I worked at Stax for a while in 1969. One correction that I need to make is Rufus and Carla Thomas were not brother and sister. They were father and daughter. I really enjoyed this.

@@henknuwolt6272 The Elvis vlogs are hard for me to STOP mentioning little things.I've been holding my breath and hoping I won't get blocked, so I have to keep my Elvis addiction under control, but this was really something I was so shocked to see that Elvis wasn't mentioned anyplace...not by Jordan, I mean, by Stax...Jordan is almost untouchable in my books. He is the best for vlogging and I know he loves Elvis, but he can't be aware of everything that someone like me is..since I've been a fan since the age of 12.. I knew what toothpaste he used..I knew so much and it just continued all my life, but I actually started questioning myself during this vlog. Could it be that I'm so old now that I'm THAT confused? NO..DEFINITELY NOT!

Great one!!! I was fortunate to be a teenaged in the 60’s growing up with this great music! My love of music I passed on to my oldest daughter. A lot of good videos you’ve put out lately and a whole lot of good music came out of this place. Elvis had some great recording sessions here as well. IMO some of the best music was in the late 60’s to mid 70’s. Another interesting place with a lot of musical history is The Record Plant up in Sausalito. Last time I was there is was shuttered but heard it was up for sale and hopefully it will be turned into a museum. You can literally feel the vibes from the front of the building just knowing that Fleetwood Mac recorded Rumours there, along with so many other albums from so many great artists.

Excellent tour of an amazing museum, J. The one thing that remains original is the floor of the studio (the old movie theater amphitheater slope) which obviously isn't typical for a recording studio. When you were standing on that floor -- that was very close to being there with all of those great artists. Elvis recorded there in December '73 kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXm1kGCeqKZ8iKM when he didn't have to, but even he couldn't stop Stax's fate. Still, they didn't add his name to the wall of artists who recorded there, which is a crying shame. Also, Aretha Franklin was born about seven blocks from Stax.

That is so true what you said. It was a great time in music. I remember when I was a kid growing up in Brooklyn and my mom taking me to see the Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby movies. And when the Staple Singers songs would come on in the film people stood up and danced. All the old school heads know about that. I don't know if other states did this in the 70's or was this just a New York thing.

The mixing console seen at 10:53 near the window is a very important artifact. It's the Audiotronics console from Ardent Records, donated by John Fry (owner of Ardent). Ardent would take all of the overflow work from Stax in the 60s and 70s... plus they recorded their own sessions too. This console was used for mixing albums by numerous famous artists, including Isaac Hayes, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Booker T and the MGs, Leon Russell, The Cramps, The Box Tops, The Staple Singers. And for Big Star fans, this console was used on all three albums. (A second Ardent console is at the Rock N Soul museum in downtown Memphis.) It may be too late to visit on this trip, but next time you're planning to visit the Memphis area, contact Ardent Studios ahead of time and see if they are willing to give you a tour. I think they are willing to give tours if they have time and the studios aren't all booked. I received the tour back in 2014, led by Jody Stephens of Big Star... it was definitely the highlight of my Memphis visit! If you head to Nashville next, be sure to take the RCA Studio B tour, which is run by shuttle bus from the Country Music Hall of Fame. Over 1000 hits were recorded in that building, including almost all Elvis studio sessions from 1958 to the early 70s. Also worth visiting are the Ryman Auditorium and the Johnny Cash museum.
