Legend Alternate Ending

This ending sort of disappoints me. They talk on and on, and get so sentimental with one another, and then they just go back off in their own little worlds again. Practically nothing changes, they don't learn anything, and Lily passes the whole thing off as a nightmare. In the other, it's so pure and sweet, just like their youthful selves. They just run off together, with hardly any words needing to be said at all.

I just don't know how I feel about this ending. I go back and forth in my mind. Jack...the man of the forest. Living away from society. Lilly... the high lady of the kingdom, destined to live a life at the center of society. How could it ever truly work out between them? How would their young love survive the ultimate reality? This ending is more bitter sweet, but also far more sad then the US theatrical ending where it's implied they run off and get married. It's mature but leaves me low.

I know that the original ending of them riding into the sun might be kinda corny, but it works... And I fell in love with Tangerine Dream because of this movie. That song MADE the end absolutely amazing, just no reason to change that.

I have to disagree. The Tangerine Dreams song "loved by the sun" still haunts my childhood dreams and I love its originality. It doesnt sound like any other OST. While I agree Jerry Goldsmith's score is lovely, I feel it would have been more fitting in another movie. Between the 2 scores the mood changes dramatically!

always loved this film ,i remember as a child it was on bbc 2 every couple of years .and i would force my mum to watch it with me,and it was on much longer than the dvd cut i've just brought ahhh the golden days

Legend Of Zelda was based off some of the material from this movie, or so the creator has said. It would make sense.

just watched the theatrical version last night, and I so like this ending of yours much better.....makes more sense than the movie ending, to my mind. I must look out for a copy of the directors cut.....obviously has some wicked extras.

@amberlynn11221 The ending here is a (rather amateur) custom edit I did in 2006, combining elements from the director's cut and the US theatrical version. So you won't find *this* ending on any DVD release, sorry!

Wouw.. the song in this movie is sooo beautiful!! I always loved this movie sooo much.. when I was a kid.. I was afraid of the creepy darkness-guy haha :P And always have to cry when the unicorn died and became happy when they stood up again at the end! :D

If you ask me Riddley Scott should remake the movie. I think he can get away with making a new cause first off he didn't kill off the goblins: Pox, Blix, and Blunder they just disappeared except for Blunder. I would love to watch this movies sequel with more battles and more special affect with CG or something for more magic. Spread the word so that Riddley can think of the Idea. Although its obvious that the original cast can't be again.

I just watched Legend Director's cut and I thought it was just awful. You are truly right. The movie seems like a non-animated disney movie. The other version is much better; I can't believe movie professionals would actually think the Director's cut is superior.

Good effort, but I wouldn't have Legend any other way than the original. Tangerine Dream more fully expresses the mood of the film. I'll take them over any orchestra anyday.

at half of the movie when robert has his flashback of his family being picked up by the chopper, his son says by to him by to him by shaping a butterfly with his hands through the glass windows of the chopper. rather interesting.

What happened to tangerine dream? I went to see this film when it was first released. The music was by tangerine dream (and Brian Ferry). I saw legend a few months ago on DVD and the music was orchestral.

Qu'est-ce que de la musique pop stridente viendrait faire là ? Je sais pas, j'ai connu la version Française, et quand j'ai entendu Loved by the sun pour la première fois, je ne savais même pas que c'était la musique du film, tellement elle est décalée ! De toutes façon, elle a été intégrée à la version américaine... pour plaire aux américains, ça veut tout dire... ça devait être dans "l'aire du temps", à cette époque, la pop.

Wish it could have been both endings combined. Both unicorns come back to life when Lily wakes and the horn is replaced. They don't run off together but do as this alternate ending did. They may marry later. Wonder if it could be made into a fun book?

this ending was not a good one. i'm glad they didnt go with it. it changes the whole relationship they had to just friends. More like siblings than anything else. that sux. i liked the other ending. it made it seem they had a more intimate relationship. more than friendship love.

I doubt it I'm afraid. It's a good film for it's time, but has dated a LOT and is only really good because of the effort that went into creating the world - the dialogue and plot aren't that great and the characters are one-dimensional. I think most of the major fans of the film like it for nostalgic reasons. Tom Cruise has done better films...Interview with a Vampire is incredible. Tropic Thunder he played well, Collateral, Vanilla Sky, Minority Report, A Few Good men etc
