When he stays behind the drums. I couldnt believe how much he improved between nirvana and this when i bought the album in 2002, and he was a decent enough drummer in nirvana but this is far and away my favourite album for drums

Nahhh I can't agree there my friend...Almost ALL the others are cooler! Lanegan certainly is. Homme for once content to be a backseat creative Beast. Even Olivieri is cooler...Dave is Wonderful and Kills It - but is like the excited kid in the family or Animal from the Muppets💎

I don't think a lineup like this was ever going to last, but for a brief moment in time we were blessed enough for it to happen. And just think about it, every one of these musicians was part of some iconic album in the 90s. It's talent galore.

I remember reading an interview with Dave around this time. He said he felt rejuvenated being a drummer and not a frontman again. I think that's why he put everything into drumming on this record

Everyone jokes about it, but i don't think people realize how intense the drumming actually is. Especially the outro! The rapid double hits with hitting the cymbals is absolutely insane.

Lanegan has one of the best rock voices out there. Gravelly, powerful and emotive. A lot of singer's of his ilk sound good on the record, but can't replicate live. Lanegan sounds as good if not better on stage.

I don’t get why everyone is frothing on Mark Lannegan. Yeah he sung ok but man what a boring and unenthusiastic performance while the rest of the band went absolutely nuts. I’d rather have seen Homme sing it. His voice and harmonies make that song so much better.

I was there. And yes, it was incredible! Kyuss, Screaming Trees, Nirvana Super Group. For my money, "Songs for the Deaf" is the best album of the 2000s. ❤

Dave Grohl has obviously written some incredible music in his time, but seeing him smash drums in his prime is unrivalled, not the most technical but for pure power and passion, as a rock drummer he's unrivaled imo

@@gamesmaster1060 yes…”not technical” means lack of rudimental playing…patterns, rolls, etc, though I’d argue that Grohl was more technical than people might think. Lots of triplets, flams and fast singles.

You must be new to this song. There was no mistake :-) There IS a pause like that, just before the track kicks off, Dave was simply looking at the band members to make sure they were ready :-)
