I had a 97, super black just like this. It was a SE with black leather heated seats, the Bose audio and a sunroof - all the options of the time basically. I had these great looking mesh wheels on it and I kept it clean and waxed. I was just about finished with an engine rebuild on a spare motor using the '05 350z RevUp cams. I manual swapped it and had Koni shocks on it with the Eibach spring kit. I made a set of bushings to hold spherical bearings to replace the ball joint so I could use a long bolt and a spacer to relocate the lower control arm ball joint pivot down to correct the suspension geometry after installing the Eibach springs which lowered it about 1.5". I had an E-Manage Ultimate to tune the air/fuel ratio and add some timing. I was stopped, waiting for traffic to pass to make a left and some guy not even paying attention just plowed right into the back of it at 45. The entire trunk accordioned in breaking the rear windshield and my girlfriend hit her head on the roof. It was considerably worse than this Maxima. An off duty EMS tech stopped to see if we were alright. He said the rear of the car lifted 18 inches off the ground on impact. There was no tire screeching and no skid marks from the other driver. Girlfriend had a concussion but I was fine - she recovered. The car was totaled. It was like 15 years old with only 160,000 miles. I got $3500 for it from the other driver's insurance. These are awesome cars. I loved the body lines and being Nissan's premier model at the time they were built in Japan and you could really appreciate the quality.

Years ago on an icy February morning I came off the freeway into downtown Columbus, Ohio only to find a long line of backed up cars and me overdriving my sightline in the jersey barrier guarded elevated exit ramp. I locked up the wheels with the brakes. Now, of course, the vehicle travels nothing but straight. Straight ahead is a newish Lincoln. And in the decision of rat ride S10 Blazer vs newish Lincoln repair costs, I turned the steering wheel left to the stop and released the brake peddle. My Blazer instantly snapped left and hit the concrete jersey barrier with some gusto. The good news is the Lincoln escaped any and all harm. Once the traffic started moving again, I continued on to my normal parking garage with the front left tire loudly rubbing the inner fender well. The vehicle's hood was also quite crumpled up in the left front. I worked the full day, got a ride home to pick up the floor jack and a 20 lb. sledgehammer. Back at the downtown parking garage, which also housed cars for the big Columbus Police building, I jacked up the left front, removed the wheel, and proceeded to tee off on the inner part of the fender well with the sledgehammer. Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! The crunching echoes reverberating through the parking structure were impressive. My girlfriend of the time was just standing there with mouth open looking around at the others in the parking garage looking at us. Rather stunned someone from the police department didn't stop by to query what was going on. Eventually, I created enough clearance to operate the vehicle without the tire rub. Over the next couple of weeks, I installed fog lights by drilling mounting holes in the pulled-to-somewhat-straight bumper. The two fog lights were wired into the low and high beam circuits. The low beam fog light was outfitted with a shielded bulb so as not to blind normal on-coming traffic. With in a year of the crash I had to replace the Blazer's front end along with the bearing/hub on the left side. I kept that crunched monstrosity road worthy for another ten years in that Frankenstein-like condition. It functioned perfectly. My girlfriend loved to drive the thing because, "People just get out of my way." Sadly, the car's body succumbed to a crack in the exhaust manifold which pumped hot air onto the driver's side floorboard. The hot gasses sped up corrosion eventually creating a floorless vehicle. At the time I did not possess the equipment or skills to weld up the necessary fixes. I do now, however... I have no idea why I enjoy keeping vehicles on the road for as long as possible. It's like some mechanical skills and puzzle challenge. Family and friends obviously look at my "hobby" with some distain. I just smile knowing how little I spend per mile compared to them.

Not restored as it was but fair enough. Seems like the insurance folks believe anything that runs isn't worth more than $1,000. Where we are, if it starts and runs, minimum $1,500 to $2,000 and if it drives like this car, the value goes up. You could use a large pinch weld clamp to grab onto the 1/4 panel and pull it backward an inch or so to help the gap between the deck lid and 1/4 fill in better. Overall, it's at least legal for the street and drives okay. Not bad for the mechanic Ivan with his body shop skills.
@leocarvajal69674 жыл бұрын
To achieve proper pop-out in metal you need to use sliding hammer. Make holes with drill where needed and use small custom made L hook. First peel all paint with harsh fiber drill wheel. DO NOT heat the sheet metal. Scary Hallowen man..

Nice work, Ivan! Exactly how I do body work, lol! Any port in a storm, as they say! I had a '85 Monte Carlo that used to negotiate sharp right hand turns without any input from me, HAHAHA! That thing hit everything but the lottery. Both rear quarters were pounded out with a ball-peen hammer (VERY rough looking, lol) by the previous owner. Then I stuffed it so many times I lost count, after installing free low-profile Saab tires from my buddy's shop - those things were DEADLY in snow! I couldn't keep it on the road, LOL! I lost reverse, so whenever I hit a pole (which was 3-5 times every time it snowed) I'd have to push the car backwards myself. Nobody stops to help in MA, especially a long haired teenager with a scowl and a beat up, smoking and bent Monte Carlo with "Sex, Drums, Rock n Roll" etched in the quarter glass ... :D

A lot of that damage could have been removed with a deflated football or basketball placed between the outer skin and inner bracing. Inflate ball slowly and watch for 'over-extension' of the outer quarter 'skin'. The crease by the light could have possibly been 'massaged' with a narrow-ish block of wood and hammer.
