You are a better interviewer than many pros, even when he mentions making his first comic book, most people would have mentioned "I just made my own comic as well", but you keep the focus on him. Kudos.

Really enjoyed this interview. I recently made my first purchase (Amazing Spider-Man 50 CGC 7.0) from Vinnie. I like his passion and he's very charismatic. And he has a sense of humor and a seeming humanity. I don't know know how many times I have approached dealers at cons and just tried to make casual conversation to see the vibe and been treated coldly. That's an immediate mental note of "no sale ever" for me whether they have something I'd like to buy or not. And like he mentions I'll often make a small purchase and see how it goes before considering a larger one. I don't necessarily have to become friends with the folks I buy from but courtesy is a must. That applies to so many things not just comics as far as I'm concerned. Lastly I'm super jealous of Vinnie's cosmic cube! (And the Ditko Electro art, WOW!)

39:19 I'm someone who usually passes on a book if the holder requires replacement because it costs a little under $200 with fees and shipping from Canada to reholder 1 book. That purchase also comes with an added 8 weeks of waiting, the risk of damage when shipping, the risk of CGC returning a holder with newton rings or more scratches etc. I've already had a miserable time dealing with Comic Connect customer support, no chance I'd trust them to keep track of my purchase and handle a CGC submission on my behalf.

I enjoyed this video very much, and Vincent seems like a really likable and great human being! It is sad though that out of all the comic places I have bid/bought stuff on line, my worst experience sadly was with comic connect. It mostly had to do with a wait time about 3 1/2 weeks longer than advertised with no communication until I reached out myself and then had to deal with the slowest email responses I have ever received in my life. I know they are busy, and it may not have been their fault (I was given no reason), but it did sour me on buying from them again sadly. Having said that though; I would gladly buy something from Vincent or his company at a Con though; as long as I could get the book handed to me right after I paid for it. Keep up the great content Swaggle!

Terrific interview with Vincent. I didn't know CC created the QES label. Your other questions were great and stayed on point even coming back around to get a definitive answer (which I think seemed to annoy Vincent a bit). Vincent's internal monalogue is saying, "Ok Swag ask me a new question?" 😅 There was one question I hoped you'd ask, and you did!! It was that frustrating 3 min reset. I don't fully agree with his reasons, but glad that may change when site is replatformed sometime this year, as he mentioned. It was nice to hear his passion and hardwork for his business, while being a true collector too. Aside the amazing original art he owns in the office, I can only imagine what high grade QES Super Keys he owns for PC kept in some vault! If Vincent ever sells them, he could first ask his CGC or liked friends to create a customized and "pedigree" type label just for him. 😃👍

Great to see Vince, class act. Great interview although I wish he was more candid about video games, as he mentioned it's trending in the right direction. That's simply not the case, unfortunately. That market has been in freefall for a while and I think we needed more realness on that topic - same with VHS.

In NYC they ask you immediately what you do to size you up and make a quick decision if they want to continue to speak to you. I lived there for 5 years. If you say you sell comics, good luck getting dates lol. People there want to date finance bros.

Hey, what’s up no matter how bad the comic book market has been for the last year or so you never know when it’s the proper time to sell. This is Bob in Connecticut. It’s just like I got rid of my fantastic four 1 3.5 and I only got $5000 not too long ago. I had a Steve Ditko original Spider-Man page from issue 12 with Doc Ock with no Spider-Man or Parker in the panels.. I didn’t get that much at all. I still have a Ditko page but it’s Indiana Jones from the 1980s it’s hanging on my wall and I have original Ant-man art from tales to astonish 43 don heck with Ant-man in most of the panels.

I have bought comics from all of the auction houses. Vincent claims his process is the best because of the 3 minute clock at the end. He might be right from a seller’s perspective as it likely pushes the price higher as bidders compete. But from a buyer’s perspective, it is the worse. I really dislike it. Hakes is another auction house that does something similar. Heritage also favors sellers over buyers as the Live auction process can accomplish the same thing. I like ComicLink (and EBAY too) better because the auction ends and it requires you to make you best bid without being granted a another chance. I have lost comics due to last minute sniping but it doesn’t generate the negative emotions that I feel when an auction item stays open (and someone increases a bid in the last 20 seconds to restart the clock). Regardless of which auction house I use, I have never overpaid for single purchase and have consistently gotten good to great deals every time (10-30% < FMV). Sorry sellers. I also believe that the Golden Age and Pre-code market is overheated. Pricing today for many of these books is following the similar pattern as the Silver Age and Bronze Age did in 2021/2022. Also not surprised your guest is bullish on the comic market. He has to be as it is his core business.
@ddougherty8266 Жыл бұрын
agreed - I no longer use their site for this reason....Waiting a week for an auction to end, and then this going, going, gone thing? Not for me. ebay works for me... there are always dozens of copies of almost any comic that I want.... just wait, and it will come around for a price that I'm willing to pay. But that's just me.

Agreed - That said, it's likely that all of the big dealers do the same... they make their living off of collectors buying things that they don't need. Millions of comics in personal collections - 100 times more copies than could be absorbed if they started to come onto the market. Prices would plummet, so the hype must be maintained. Buy what you want and don't pay a nickle over what you're willing to pay for a comic, and assume that it may someday be worthless, and you'll be fine. Comics are not investments - if collectors keep it in mind that the only people who make money from comics are the people doing it for a living, then they'll never be disappointed.
