So, I think one of the most amazing things, despite everything about this video, and your other content, is that you're honest. You mean what you say. Looking on this page, every comment has a genuine response. Not just a 'K thanks", but a thought out response. You say in your video that you really do like reaching out, and being a part of the community, and you mean it. That to me, is worth its weight in gold. Not to mention everything else, and the amount of effort that went into making content. It certainly made me decide on going with Contax Zeiss lenses, and I currently have a 35mm 2.8 mmj, and a 50mm 1.4 aej. And I love them. I may have also spent too much money on tools to take apart, and care for these lenses...But it is worth it. Thanks for doing what you do, and I look forward to more of your content!

@MediaDivision4 жыл бұрын
Well… pretty much all "better" modern lenses would be able to do that, plus post processing will give you that option as well. To use vintage lenses is more about getting some subtile character that is missing in "perfect" glas.
@marksummers55044 жыл бұрын
Media Division That’s the character I’m referring to. The higher contrast/micro contrast with the rich colors are what draws me at least. I’m a still photographer who rarely does video so using LUTS aren’t really my thing as is hours of post processing. The only modern glass that I’ve found that competes well are the GM lenses from Sony. But character apparently is subjective. I still shoot film occasionally and the Zeiss glass combined with the film stock has been hard to beat. I enjoyed the video. I’m certain it took much time and work. Nice job 👍

Just did the mount conversion and declicking on 5.5/6 of my Contax Lenses! I accidentally did mix up the aperture ring, and the lever that needs to be removed on the 35mm 2.8 aej that I did second (oops). I took me at least an hour to reverse engineer the part that fell off and how it works to open/close the aperture mechanism hahaha. It's all working fine though in case anyone makes the same error as myself! The other one's all went smoothly except my 85 mm 1.4. When I got it recently, the screws were pretty well stripped to begin with. I got two out (mmj version), but did two of them in even further trying to work with what was there, and haven't been able to get them loose yet. Even with a soldering iron, rubber band, and super glue. My next step is to try and dremel a slot in them, but I figured I'd check in here and see if you had any better suggestions for dealing with stripped screws before I get metal shavings that close to the rear element. (I would mask it off well with tape, but I'd rather do something less destructive if possible first!) Thanks for such a great video, it helped give me the boost I needed to fill out my set, convert some of my ZE models into Contax, and then mod the set myself! I'm loving them even more than the ze classics I had been collecting! I've got the 18 f4, 28 f2.8, 35 f2.8, 50mm f1.4 (these all match weight for gimbal), 85mm f1.4, and 135mm f2.8 in Contax now! My 21mm f2.8, 35mm f1.4, and 100mm makro f2.0 are still ze though.... for now ;)

Great to see you see so enthusiastic and adventurous! Thanks for the flowers. Regarding the problem that you are screwed. I had that once. The screw was so ruined that there was just no way to get it out by using a screwdriver. What I did: I used the same multitool I use in the video to polish the part but with a different head to just slowly and carefully shave off the head of the screw until I could just lift the ring underneath. You can then get the rest of the screw out with pincers - no problem. I replaced the screw with one from another broken cheap Contax Zeiss that I have lying around for parts. Good luck

@@MediaDivision Now I owe you a beer for unscrewing my dilemma like that! What a simple and elegant solution. The hard mount screws that come with the adapter will replace the stripped screws, so I don't care if the stripped ones die in the process haha. I did pick up a dremel multi-tool similar to the one you used to polish the filed down mounts, so I'll find the right attachment to do what you suggested! I'll be back to report my results lol!

Media Division that tip worked great for getting the mounts off. Just got my grease and am onto dampening and declicking. I was going to leave them clicked but a bunch of the mmj ones kinda declicked themselves so to speak hahah.

Thanks man.... yeah, that is a nice idea. Some poetry. In your case it will be so much about the lighting. Timing will be the key. Morning mist with a drone over head... and golden hours all the way. If you are a professional photographer moving into the field of professional cinematography, there is no better place to learn than at the free instructional video series produced by Media Division. In this episode, they describe the modification of the CONTAX ZEISS lens series that I started buying into in 1978, at age 17, in Canada, on the advice of my father Professor Sava Bosnitch and my instructor of technical photography Professor Gerhard Gloss, two men who were conscripted into opposing sides in WWII, becoming close friends in Canada long after the war in which each of them survived executions (my late father survived a Nazi execution, and Prof. Gloss survived an execution by Canadian troops). Hi there, I'm just thinking in get the contax set. The 50, 85 and 28 mm has a great value for it's price I think, but the the price of the 35mm 1,4 on eBay is us$1,000 (or higher). My question is, do you think this 35mm worth the money? Or is more practical get a modern one for the same price. Thanks for your comments, I love your channel
@MediaDivision4 жыл бұрын
If it is worth it for you, only you can decide. I think it is not that dramatic to either live without it, or just use the zoom for that focal length. I am not sure if I would use a lens from another set, that is something I would try before I go for it. Probably only relevant when shooting very wide open.
