Critics kind of bitched about this musical but I think my favorite part about it is it plays out so naturally. Every part of the show seems correct, right and natural. None of the songs feel like interludes or unnecessary at all--they are all necessary, plot progressing, and blend seamlessly with the show's progress. It's like watching a movie.

Vivienne knows what it's like having to work twice as hard for something because she's a woman, especially something as usually men-centered as law. She knows just how crushed Elle must be. And then the fact that she goes to her and brings her back... I love it.

Vivienne is the type of girl who initially starts disliking Elle because of her femininity (and also because Elle is Warner's ex lol). It's more clear in the movie but Vivienne is extremely aware of how hard it is to be taken seriously as a woman, and she doesn't seem to like the idea of Elle being a walking stereotype of a bimbo. She doesn't like that Elle 'proves their point' and is living 'justification' for misogyny. It's very accurate of attitudes in the 2000s which was very centered around proving women can be "more than a woman". People tried to push for "girlboss" and forced masculinity to prove we could be "better" than a girly girl. She opens up to Elle when she sees Elle's growth because she doesn't actually hate femininity, she only hates incapability, and feminine people aren't necessarily incapable. But this is a relatively new change to her thinking. Since (in the movie) she only sees the SA and doesn't see how Elle freaks out, her relatively new and unstable character development is crushed by yet another piece of 'evidence' that Elle is proving the stereotype she works so hard to escape as a woman. Although the way the musical handled it was more bright and fun and empowering, which works better for a musical imo, I also like that the movie stayed true to Vivienne's core values.

Can we all just talk about how much better Warren is written in this musical? It is a bit more subtle in the movie but everything Warren does is not because he wants to but because his parents want to. He didn’t want to break up with Elle but his parents made him, he didn’t want to go to law school but his parents had already planned his whole life for him. How much yall wanna bet his parents were the ones that got that whole “you have to live like the kennedys/ and jackie vs marylin” idea his head. I love that Elle and him parted on good terms in the musical and I think she was a major influence for him in leaving behind the idea of what he was expected to do to pursue what he truly wanted, just like she did. It really warmed my heart to see this change, it just goes to show again how awesome Elle is and how good of a role model she is. This is a great musical!

Yes you're right; he doesn't come off as an idiot. Plus he has an older brother who was making a big name for himself and leaving big shoes to fill. Warner must have felt a lot of pressure at times. But, he made his own leap of faith at the end...and making more money! So his parents can't be that upset with him! But kudos to the actor who made him more relatable.

Yesss finally someone talks about how they humanized Warner here. He's still not the best person and has many mysogynistic moments, but he truly did come around at the end and recognized Elle's talents despite doubting her the whole musicaland parts ways with her on good terms. Even attended her and Vivienne's graduation. And he found his calling at the end, despite what his family expected of him. In a way he's the reverse Elle, someone who everyone thought would have a future in utilizing their good looks but became a respected lawyer, Warner ditched being a lawyer and senator to a more simple yet perfectly valid job modelling. He's no Emmett, but he's not that bad.

Some of the more subtle things in this show/story I love: -Elle WOODS & Emmet FOREST -Elle and Emmet’s handshake is a combination Dleta Nu snaps and a swig of Red Bull -“Here You’ll Become What You’re Supposed to Be” uses notes from “So Much Better” in the background, signifying how this is a turning point for Emmet like So Much Better was a turning point for Elle. -When confronting Dewy, Elle has a moment of pause while reciting the law that allowed them to take back Rufus. She’s trying to recall the information she’s learned in class. -“What’s up... doc?” is such a sneaky little joke that flew over my head in my first viewing. -“Even if you keep going and going and going,” is a reference to an Energizer advertising slogan. -Elle’s ringtone is the Delta Nu theme. -When Elle does the bend and snap for her legal team, Callahan stares in the background for a moment and emmet rests his chin on his arm and stares. Warner more obviously stares, but you can catch a short moment where Vivianne has to snap him out of his trance. -Right before the big scene where Callahan forces himself on Elle, he sends Warner off to get a coffee for him, which was originally something he would’ve had Emmet do originally. Emmet and Warner gradually swap roles for Callahan as interns and is the first indication Warner is falling behind in practicing law. -Emmet is about to confess his love to Elle toward the beginning of Legally Blonde, but Elle unintentionally cuts him off with “Callahan hit on me.” -When Elle enters the court room and they’re telling the judge a law student can represent a client, the judge is about to speak but Callahan cuts her off. Great hint of hubris there. -When Warner proposes to Vivianne, her first line about the ring is spoken rather flatly, then she hesitates and looks around at all the people watching before answering yes.

From sniffing her resume and grinning, to going to kiss her but end up hugging her instead (the time signature above). Vivian really started to turn her character around starting from the time Elle won her case against Warner. She supported Elle in Gay or european by stating that if she was right, it would be a huge asset. Also, when Warner was making fun of Elle, she told him to shut up. This is a plain case of her gaining respect for Elle and I live for it.

I’m personally not a huge fan of her in this musical. Her singing sounds a bit off but i appreciate that she has to skip whilst belting notes. This is also the only show I’ve seen her in, so I’m not judging her as an actress, i just don’t like her that much in this specific performance.
