Walkaround a 100 mile 1987 Buick GNX & close look at the accompanying documentation & GNX jacket. This is the ultimate Grand National!
1987 Buick GNX
Only 107 Miles From New!
Turbocharged 3.8L Engine
4-Speed Automatic Transmission
The Ultimate Performance Car Of Its Era
Built With Help From McLaren Performance Technologies/ASC
One Of Only 547 Ever Produced
Documented With Window Sticker, GNX Book, Jacket, Manuals And More!
LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1987 Buick GNX
The 1980’s was never a pinnacle for performance vehicles as auto manufacturers were berated with new government regulations covering safety, fuel economy and exhaust emissions. Buick engineers had been experimenting with turbocharging for years when the division introduced its first turbocharged V-6 engines in the 1978 Regal and LeSabre Sport Coupes. The 3.8L Turbo V-6 soon reinvigorated Buick’s performance image through continuing development that reached its peak in the 1987 GNX. Produced by McLaren Performance Technologies/ASC, the GNX’s 3.8L V-6 packed a new design of Garrett turbocharger with a ceramic impeller and a new intercooler to deliver 276 HP and 360 lb-ft of torque. It also employed specially tuned suspension, Goodyear Gatorback tires on 16-inch aluminum wheels in custom flared wheel wells and front-fender vents to extract engine heat. A 4-speed automatic, Positraction, power steering and brakes, tilt steering, power windows and locks, cruise control and air conditioning were standard equipment. The result was a potent performance car that could do 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds and was faster than anything else offered in the USA at the time.
Only 547 were built, all finished in black with a black-and-gray interior featuring special white-faced Stewart Warner gauges, a power 6-way driver’s seat, special headrest embroidery, and a padded sport steering wheel. Sold new at Jim Keras Buick in Memphis TN. With only 107 original miles this example has been collector-owned and extremely well cared for since delivery. Under close inspection, one can still see the original factory-applied stamps, stickers, and paint dabs throughout the car. It is an outstanding example of a delivery mileage GNX. Documenting this Buick muscle car is the window sticker, GNX book, GNX jacket, owner’s manuals and more.
In this period, the GNX was the king of the streets and proved there was a replacement for pure cubic inches of displacement. With only 547 units ever produced, they are extremely sought after and have been steadily rising in value. Examples like this one, with ultra-low mileage, are the most sought after and collectible now and for the years to come.

I had took auto body in vocation so I got work at a GM dealership out of high school in 85. All Gm cars back then had orange peel like that. They also had a problem with chemical spots, supposedly from acid rain. Metallic streaking was another big problem. Needless to say we had brand new cars we had repaint before we could put them on the lot. The paint on that GNX I would rate pretty damn good for a mid 80s GM car.

I had the very first ‘86 GN registered in the greater Ft. Lauderdale area back then. About a year later, I learned there was going to be a limited run of modified Grand Nationals for the ‘87 model year and so I told myself ok, I’ll head down my local Buick dealer where I bought the ‘86 GN and order one with a $5,000 deposit. I figured when the car came in, I’d trade or sell my ‘86 and let it eat. Sticker on the car when I put down the deposit was $31,000 and change they told me and when I was finally contacted to let me know the car had arrived, I went to the dealership to check it out and found in was on the main showroom floor roped off with those velvety looking jobs they use at like a red carpet movie premier or something. I thought to myself, hmm, that’s interesting, either this thing is even more special then I had thought OR they really appreciated my business and wanted to make me feel super important LOL! Boy was I wrong. Upon closer inspection, I noticed the window sticker had an addendum added to the bottom of it by the dealer which indicated the price of the car was $75,000 bucks, yep that’s right, 75k!! I totally freaked out and went and hunted my sales guy down and asked, hey man, WTF is this crap all about🤬!!?? He explained that only 500 of the top selling Buick dealers (out of approx 2,700 dealers in North America at the time) qualified to get only one unit each and that the dealer principal decided to put a hefty premium on the car for that reason. Needless to say I was bent and argued till I was blue in the face but to no avail and was forced to demand the return my deposit, which they did. I simply could not afford a 75 thousand dollar car at that time, nor would I ever pay that much anyway, no matter how bad I wanted one. The irony is that a couple months later, GM put the Kabash on them marking it up and they were forced to sell it for list price. And they didn’t even bother letting me know and offer me first dibs considering I was the one who ordered it!! Of course they sold it immediately after having to bring the price down to normal so I missed out on owning the legendary ride because of a bunch of sleezy sales people! Bummer!!

