far as artifacts go - If you dug for artifacts on your own property there, is that still a felony?
@alanbrooke32375 ай бұрын
@@blackriverfossils No, here it is if you are digging to find/ aquire Indian artifacts it's a FELONY regardless if it's your property or someone else's property that has given you permission.
