Wow. That comment by Tretiak "They looked like the happiest people in the world, and we wished we were them." Love that! No bitterness, Just class from a one time greatest player in the world. (arguably)

I can remember it still. I was 12.. and so excited because my Dad had made me a huge Hockey fan with the Broad Street Bullies of Philly.. My parents had raised me to love my country and our Flag.. I watched every game religiously, My parents didn't even get out of bed the morning we beat Finland for the Gold.. I was up all by myself to see that happen. But the Miracle on Ice.. that feeling was so amazing. I'll remember it forever.

There are moments in the Super Bowl, World Series, and NBA Finals that are amazing and emotional and pivotal for the specific team and city from which those teams reside. But there has never EVER been a moment in sports that has been that transcendent for the entire United States of America at one moment. We were ALL on the same team that night, and instead of a couple million people behind them, there were 300 million.

37 years and it's still talked about. I can see why. In all of sports- any team- 1980 US Olympic Hockey was my favorite victory of all time.

I continue to explain to younger fans who did not personally experience the "Miracle on Ice" that there is no way to overstate the improbability and importance of this game for this country that desperately needed something to rally around and celebrate. Al Michaels' call was the perfect icing on the cake.

I'm fortunate enough to live 90 minutes from Lake Placid. I hope everyone gets a chance to visit the village, it's absolutely magical.

Great comment by Michaels about the "Miracle" being the only happy memory we have of remembering where we were when...…...

I was in college (same age as most of the players on that team), my brother was a senior in high school. I don't remember watching the USA/USSR game, although I know I did, and when they won and they had the chance to win the gold, I stayed home from church, which was a testimony to how excited I was about this, as nothing but being at death's door would keep me from church.

At the time I was 12 yrs old...didn't know squat about hockey...but I was sick with the mumps and missed a lot of school around that time...so I was able to watch most of the games and my dad and I had a blast watching those games

I do not know nor have I ever met Al Michaels, but he seems to be a super great guy. Classy. I don’t think you can have the staying power in the business if you are anything but that. 40 plus years leaves a lot of time to rub a lot of people the wrong way. And he is supremely admired by his colleagues.

If you go to Lake Placid, you walk into the 1980 ice rink (there is the 1932 rink attached to it) you can still feel the energy of that game.