I had a buddy when I was in the Army, he had an 87 Rosewood T Type modded. This was 1994ish and from the outside, inside and under the hood it looked stock. We would make soooo much money Street Racing it. Ran the 1/8 in 7.70's at about 98 mph. Ran the Quarter in 11.60's at 122. My car was an 89 LX Hatch with B cam, Intake, 4.10, etc and a 150 shot. I ran him from about a 30 roll up to 100 spraying a 125 and he was playing with me. He'd pull along side of me, pass a little, let off, and do it again as I sprayed and had my foot through the radiator. Great times

@@bigdaddy3927 😉👍 The GNX was cool and might have been fast but it having a V6 TURBO was a turn-off to be honest. Big V8 power is part of the American car culture! It's part of the appeal of an American sports car! If I want a 6 cylinder car, I'll get a German or Japanese car! 👍 The same goes for the Mustang SVO from the mid-80s. It had a 4 cylinder turbo engine and good performance but... a 4 cylinder in a Mustang? No thanks! No wonder it didn't last long in the market just like the GNX... Emission Regulations and Fuel crisis at that time were part of the reason why those models even got created to begin with... American car manufacturers like Chevrolet, Dodge and Ford also didn't use 4 and 6 cylinder engines for their most powerful models in the upcoming years and even decades! They used *V8 engines* as they should! 4 and 6 cylinder versions exist nowadays for a reason but no one really cares about them! 👉 Go overseas and ask people what comes to their mind when they hear "American muscle car" or even "American sports car": *Big V8 Power* it is!

What a beauty!!! I remember July 1987 checking out an 1987 Grand National in the showroom at Hearn Pontiac on Queensway in Toronto, it was $27K CDN, I had interest to buy but next day found my insurance was going to be $2800. So, i passed and bought a black Pontiac 6000 SE 4 dr. from Hearn instead for $21K (Tony Ciufo salesman) It looked great but that '87 GN was a dream. I kick my self whenever I think of it, but really I would of ended up killing that car anyways as a driver or killing me. What's crazy is in the mid 2000's I saw that same car at a classic car show at Canadian Tire on Queensway (Toronto) I was attending. I noticed the bill of sale displayed on the dash was dated July 1987, I ended up talking to the owner wondering if that was the "one", he said it was! He worked there and ended up buying it. He had it in pristine condition!

I worked at dealerships. People would claim super low miles on cars. If you look at the steering wheel on this one, the leather is shiny which means way more then 107 miles on odometer. The car has been repainted too, again 107 miles. Look at several angles for excessive orange peel. Don’t get me wrong, cool cars but don’t claim 107 to lure buyers into something that is not true.

I really like the GNX but I'd prefer one that has been used weekly say 25 miles or so or at least twice a month the problem with something like this if it started being driven and warmed up well is every gasket and seal hose will most definitely leak because they are old and dried up but it's mint I've been around old cars a long time and ones that get used weekly or monthly are better than ones that sit for long periods or years at a time of course someone with the money to purchase such a car will have no problem replacing gaskets seals and hoses

NASCAR had nothing to do with the success of the GN/GNX, it was the performance numbers, watching one pull away from a light, and how downright luxurious this high performance car was - even with the dealership price gouging that went on - Buicks MSP was WAY below dealership pricing. I remember, I had pen in hand to sign and got back up and walked away from the salesman's desk when the price on the paperwork was so far above MSRP. Nope, not sorry, they sold every one they made, and I bought a house the next month.

I had to put my grand national bib on before I watched this video 🥰🥰😛😛.I remembered when these gorgeous girls came out in 1987. I graduated high school in 1986 and wanted one sooooo bad but things didn't work out. It wouldn't be a gbody if it didn't have heavy doors. Yeah I don't need one but if the ol'e wallet had deep pockets I'd have one. 🤙🤙👍👍✌✌

This car was so insanely fast for an 80s car. When an 86 IROC-Z was pulling 0-60 in 6.6 seconds and Magnum PI's Ferrari was doing mid fives, this thing was doing mid fours!

I was told these were overrated. I'd like to see a video of a stock GNX getting into the 12's; One of the car magazines back then tested one and found it was only marginally faster than the regular GN, which was a high 13 second quarter mile car. They sure looked cool and it was immensely cool that a V6 Buick could kill both the Camaro and the Mustang! Great video!

If most people bought em and didnt use them, why not just order a black regal with no engine or trans? Buy 30K worth or gold in 1987 or rare silver coins. If it's never driven, you dont need an engine or trans. I have an 86 Olds 442, similar to the regal and it was a slug new (actually bought it a year old) but in 88 I put a 86 Olds 350 in it and had a blast for the next 12 years bracket racing, going to car shows, car cruises,etc.... It might be worth a fraction of this GNX but I cant put a price on the fun and memories. By the late 2000s and a couple unfortunate car accidents (not in the 442) the bracket racing declined but I still own it, it still runs 12.60s and still a blast to drive. Always drove it to the track, never was one for a trailer queen, especially only running 12s. But I totally dig this GNX.
