Legendary Armor in Dauntless is Kinda Terrible

TheMrRant returns for an exciting episode of staring at escalation boss armor pieces and saying why most of them are terrible.

I recently was making a hammer build and I noticed all of these sometimes have good armor pieces, but most of it like you said is Aetherhunter and only Aetherhunter. At the end of the day I was able to find a combo without any Legendary armor and I'll use it because it's really good.

I think the legendary equipment should either 1 enhance Omni cell uses or 2 give bonuses. I feel this could be hell for the devs to program, but something simpler could do the job; I thought about this using the animations from the game. A lot of text warning Malkarion 1- If you dodge and attack, you will dash through the behemoth and leave a trace that deals 50% of crit damage for 5s. 2- Dogging an attack will increase your crit damage by 10% for each second you have avoided danger, doubled against aether charged behemoths; damage will decay if not struck for more than 10s ("Fulminating finesse"). Torogadoro 1.- Ignite your weapon on parry; apply fire to the behemoth for 10s. 2.- The first parry will knock down the behemoth for 10s (30s cd), giving "scorched control" (an individual aura that increases 50% damage for 10s, staggering and interrupting will also proc "scorched control"). Dealing fire damage also deals stagger damage. Thrax 1.- Revenant orbs will immediately come to you after jumping / Damage increase is a fixed % instead of depending on how many tentacles hit. 2.- Critical striking a behemoth will corrupt them, increasing damage received up to 30%; at 10 stacks, 50% of core damage will be added as wound damage (Void's laughter) Agarus 1.- Bastion has shield gating; when the shield gets damaged, it deals double of its value as damage. 2-. Deal four times the damage you lifesteal as additional damage; after getting hit, you inflict "infested"; as long as the behemoth has this status (10s), slayers receive 15% less damage (Microspores...beast). Urska 1.- Excessive healing turns into a shield (300 max). 2.- Share attack speed, attack damage, regeneration, crit chance, crit damage, and damage resistance buffs within your squad. 50%/60%/80% of the buff value accordingly to the number of slayers. Cascade orbs are stackable and immediately applied (Sky Frostwarden). Chronovore 1.-You can revive other slayers while the danger meter is at 100%. The drone shots a radiant laser that increases damage received by behemoths by 10% in general. 2.-Every fifth hit heals 10% max hp to the lowest slayer; excess healing will transform into a stacking buff that allows you to apply radiant bombs to the behemoth; these bombs deal 20% damage and will explode after 2s without you dealing damage (Chrono triggered).

Honestly, the issue with legendary armor is there's no reason to pay the absurd material costs you can get from ONLY attacking one behemoth from the top of escalation ladder over and over ... just to get stats you could get elsewhere. In fact, with the two prismatics from getting a much more valuable legendary weapon, you never have to wear legendary armor at all. Now if legendary armor pieces had extras like the exotic armors, or set bonuses, or prismatic slots, or ANYTHING at all, then yeah, it might be worth it.

Like I said before, this game needs to let you actually advance by leveling and refining instead of just being stuck in a loop. And legendary needs to give you substantial benefits. I just log in and do dailies now. Unless there’s a hunt pass I really like there’s not much in the game, as far as armor is concerned, that I like the looks of.

would be cool If each legendary armor had like some special ability that matches the behemoth. examples malkarion- Dodges become like the chain blades dodges on all weapons, if using chain blades, dodging costs less stamina. Torgadoro- I don't know, maybe a parry or something Agarus- your first death in a fight is ignored and you get revived, also getting that green shield that Agarus gets in his fight, it would give 50% damage reduction and stagger immunity for the next 3 hits. Thrax- you can use umbral portals, basically having a portal gun Urska- I have no idea what this could be Chronovore- getting hit reflects some damage back at the behemoth, has a cool down

They need to utilize those escalation specific perks to specialize each armor. Imagine entering the umbral, become invulnerable and have increased crit damage and chance or you become a ether charged for 60 secs

this is why I still think we need some sort of passive for armor, the more pieces of an armor set you have the stronger that one passive becomes, right now armor is exclusively for cells and only weapons have unique effects, giving armor unique effects would allow late game armor to actually be special, obviously this would probably be a balancing nightmare but giving malkarion armor something like a discount thunder mantle amp passive would make sense considering the innate grace cell. Stuff like that

for thrax, after doing x crit, your next attack creat a corruption pool that deal dmg? Agarus, i think if you don't move, you regen could be better. because.... tree dont move, and agarus have a regen patern. Great video !

