I would probably have to google and confirmed this, but there's only two grunge front men left alive. That's Eddie Vedder and Billy Corgan. And Corgan doesn't really look all that healthy today. He seems slow, pudgy and depressed. Is Candlebox considered grunge? If so, then Kevin Martin is still around and seems to be doing well.

I was thinking the same thing. All these people saying 'Screaming Trees, Mad Season, QOTSA'... 'and several solo albums', when every solo album and Mark Lanegan Band album (Field Songs, Bubblegum, Blues Funeral, Phantom Radio, Gargoyle, Somebody's Knocking...) is an absolute gem and masterpiece in it's own right! I don't think these people must have been following him, going to see him, buying his albums and supporting him, in more recent years and I think they have been missing out on a lot. Not to say that's a crime or those people who were following him up to the end are superior, in any way. It's just that, by the way they give all the solo stuff such a short, cursory, mention, it's like they're probably not really up to date on how great his later stuff was and they've probably missed out on a lot. I bet there'll be a few people who will be checking it out, getting their minds blown and 'kicking themselves' for missing out on it, now. I'm a rock/alt. rock/ metal and guitar music fan at heart, I suppose, but I absolutely loved all the use of the keyboards and synths!

@LouisWinthorpe622
@LouisWinthorpe622 2 жыл бұрын
@@suchabadkitty1293 mmm.. He was there for those of us who were prepared to seek, to find him, a little bit. And how beautifully rewarded we all were. It (the music and style) just wasn't en vogue in these days of auto-tune, low brow, lowest common denominator, pop, Niki Minaj, Cardi B and mumble rap, so the money and industry hype machine wasn't there to finance ramming it down the kind of people's throats who are just prepared to sit there and lap up whatever pablum and dreck daytime radio and TV, etc pushes in front of their face. I like to imagine that he had us and we had him, in a way, and we were both quite happy with the situation as it stood. I believe that he had a kind of renaissance, creatively and career-wise, in the last 10 - 15 years and he must have been seeing a few happy and comfortable years, at long last, after kicking the skag, being able to work at his journeyman craft, doing what he loved and all that. For this, I am happy and grateful. As for whether he was underrated, or not rated by enough people, I don't really care who else, or how many other people, like what I like and I don't deign to venture as to whether there should have been more. I'm glad there were enough of us to facilitate his renaissance but the world is a complicated place (I'm sure you know that, too but bear with me) and I know that the factors which govern how popular or 'rated' some music, an artist, or a particular piece of art becomes has absolutely nothing to do with what I perceive as quality, validity, appeal, attraction or worth, so I don't really sweat it, feel frustrated by it, or have much of an opinion on the subject of how popular or rated an artist 'should' be. You could even say that, taking the world as a kind of giant petri dish, all of the outcomes are the outcomes that were always going to happen, all things considered. Whether we deem them to be fair ones or not. You can still say that you, personally, feel that an artist has been underrated by the world's population, if you want. Any subjective option is valid and fair. But I think that, when we say things like that, we should at least recognise the little smidgeon of self-righteousness, shall we say, that we are betraying exists within ourselves. I'm happy that he achieved the level of ratedness, with the solo albums and collaborative work during the little renaissance that he was having, later in life and grateful for all of the gifts that he gave me, all of them worth far more than the price that I paid, before he was taken from us far too soon. I believe he had a few, well deserved, million in the bank at long last, was happily married, living in a place where he must have loved being, a lot. And I believe anybody that he touched with his gifts, music and art, rated him enormously; probably as one of the greats. I can tell that you must have rated him enormously, as well. He is going to be very sadly missed.

It hurts. I remember listening to mark the first time about 10 years ago...yeah im late. I was pretty young and moody at the time....pots of coffee in the morning, and american spirit blues with a side of mark lanengan on hot spring rainy dayz. RIP to the GOAT....if you know you know...the best kept secret. xoxox

Well, I feel sad and selfish. He was one of the last musicians I listed to. I'm going to miss his beautiful music. My heart goes to his loved ones. Such crazy times we are living in. Perhaps we're being tested.

Mark always toured Australia back in the day. Saw him in every incarnation from Queens to even the Bubblegum tour. He was my favorite performer through the best years of my life and that can never be replaced. God speed Mark.

What a huge loss. One of the last of the greats from the Seattle scene. I was lucky enough to see him perform with QOTSA in 2004. RIP

Fuck. I've been binge listening to his stuff and had a weird feeling as of late. Saw him the first time with just his awesome guitar player and was moved to tears by the stripped down version of I Am the Wolf. Saw him twice after and was amazed in a whole different way. A renowned singer, and a profound poet. Rest well sir and thank you for all you left us.
