I love how this anime used no japanese related material to attach itself to the viewer. The authenticity was fantastic and the culture on every side was great too. This is one of the greatest anime or story ever told and is a testament to the potential anime has. At first the animation got to me, but that was blown away and it made me feel that something old made things feel fresher and new to me. I look forward to finding other titles from this time and see what other stories iv been missing out on. By far one of my favorites, this show gets surprisingly gory and the battles have no fear of taking away millions of lives in only a few days of fighting. I give it a 9-10 just because i believe no show can be perfect....or was it? :)

Actually they do move in 3d . It was desribed in the novel in the fleet arrangement before or during battle. For some reason, the anime never mentioned that.

How many are able to act promptly and precisely under the heavy and inhumane pressure of a war: a moment that if you mistake, you'll be most likely dead? And those issues apply to most of the generals and politicians too. I'm not implying that the show was perfect, although it is my favorite anime, but i don't think of what you mentioned as a flaw.

The sound selection for this anime is much bigger than just 25 minutes. The complete box has well around 700 compositions. And what a fine selection it is.

Wolfen443 I saw the first BluRay collection for an upshot of four hundred bucks, and chances are that version isn't even subbed. The DVD versions I have are oooold and fansubbed by people who clearly had no idea what they're doing, so you have to pause constantly to try and decipher them. One error in particular that seems disgustingly consistent is them mistaking 'ships' with 'fleets', so you'd have people talking about ship numbers and saying 'Blah blah blah 20,000 FLEETS'.... I mean, for the first dozen or so episodes that particular error isn't there, and then boom, consistent for the next fifty or so. They also keep mistaking 'Kaiser' for 'King', even though that's... just wrong.

I like all the old German names. They have such nice meanings. (Did they copy them from Wagner's Reingold?) Siegfried (victory/ peace), Reinhard (pure heart), Hildegard (battle, protection), Annerose (grace, rose).

yeah most of the german names (given and family) are very well chosen, suitable for the characters and for the basis of the anime on the old german empires but there are also some funny ones like Kircheis (church ice), Schenkopp/Schönkopf (beautiful head) or Vier (four) (I hope my english isn't too bad)

buecherwurmin never realized that by schenkopp they mean Schönkopf *lol* the more I watch this anime, the more I recognize how fitting the names actually are. [spoiler warning] e.g. Hildegard did protect Reinhard in battle in a way and Siegfried, even in death, does inspire the Kaiser to win and often to be a just ruler and make peace with his enemies. damn, this anime is soooo good. (it even made my cry once and movies never make me cry)

buecherwurmin Those are all real German surnames. There are quite a lot of people in Germany with a name like Kircheis. The name is derived from Kirsch and has nothing to do with Kirche as in Church.

I like this series because the female characters are so essential to the story despite being so few, Hildegard not only saves Reinhard but gives him victory in the war as well by suggesting attacking directly the undefended Free Planets Alliance Capital Planet.

The reboot can't use the original soundtracks used by the OVA because of copyright issues. Hence why the show wasn't released in the west until just recently.

Since Mahler and Mozart were the copyright holders of the musics in this series, and both have died for more than 70 years ago, I think their music should be public domain by now which means the remake can use them freely just like the OVA

Hey guys! I just had one question someone might know the answer. I've been watching the series online in a pretty High resolution, but I've notice that throughout the series, specially in the first and even more in the second season, there are a lot of "newly" animated sequences, like.... with new looks animated as 2000's style. Does anyone know why they recreated these scenes? I was pretty pissed off, since I saw in a crappier quality the original scenes and those were gorgeous! The new ones just suck ass. The digital colors, everything... sucked ass. I think it might be because they must have lost the original footage and were forced to reanimate it to get it to fit HD quality. I just can't concieve that they LOST the original footage of *INSERT VERY IMPORTANT CHARACTER" death!!! (the one that got shot by the ring, you know wich one... tried not to spoil). How in the name of god they lost such an important scene. The original one is uploaded in youtube and even though is a poor quality, the artstyle is beautiful. And also, why didn't they try to recreate the animation style more faithfully? a shame really

It's probably too late but because it's an ova it was not animated chronology in terms of episode or scenes so the style switched around

as a new viewer that watched the old and this new version back to back. The old is better but at the same time I can't say the new stuff doesn't thrill me because I liked the old one so much. Its a shame this wasn't redone earlier. It could've gotten way more traction. Better late than never i guess. in 2000's-2010 this remaster would've made rounds and did way better. Wouldn't be so much focus on graphics.
