I have a set of 10 Pre-Ai Nikkor lenses from late 60’s and early 70’s that I use with both my film cameras and my BMPCC4K. I love how the single coated old glass flares compared to modern lenses or even AI-S Nikkors. They also have a really long focus throw compared to for example newer Nikkors or Canon new FD’s. The Contaxes are on my list to try though!

Congratulations for your amazing content! In my short experience with the old Bmpcc I use Nikkor AF and AIS glass with a Viltrox Speedbooster. But I find purple fringing in the flares annoying, and I they are too cold with skin tones. Same with a Rollei Planar 50mm F1.8 and a Hasselblad 80mm f2.8 I tested, too cold with the eye's bags. I prefer Minolta Rokkor glass for colour reproduction, more neutral. This summer I was lucky, and found a bargain set of Leica R (28,35,50,90,135 and 180mm) and they do shine in skin tones creaminess! The problem is to find a 19mm to complete the set below 1000 EUR. 😌

I've watched a few of your videos (maybe original BMPCC days) and noted a general preference for a particular colour cast (light magenta?) which I chalked down to your grading. I skimmed through one of your recent Antarctica videos to re-check and can see the grade there as well (neutralized by the cooler light a bit) . The Zeiss glass organically leans towards a warmer look so there is a possibility of compounding the warm effect.... but you appear not to have compensated. Again, preference, but your sunsets seem affected by the compounding the most... appears a bit contrived. However, love your work and dedication... and for showcasing Sydney. Keep up the good stuff ! Thanks

Since I really wanted to avoid using speedboosters on my Pocket 4K, I went with the 0.95 Voigtlanders. They are, in my opinion, the most cinematic glass you can get from this new era of lenses, on any Blackmagic camera. Currently I own the 10.5mm, 17.5mm and 42.5mm and actually have no need now to get any more. To me, this set with BMPCC4K is the best what I could have now, and in the future.

It isn’t quite fair if the FDs you are comparing are the bottom line sets (24 f/2.8 and 50 f/1.8). If someone does want to go the FD Route they should definitely seek out the middle line (24/28/35 f/2.0; 50 f/1.4 etc.) as they have a much better build. However the Zeiss are outstanding-I used them on my first feature with a Red Epic-MX and loved the look. Great video! Thanks :)

Got my first vintage lens thanks to you, it was 25mm f2.8 mmj from Japan, I'm using an ebay adapter for now till I get to put either leitax or simmod for a stronger mount. if anyone is considering buying note there's extra import fees to pay (about 20% the cost), in case you need to return you can't have those refunded easily. On the Viltrox to EF they fit perfectly, on Metabones Ultra they cause a slight scratch to the velvet side inside, on both speedboosters I had to adjust them to get infinity focus "by rotating the inner glass". but I guess if use them on native EF camera you won't have this issue. I learned so much already in just a week, this kinda added motivation to go out and shoot in these depressing lockdown times. Thanks :)

The Leica R lens has a very smooth look which makes everything look nicer, and is very sharp, I got the 28mm Elmarit -which means F:2,8 and the 50mm and 90mm Summicron -which means F:2 -Two and Three-cam (means year). But I Use my Zeiss C/Y lenses much more. They make a more bluntly look. Especial the Planar and Distagons got a very fine 3D rendering -(called "the Zeis pop"), The Sonnars on the other hand got very fine shades, if not up-sharpned to much, which gives a pronounced plasticity -very good for faces. Both the Leica and Zeiss got beautiful rich colors. For me it looks like the Canon FDs have less contrast and a more flat look and not as clean saturated colors (I sold mine).

Hey, the main reason was the cost of course but also because the ones that I got (sometimes dubbed as the gimbal kit) are pretty much all the same size and weight which a huge advantage in some cases. Vintage lenses are great for certain projects. I only use mine for specific work or when I have the time to use them on set as well. I still use my canon and sigma zooms a lot especially for documentary work. In my opinion having vintage primes is great for commercial work, passion projects and also as investment.

@@OfTwoLands @Of Two Lands Oh, yeah the Olympus OM Zuiko series primes are definitely vintage and almost as good as their Leica equivalents. Much the same with Pentax-M; frankly Leica and Contax lovers just have too much money. I have tested over 150 lenses in the past 4 years (I resell film cameras locally)... The so-called premium brands aren't noticeably better, especially through the bottleneck of instagram. They don't justify the price when you can sell one and buy an entire set of primes from Olympus, Konica, Nikon, Canon, or Pentax. Both the Pentax-M 28/2.8 and 35/2.8 are very underrated lenses, if you shoot film the Pentax-M 40/2.8 pancake is without competition. Anyone who wants to disrespect Pentax glass obviously hasn't tried their M-Series on a mirrorless camera or film camera, nor have they tried their best glass (such as the Pentax-M 28mm 2.0 for example). The 28/2.0 is literally as good as any 28mm ever manufactured, I am lucky to have found one as they are quite rare. The Konica Minolta glass is also tremendously undervalued-- their 40/1.8 pancake almost never leaves my Fuji X-T3. Their final manual focus versions (the Konica AR series) can get excruciatingly expensive but some of them are readily available under $100 and are well worth the price. Konica made a 28mm 1.8 that sells for $1500-$2000 regularly; is it worth it? Not a chance.

@@attilaishere_barcelona7935 Hi. If you have good pieces, CZJ are a great choice. I still have for the old pocket of glass CZJ Tevidon (1 "glass from the security cameras of the communist police Stasi) These are also great glasses for smaller chips. Very good set is Tevidon 10mm F2, Tevidon 16mm F1,8 and Tevidon 25mm F1,4. I put BMPCC in one pocket my shirt and three glasses in the other. And ready for shots everyday. On my channel there are examples of the work of these "eastern" glasses.I prefer to shoot with BMPCC (old small version) with a Tevidon 16mm F1.8 lens. Here is the set for this: altechnologies.cz/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/BMPCC-cmount03.jpg I modified the BMPCC to C-mount No reductions = no problems. Great for outdoor shots. I also use this set on BMPCC4k in 2.6k crop mode.

What do you think about pairing them with Canon FD lenses? I mean i can only afford one of them.

I think if you get a really good FD it should be fine. It’s just that the FD tend to flare a lot more and have more of a look than the zeiss.

The BMPCC 6K has a crop factor of about 1.56x, does this bother you at all considering you can’t go exactly the focal length that you got?

@@renzosunga646 do you use the pro version? And do you use it in combination with a speedbooster? I’m currently using a k&f concept c/y to ef together with a Speedbooster XL 0,64. I am having problems with it having play as well as problems with reaching true infinity focus when shooting wide open (F1.4). Would love to hear what your setup is and if you also have problems reaching infinity focus.

@@tijmenbrouwersI just use the normal versions of the CY to EOS mount. I actually found that the fotodiox adapter is really loose on my 85, so I ordered another brand called Haoge and that one fits like a snug, and for my 28mm, I am using a brand called Oumij: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07WCFLW1C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1&fpw=alm For some reason, the lens mounts are not all the same fit unfortunately. As for my lenses, I own the 50 1.7, but I don't have any problems with reaching infinity focus. It might be a problem with your actual lens maybe? My current set up is: Speedbooster 0.71x ------ to CY/EOS ----- Contax Zeiss
