I really love the relationship between Elle and Emmet in the musical as opposed to the movie because the romantic aspect of it seems more natural while in the movie he just feels like a mentor figure and not a possible romantic interest

Fun fact: my dad was friends with Christian borle in high school when he lived in Pittsburgh! They were doubles tennis partners! My dad didn’t realize Christian was famous until he saw him on an eBay commercial on tv years later.

You probably already know this now Mike but for those of you who do not the people singing when they Change holiday are Elles Greek chorus. They are Elles friends from UCLA. But, they are in her head cheering her on in her mind as she goes to Harvard. They are called the Delta Nu when not in her head.

yay, glad you liked it! I love both the film and musical, but I'm biased towards the musical cause I've been in it before and it was a great experience!! also FUN FACT: the actor that played Professor Callahan (at 11:01) originated the role of Marvin in Falsettos! so 12:30 is kind of like having two Marvins on stage at the same time lol

Another fun fact: In 2003 both actors were in a stage production of 'Elegies: a song cycle' which was also written by Wiliiam Finn (The co-author of Falsettos) and is a series on songs written by Finn largely in response to 9/11

Future Mike probably knows this already, but Elle is truly smart. She was just applying it poorly. She went to Harvard Law in pursuit of Warner, not a legal career. Giving her classes 💯 was immaterial to her goal. She just had to do well enough to stick around. That changes, originally to prove a point to him, but then more importantly to herself. This story is Elle's journey about stepping into her power & choosing her future.

Present Mike does indeed know that. I loved her development, especially with Emmitt. Part of me wants to watch the movie, but I find it hard to believe it'll be anywhere near as good as the musical.

@@behindthecurvereacts I love them both; this is a movie to musical show that actually works, because the film is a bit over the top too, so the energy is there. Certain plot points work better in each version imho, but I may be somewhat biased from knowing the movie first. Either way, the musical is awesome & I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 💗

@@Okay_Is_Wonderful yes absolutely!! theyre both amazing on their own!! i can only recommend watching both because they have slightly different focus points. the songs are all so fun and you could honestly get the story just from them. the movie is somewhat more focused on going from "here for my boy" to "law is my calling" with a few scenes that didnt go into the musical, while the musical expanded on other characters. like the movie scene where she slapped that guy (shes being nice its fine lol) vs viviennes story arc (both good but in different ways, tho i prefer musical vivienne a bit)

Legally Blonde as a show is a pretty lighthearted comedy. Elle is an airhead, but it's almost by choice. Like she's a bit ignorant and naïve but it's because she can be and enjoys it. Her attending law school was to chase after Warren so she was uninvested in the work outside of the barest of minimums. The shame she feels after being bullied by her fellow classmates and that montage of Emmet's help are what turn her around into that more lawyer-y attitude and she starts working to basically flex on Warren that she can be smart if she wants, while subconsciously still trying to impress him. The Greek Chorus, as they're called, I think serve as breathing moments for the audience a lot and give us a view into Elle's mind in moments where she can't express it exactly and give her female backing in her bigger songs. I think their use in this song is that the length of the song and with how many scenes it envelops and just how plot heavy it is, so much character development and time passage, I think it gets a bit hard to stay focussed as an audience member. The transitions give the audience a breathing moment to just process what they've seen while visual nonsense takes up a bit of time. The ending, they're taking Elle's mind a bit, she can only be so reactive in the moment, so the girls give us more of the freakout that she's experiencing.

So, I watched the movie again after seeing this musical (a bit obsessively, there are some really fun high school productions of it out there). Christian Borle's character (played by Luke Wilson in the film) isn't as pushy in the movie. He's does all the supportive stuff, but he doesn't tell Elle to clean up her desk or anything like that. I don't remember Elle almost flunking out, just being embarrassed and socially snubbed in the beginning of the term. What quickly happens is that Elle starts to use her social skills to help out other students and build her own support network among the more awkward, outcast students, and that pays off later on. Also, the musical combines the mean male professor with a different (female) professor, who scolds Elle for being unprepared. This female professor shows up again to encourage Elle later on when she's at a low point.

If you like Christian Borle, then you should check out some stuff from Something Rotten. He plays Shakespeare. I think the Tony award performance is on KZbin, andi happen to know there is a full performance floating around.

Movie Elle is truly smart she wasn't taking it seriously and actually giving it her all. The musical stays true to the movie while changing some stuff around. Like where in the movie at the party elle comes to the conclusion that even though her and Warner got into the same law school and take the same classes Warner still thinks she not smart or serious and she not good enough so that pushes her to prove those around her and herself that she can do it and does this all this by herself. While in the musical Emmett tells her and helps her out
@tastetherainbow179
@tastetherainbow179 Жыл бұрын
I hold the opinion that Elle is unbelievably smart.The problem is is that she never applied herself. She was constantly getting kicked out of class and her grades were suffering because she didn't study or prepare for class. So it isn't that Elle's stupid until Emmett comes along. What it is is that until Emmett, no one encouraged her to apply herself or recognized her intelligence or to even have hopes and dreams that don't involve being a trophy wife.
@HeyItsSarah30

Ok sooo A. YOU SHOULD TOTALLY WATCH THIS (if you haven’t already) B. In the movie Elle is actually naturally smart, however she views herself as just a dumb pretty blonde sorority girl. She thinks that that is all there is to her. She doesn’t find out there is more to her until she gets to Harvard. At first she is flunking out of her classes and stuff and not taking it seriously but after Warner & his new gf vivienne embarrass her at a Halloween party it motivates her to buckle down and start taking things seriously so he doesn’t think she is just another dumb blonde. (Spoiler she does actually get with Emmett (christian’s character) in the movie & musical at the end!) C. The singing girls were Elle’s Greek chorus. They appear in most of the songs throughout the musical and only Elle can see them bc they’re apart of her imagination hehe

Sorry for commenting twice but if you like Christian Borle I have something you need to watch. It is called Peter and the Star Catcher. It is a prequel to Peter Pan. It is so good. It has two full length songs so I would not exactly call it a musical but, it is amazing none the less. Christian plays Black Stache aka captain Hock and it is amazing. I did this show a few years ago and I played Smee and it was one of my favorite shows to be apart of. If you have not seen this already I highly recommend it.

I know you've already watched the full musical, but the reason I personally think Legally Blonde is one of Christian Borle's best performances is that throughout the show, he is constantly doing small things - facial expressions, where he looks, etc. - that show and progress his character. If you focus on him in scenes where he is not the center of attention, especially after Chip On Your Shoulder, you can pretty much spot the exact moment that he *SPOILERS* falls in love/deeper in love with Elle. Also, it's difficult to see, but during Gay Or European? he lifts up his suit jacket to show off his ass in order to trick the witness into telling the truth (though there's rumors that there was an unrecorded show where he did the bend and snap). For this show, it is one that would be more difficult to upload in its entirety as it does have lengthy bits of dialogue between songs. I think the best way to do it would be to split it up by song the best you can, and if there's a larger chunk of dialogue between 2 songs, upload the dialogue separately, or maybe even split it up by scene if the dialogue spans multiple scenes without a song.

Annabelle getting together with Christian moral I don't know how the musical in because I haven't seen it but I will point out that this movie was like in the 90s or the early 2000s and heteronormativity is a Fang and the idea of women not needing men was not really thought of a lot during that time so it's going to end the way you think. But the musical might not do that cuz I actually kind of agree with you sorry if that's spoilers for a movie that's been out since I was a tiny baby child
