Sounds familiar, doesn't it? There was going to be a Night on Bald Mountain film before it was taken out of production. Maybe the movie plot you envisioned would've had a Night on Bald Mountain theme?

Soooo, I first saw this movie as a young child in the US, I did not know how to read at that time. Had they subtitled the whole thing, the target audience, young kids, would not have understood this awesome film.

Well...They're not EXACTLY the same... In the Disney film, Jafar's name has one "f;" in the Korda film, Jaffar's has two. In Disney, Abu is a monkey; in Korda, he's a young man whom Jaffar transforms into a dog. In Disney, Aladdin is a beggar who becomes a prince; in Korda, Ahmad is a prince who becomes a beggar. But when you hear Neil Ross describing the Disney film and see scenes from the Korda, the resemblances become blatantly obvious.

Not sure on why "bossen" was translated as "the Bosun", I'd just have it translated as "the boss", plain and simple". And the "Nordic" language is actually Norwegian.

That's because they're not saying "bossen," they're saying "båsen," which means the bosun, or boatswain. :)

I'm back and thinking that it would be a boon and a blessing and a dam' good time if someone in Hollywood would put R Duvall and T L Jones and D Lane and A Huston and C Cooper and R Schroeder into a new film, hopefully a period piece where I and so many more could dive like a snake-eatin' hog into the purely joyful experience of seeing all of 'em together again. Ay God, THAT WOULD BE A PARTY. Doesn't hurt to dream.....

wow! How did you do this!? Not a single clip from the film and yet the images you used so strongly invoke memories of the film. Absolutely beautiful, haunting, and most tear-inducing thing I've seen. The visuals work so well with....oh forget it, I seriously need to watch this again as I still have to process this beautiful piece of work. For those who've read my posts, you know I'm never at a loss for words.....except now. Thanks for making me all blubber my Thursday morning away!

+Tommy Petersen I've watched this thing a hundred times, and I'm bleary-eyed right now : so human and powerful, and I'm glad you appreciate it. I associate it closely, too, with the Lord of the Rings saga, especially when the Elves leave the World of Man; and then it loops back, in my mind, to LD when they're viewing the ravaged buffalo herds on the plains, killed wholesale, for tongues or hides or just the hell of it.

+iamintheburg Yeah, for me it brings images of Woodrow sitting with an Indian blanket watching some small band of Indians do some sort of dance, all the while he's got Gus's body in the wagon; just heartbreaking poignant. People forget that this movie totally rejuvenated TOMMY Lee's career. Such a great, great movie.....no it's a film. You're Lord Of The Rings connection is bang on as well.

I prefer subtitles too dubbing just feels so fake. I thought the boy in the film Shipwrecked was at first a talented English speaker (most Norwegian kids I have met in their teens are) but he sounds very American and there is that wooden feel to it.
@leifgunnartoth8070
@leifgunnartoth8070 8 жыл бұрын
+mattbod Shipwrecked is not a traditional dubbed version. It's a recreated version where the actors spoke english. Most norwegians tend to sound more american than british, due to the amount of american movies being watched. I am a norwegian, and my english is more american than british. I've seen the film Håkon Håkonsen since I was a child, and it's been one of my favourite films ever. I didn't know about the english version until today. Man I was shocked :P hahahaha

No kidding right?! This is such a loving tribute to one of ( if not the greatest) westerns ever made, I don't care that it was made for TV, it's just that good. If yu can find a copy, check out the cd "Of Love and Hope", the original soundtrack of BATB, featuring the poetry reading by Ron Pearlman. it is so beautiful and provides a lot of inspiration for video's. If i knew how to make them, i'd be doing them nonstop.

I think so, too; especially in consideration of the faithfulness of the film to the written novel : I cannot compare any novel-to-film adaptation to this sincere and thorough and ennobling movie : the visuals and the persons applied to the novel's character's made a Pulitzer Prize winner, I swear, into more than Larry McMurtry had written. And you can play Mr. Polidorus' soundtrack at my funeral and my soul will soar. The best movie ever.
