Thank you for making these videos. Saw the book at a local game shop but wanted to do more digging before dropping the money. Definitely going to get it now. You've made it sound like a lot of fun between the two videos.

I’ve been playing 4th edition for over a decade now. I played 5th in prerelease beta and don’t like the game rules it it’s nice to see FF is keeping the flavor of the game alive and well

This is the same for me. I just kind of thought it was because myself and another member of my ttrpg group were on the playtest team for 4th edition and played the AEG card game for years. It is easy when you have that kind of connection to a previous version of a game to notice the flaws in other editions, but excuse the ones in your preferred.

Awesome video. I really feel like this system needs more attention

Pick up a copy of the rules if you're interested. My local game store told me LOT5R will not be continued for much longer since the lay offs at FF. I'm not sure how reliable that news is, but better to be warned than be sorry.

I second this, I'd be surprised if they got through whatever they plan to do after Writ of The Wilds. Though they did shift the property to Edge Studios, so who knows at this point. But they ended the LCG, so I wouldn't expect much more support for 5e after they release the D&D conversion/supplement.

This game seems super legit. Some friends and I do a podcast where we gameplay test TTRPG's and this next season (7) we are doing the Legend of the Five Rings 5E. This is a great intro to the game. Our podcast is The Roll Playing Guys if you are interested. Hopefully we are able to capture the heart of the game as a more social interactions game instead of just a combat centered game.

Really nice review, clear and concise. I did notice though that you used a picture of Scorpion armor when describing the dragon clan which is too bad, but not a big deal! Nice work!

I agree, best intro to L5R I've seen out there so far, no 'umms', 'but whatever's and 'anyways'. Well planned and thought out. Thank you!

I was a beta tester for the AEG first edition the story is about 75% the same the feel is the same, but other then roll and keep system and advantages and disadvantages nothing is the same mechanically but I love both.

The social structure is really interesting. It seems like a what if scenario if Japan had a large land mass like china, due to how many people of what'd be like shogun status there is.

Yeah the setting really is fascinating. And this is just the macro level. Each of the individual clans, Major and Minor, are also interesting in and of themselves. Each Major Clan consists of several families, each with their own beliefs, duties, and traditions that add to the overall culture of the clan. They also sometimes cause internal tension as differences of opinion results in competing voices of influence on clan policies. A good example of this is the Crane Clan's warior family, the Daidoji, who are extremely pragmatic about combat and the priest family, the Ashigawa, who are outright pacifists who specialize in healing and medicine. Minor Clans all have tales of how they came to be since founding one requires a great deed that earns the Emperor's favor to found. Minor Clans then tend to have to really specialize due to a lack of resources to diversify. Then they have to deal with being small fish in a large lake. It's legitimately interesting stuff.

Thank you for putting this up! I am more inclined toward the rich lore of this game and have little next to no knowledge about the mechanics of the game until I've watched this video. Somehow the cacophony of information I've picked up is organized into a coherent presentation of the game's mechanics, though I am aware this is still trivial compared to what I have to learn more to have a decent grasp of the entirety of the game.

The Amazon reviews on it will do it justice. I read it cover to cover and would highly recommend it. Use a highlighter and write notes in it. Make a mess of that book, you won't regret it. www.amazon.com/History-Japan-R-H-Mason/dp/080482097X
