In Avatar the Last Airbender, Aang had to acquire the power to defeat the villain. In Legend of Korra, she starts off fully trained and has to learn how and when to use power in a world where shooting elemental blasts at the bad guy doesn't magically fix all the problems.
@elin1112 жыл бұрын
Unlike Aang who magically gets the most Deus Ex Machina power ever at the 11th hour solving every problem in an instant and removing all nuance out of the conflict by creating a solve-everything button that he masters in less than 3 seconds?
@Nemo124172 жыл бұрын
@@elin111 You're not wrong, but the "problem" in question (to kill Ozai or not) only became a problem at the very end. Up to then, they'd dealt with plenty of villains without executing them in cold blood (and, I'd like to add, Katara was able to bloodlessly capture Azula without having four elements + the Avatar State).

It is very subtle and not really acknowledged but Tenzin wearing the modern flight suit rather than sticking with the old gliders was such a great showcase of his character development. Tenzing willingly adapting modern more practical technology into his airbending instead of stubbornly keeping the old ways because they're traditional

honestly, it makes me sad that aang didn't teach all his children about his air nomad roots. I think it would've been so cute if bumi still got some teaching of his air nation heritage. kaya could have also been taught some water bending as well. I just think that seems a little more in character for aang. like aang established the air nomads. they were non benders and it genuinely made aang happy to share his culture with someone. he didn't like it at first but accepted it.

We do hear of aang trying to teach his other kids airbening culture, Kya says "oh you know I could never keep all those old monks straight" and both Kya and Bumi mention old airbender stories that Aang used to tell them when they were trying to remember where they heard about Guru Lahima, indicating Aang did at least _try_ to tach them, it just didn't click

@Alina_Schmidt3 жыл бұрын
0:45 Being a fascist and a Nazi metaphor doesn‘t put you in the middle of authoritarian right and left. It makes Kuvira extremely right wing. This isn‘t even a nuance thing, it‘s damn obvious. It is by far the biggest flaw that so different political ideologies were all portrayed quite similarily: „Okay I agree with a few parts of your ideas but this is going too far.“ All while not knowing what the ideologies really are and thus overtly villanize communism and anarchism while portraying a fascist as someone to just build empathy for.

I would argue the creators did understand the ideologies. They created a narrative that showed how each ideology(communism, colonization and industrialization, anarchism, and fascism), is good in small parts, but too much will suffocate you. Take Amon as an example. He wanted equality for all, but his methods of using terror, violence, and deceit weren't great. However, he did get some good done. Or Kuvira. Kuvira wanted to reestablish stability, but she took her ideology to far, by putting any dissidents in concentration camps. The main message of the creators were all of these ideologies are good in small doses. We can look at socialism as an example. Socialism is good in doses, such as universal healthcare, public education, etc. But, we've seen what happens on a large scale. In the same way, Anarchy or Libertarianism is good to a degree, but when it is complete anarchy, complete chaos ensues. Basically, the message is moderation.
@marisokami52593 жыл бұрын
i would like people to know something they messed up about zaheer big time because it would've made him far more interesting as a character, anarchism IS a real political philosophy, it shares plenty of roots with communism but where some communist people cling to a strong state to bring on the revolution that will stop capitalist exploitation, anarchy rejects any unjust hierarchy, which most anarchists agree that representative democracy as the world knows now does not meet the requirements to be justified and direct democracy is preferable. the writers of the show did NOT read or look into any REAL anarchist philosphy, or leftist philosphy for that matter since amon has far more in commno with cold war propaganda about what communism is that what it really was. making the villains of korra a bizarre mix between left and right that no real person could ever believe. real anarchists do not want chaos, you know that symbol of the A in a circle? it's actually an o, it stands for order and refrences a french anarchist saying that people seek freedom and society will seek order by removing unjust power structures, that's what the word means. if they understood that it would've been so much more interesting because if they included fictional versions of anarchist texts instead of zaheer obsessing over a little necklace, there are plenty of avatar characters who would write a text like that.