I like the idea to give the armor some special passive effect that you don't have anywhere else. So we would have active abilities on the legendary weapons and passive effects on the full armor set. I also like the idea for Agarus that it's triggered by not moving for a few seconds. You could sprout vines to root a close behemoth or drop these poison clouds etc.

I was just thinking about this topic and then I saw your video and I agree with what you said. Though my thoughts on Atherhunter and Rage hunter are a bit different where element effect is tied in. Light for Atherhunter and Dark for Ranghunter since I don't think we have an effect for these elements yet. I thnk this would work decently well as legendary weapons add to the element build up anyway.

I imagine for Trax it could be after a certain amount of critical hits you get the Umbral transformation like the Amp in scalations, except fixed to a certain dng% to balance. The amount of crits needed to transform being diferent depeding on your weapon, just like the Nergigante healing armor skill from MH World that healed you a small amount after a certain number of consecutive hits.

As someone who just got back playing after a period of time away from the game (I stopped playing when the chronovore was new, just kinda lost steam) I don't know a lot about the new game. I think maybe an overhaul for the armor mechanic is needed, but an interesting idea might be to be able to choose the in-built cell? Maybe talking to the middleman after finishing a unique quest will allow for you to choose a piece of armor and a cell you own to be infused together. Make it a once a week thing that refreshes, and make it a stupid amount of aetherdust to actually do it, so that people who really like the armor can grind and get the armor piece they want. So like I can trade off aetherhunter for knockout king if I'm willing to not use that cell anymore (completely gone and id have to get a new +3) and I have to wait to use the armor. I feel like armor is the one thing the game is trying really hard to box us in on, and it doesn't make much sense.

My thoughts are that it's good to have the game like this,you have to go in depth with your build to make it good,instead of killing a legendary monster and take its armor just to have the strongest armor from there

I think a lvl 6 Knockout King needs an extra perk. Like a 10% chance to stop a behemoth from entering rage, mainly because the behemoth spams rage as well as using it to remove the stars above their head to stop you from knocking them out.

For the Chronovore, since you have max pulse, you could get something like 50% more crit damage or some buffs to crits

We already have amps that would work well for set bonuses. Maybe if you have four parts of legendary armor it would open up a slot for you to bond one of the previously existing amps based on the which escalation it's from. The amp you can put on would depend on the number of gear in a set you have on. Having 4 different legendary sets would only give you common amps, 2 uncommon, an so on. For example, having full Malkerion gives you access to Bonds of Conflict, while 2 Malk and 2 Crono (would never happen but is an example) would limit you to uncommon amps like Spiteful Onslaught and Healing Dream.

Can confirm, if I max out Aetheric Attunement and manage to find Torgadoro's Resilience (no stamina costs) amp, the final Blaze esca round can be finished via mounting Torg and jumping off and rehooking in time

A definite boost for armor sets, would be to let the legendary armors have the special cell slots, That way a slayer can just build their sets, however they want

Well they don't have set bonuses in dauntless but they're much more friendly with mix-and-matching armors and the slot fills are much easier to acquire but for the legendary sets I like thrax's chest and legs Torgadoro's helm Urska's helm Skarn lantern runs good with a lot of different combos as long as you have a legendary weapon draw back a little weak to radiance

my noob build for sword and axe (probably works for other weapon but i don't play them) Skarn helmet + 3 Tough Skarev Jacket +3 Adrenaline Embermane Gloves +3 Cunning Boreus Boots +3 Cunning Legendary weapon or embermane axe with +3 Tenacius and +3 Endureance Hypothermia with silver sword bound and iceborn omnicell gives u 2k hp with +6 tenacious and 200-210 stamina with +6 adrenaline might not be the best dps but i survie most of the time have some dmg

I wish there was a reroll system to be able to change cell slot types on gear and weapons but it costs aetherhearts and it’s not guaranteed to get the one you want unless you spend an extra heart or something.

i feel like that the best way to make the legendary behemoth armour sets actualy "legendary" is to give just 1 of the armour pieces in each set a prismatic cell slot. whether it is on the armour piece with the worst built in perk, or the armour piece with the best built in perk, i feel like getting a prismatic cell on the armour would make the armour much better, and make it worthy of being called legendary armour. but, this is just my way of thinking. i completely understand if some people may disagree with my thinking.
