"98 Hours Later" And this comes out before The Outer Worlds, which comes out before Luigi's Mansion 3, which comes out before Death Stranding. I foresee quite a few busy weeks in gaming as well as a rise in complaints about lack of time. I was going to pick up this one regardless of localization since I've been here since Trails in the Sky FC so I'm in for the long haul, but it's good to know this isn't Lacrimosa of Dana 2: Electric Boogaloo. And this was a great review as always! I eagerly await your Ryza one.

I'm speechless with Cold Steel 3. I finished it last night and must say this is the best entertainment experience I've had in my entire life, from a narrative and its execution perspective. This game is a masterpiece and I'll definetlt buy the PS5 update when it's released because there's so much going on at the same time during the ending, that inevitably there are some small loading times with every scene jump, so it would be great to experience this ending without any loading time. Once I ended Cold Steel 3 I felt the need to start Cold Steel 4 inmediately in order to see what came next, and I managed to play the entire prologue of it and what I saw is amazing... I mean, WOOOOW... the masterminds at Nihon Falcom are genious! Every person that enjoys reading a great story, discover new complex fantasy worlds and get to know and care for great characters, must play this games... they're the best there is in the entire enrertainmet industry (books, movies, series, etc)... but in order to better understand and enjoy Cold Steel 3 and 4, it's necesary to play the prevous 2 archs of the franchise (Liberl and Crossbell)... but don't worry about it, because even if those games are RPG classics, they're still amazing masterpieces that will surprise you... for instance, up until last night, Trails In the Sky SC was my favorite game of all time, and that's the second game of the entire franchise, surpassing games such as The Witcher 3 GOTY edition (which I love), Persona 5 Royal, etc... I can't imagine what Trails in The Sky SC would be like with a Remake of the level of Cold Steel 3&4, while preserving its escense intact (I have to say this because of what SQUARE did with its bastard child named FFVII Remake, which is disgraceful). Cold Steel 3 is a freaking masterpiece! And yiu shoukd play it with the voices in Japanese to experience the origibal concept of its ceeators because the english dubbing is missed completely the spirit of the characters and delivers something different from tve original idea. Thabk you, Nihon Falcom.

i only have one little gripe with these games. with the huge battles taking place all over, nobody ever dies. i feel like having some deaths like you would expect from these massive battles would add some realism and make it more dramatic. and when they try to fake you out with fake deaths, it becomes completely predictable because they do it so many times. spoilers: when they blow up prince olivert's ship, pretty much everyone who played knew those 3 weren't really dead. same with when they try to make you think george shot and killed angellica, nobody fell for any of it. i think it would have been far more dramatic and interesting if they actually had died in thoss instances. it's just a little too "everyone lives happily ever after" for my liking. even crow, who we watched die. i kinda did fall for that one but after showing him alive again i never believed anyone else was dead after that, and i was right.

Thanks a lot! I do go over the entry level barriers in a bit more detail on my other video, so I’m hoping people take the time to watch that. However, given that Falcom is saying they’ve got another couple of decades of Trails being made allegedly, I felt I needed to address that problem in this video somehow. As more connected games come out, onboarding new fans would become more difficult due to the enormous amount of time they’d have to invest. Imagine that - I’ll be 60 by the time the series is over! At any rate, thank you for your kind words! I was hoping to capture why people love the series to begin with and I’m glad you thought that I’d done that!

Honestly, the introduction of the new class VII and shafting of the old was more due to the writers having issues taking them anywhere else without a time jump or some sort of crutch, what with the bonding events and all, writing for so many characters is hard. As much as I like the new class VII CS didnt need that many new characters, it really hurts the experience in CS IV when everyone gets together. Not only that there is simply too many characters, but plot wise and logically the new class VII are still fish out of water, they cant and shouldnt compare to the rest of the heroes we got to know from previous arcs. Dont delete this btw, these are not spoilers cmon :D That being said I do like the review and agree with majority of it, aside for Rean being endearing :D But he is certainly better then in CS I. Crossbell is for the player like is own city because we played two games entierely in it you know every little npc in Crossbell better than those in the other game and you understand better why characters act like that. I think that I prefered played CS3 with only the crossbell arc than only CS1&2 but both are important. The only series that you can skip is Trails in the Sky even if it's still a necessity for better enjoyment. And it's even worse in CS4. I know why you explain it like that but it's not a gift for new player to do so..
@BacklogBattle3 жыл бұрын
Haar I would have to disagree. I actually played through this series with my wife, who has never played through any of Crossbell nor Sky and the events that affected Crossbell were not lost on her by not playing the previous games. I get that playing Crossbell and Sky gives a lot more emotional engagement with the events mentioned. However, it does not detract from the experience. If anything, it is additive to the experience.

