You know, I worked on this film (music). I watched these scenes hundreds of times and yet, you blew my mind. I knew the artists were super talented, but these breakdowns really show how much thought goes into planning these things. Great vid!

It goes the other way too! In my part time gigs I spend many hours animating shots that have no music and only dialogue, and it's mindblowing how much the final score transforms the whole project.

I was wondering if you were going to mention the tapestry then you pulled up one of the shots I worked on! The whole intro tapestry is so well done I could make a talk just about it, haha. There's so many tiny details in what elements are moving, in what direction, and how fast. Not to mention the wonderful layout/comp for each section of the scroll.

I'd never heard of the Legend of Pipi, so when I saw the trailer, I immediately thought that you were reviewing the recent Pixar short, Kitbull. The designs for the MCs are very, very similar.

For an interesting exception to the rule of right to left progression, I noticed many anime ops, feature the characters going on a journey running to the left. Dennou Coil has an opening that features multiple characters all running to the left, that one may be intentional though, as the series itself concerns internet bleeding into reality, and has great mastery of making its shots eerie and off kilter

now there's an interesting thought. I'll double check but in The Last Unicorn, the unicorn runs to the left during the montage "walking man's road"

Yep, that's an example of a left leading montage. It's also a depressing one; the unicorn goes from up on high to down as well. Not sure if this was intentional choice of the artists or if it's just coincidence that a sad montage goes left. (Going down is definitely on purpose.)