@@BacklogBattle You have no problem without computer when you never have one, but then it's impossible to not use it. For me it's meaningless. I start the serie with the first Cold Steel and don't like it because I have this feeling that I've missed a lot of things (+ too much infodump) and then dropped it. Few years later I do all the serie in the release order. And in CS3 the world the is references everywhere but not only references. The whole affect of the player too. You speak about your wife, she was touched by the Crossbell events. But Crossbell wasn't her country and the SSS building wasn't her house. Every single Juna reaction from a comment by a random npc is incredible and Juna is the player. She is proud of her city, frustrated when Altina said than Heimdall was bigger after she said that there is 500000 habitants in Crossbell. etc.. And you are proud with her because this is by far the most developped city from the serie. You just can't compare the chapter 2 experience with someone who havent played Zero&Ao. I understand saying that it's possible to play CS3 even tho, but saying that's it's almost normal is a problem for me. It's advise against, it's at your own risk and it's a choice you need to do, but not the good option if you can do otherwise. If I've done what you said, I will have blame myself and not just a little because It's an big problem for me. I know it's probably not a problem for everybody but in my eyes it's more important to save people from the dissapointment than help people. Sorry I'm pretty bad in english (as a french guy) so I don't really know how to explain it. But for me Avoid frustration of ten people > Being helpful for twenty people. Then it's only my viewpoint, but I know the chapter 2 is my favorite of the game because of my love for the city and the SSS even if it's still good without it. Juna's monologue is the voice of all crossbelians and that's why I'm happy to discorvered this video after I've played those games. Still a good video tho, but I'm really not agree with your points.

Haar and I absolutely respect your opinions! This is always a debatable topic in the community. However, I think depending on how you approach the series, the opinions will differ. I’m of the mind that there’s no real true answer. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t talk about it!

@@BacklogBattle I dunno the Trails community because almost anybody know those games in France haha. But I understand why, I stand to prefere the "optimal" experience. Tho I understand people who say that you can start with Cold Steel and not Trails in the Sky (even if I dropped when I did it) but there is so much old content/fan service in CS3&4 and elements based on previous game. I'm still a little bit disturb by the war against north ambria between CS2&3 so if we add Liberl war + Liberl Characters (including Loewe, the third anguis etc..) + The Crossbell Tree + Crossbell Characters + cs1&2 events&characters, all the explanations for the others country. It's a bit much. You miss a big part, even more in CS4 with returning characters like KeA, Renne (what a past), Cecile etc.. and it's still good to see some old minor characters like Lucie (from 3rd, the girl with Lechter at school). I respect you opinion too, and I know you respect mine, but I still don't understand even if I respect it haha.

Could be the games way of showing how much you've all "grown" and how "powerful" they are. The new class 7 is just as strong as the old class 7 was when they first started, if not MORE. But that's just my interpretation of why it's easier. That and you can be so OP late game even on a first playthrough. Some bosses don't feel so "HP Spongey" as previous Cold Steel games, but that could just be me. Break system, Orders, really good equipment from maxing out certain relationships. Ultimately I thought it was easier than the previous two Cold Steel games. But more fun this time around. I had fun making Rean a CP machine, usually only ever attacking at 200 CP. Does less difficult mean less fun? Sometimes. However this game is made to make the player OP lol. They encourage it. This is all my opinion though.

shadow13azul I don’t think it does either. However, there is such a thing as an unwieldy story, and with the devs saying that the Trails series will continue for another decade or two, I really can’t imagine recommending people to start with Sky and play through decades’ worth of games in the series! At that point, it’s better to encourage people to take a dip on one game, which will let them decide whether they should go back and play older games or the newer ones. If I can encourage players to jump in with either CS1 or CS3, I’ll be a happy camper!

I have to say: I know the game will have some little issues here and there. It's over a million of dialogs for them to convert, Nisa's pretty new at this, but I love their initiative to bring the original dub for us as well. I love to play/watch stuff on their original language because sometimes it feels more organic to me. More natural. I'm not saying the English dub in Cold Steel is bad, but if we compare it with triple-A games, it's lacking. And I'm a pretty annoying player, I LOVE to have more options: For example - Zelda: Breath of the Wild has a marvelous dub in English. SO GOOD that I thought it was only released in English even in Japan. Then I discovered that the game HAS a Japanese dub, since it's a Japanese game, and it made me really sad that I don't have a way to play the original dub of the game. So, if I get annoyed to not be able to play something on the original audio in a ridiculous well-done game, with amazingly well cast voice actors, why I would be happy when XSEED says they have "copyright issues" with the original voice on the games and only bring them when Nisa's announces the game would have the option to switch the voice acting? Actually, it works so damn well, that you can change that on the fly. I wish that my PC, a machine far more sophisticated than my PS4 could do that with Cold Steel I and II without making me reboot the game all the time. Then again, I'm not saying that the English dub here is bad, hell, I don't like the English dub on Persona 5 either, and a lot of people like it. It's just the amount of money that was given and the direction the people who give their voices here have to take when they need to dub those characters. Oh how much I hate Alissa's voice on the two first games of Cold Steel. So I'm really happy to be able to switch the voice acting at any time without needing to wait for a PC port to mess with the files and change the voices or, wait for a half baked "official" solution of the two first games on Steam. XD I know I will love this game so much, and even the little problems here and there I know Nisa will fix because they don't want to fuck it up. Not with this series.

It took me a while to read what you posted and wanted to both take the time to intake what you said and, at the same time, thank you for taking the time to post this! I personally believe in accessibility in all shapes and sizes. That means being able to play the game in a variety of ways, whether it’s as close to the original source, or providing the ability to play for the disabled. It’s also why my videos have closed captioning. That said, I was very happy to hear that they finally had dual audio for the game. Now, I did hear a rumor that XSEED didn’t have the budget to pay for the JP voice actor royalties, hence why the first two didn’t have it, but better late than ever is what I’d say! Again, thank you for your comment and I hope you enjoy the game when it comes out next week!
