arthas is to warcraft what anakin is to star wars. not matter how much lore and characters they add, there forever will be the main pillar supporting their respective franchises, even compared to anduin and luke. I would pledge my soul to the lich king for an Arthas videogame trilogy, reliving his three warcraft III campaigns, made in the style of ryse: son of rome. it would be epic beyond measure.
@jamiebrown19913 жыл бұрын
Oh wow… now that would be a game I would play…. I’ll take it a step further though: In the beginning it starts out as Ryse with combat styles and fighting mechanisms, but as it progresses it becomes more like the latest God of War, especially once he obtains Frostmourne and all of his Powers.

Out of all warcraft cannon, Arthas easily greatest hero/villain. He attracted nearly 14 million sub at wows peak of popularity.
@chancepotter3955 Жыл бұрын
He works so well as a villain because we got to watch the situations that caused his descent into madness/evil. Plus most of the decisions he made within those circumstances are easily understandable and hard to disagree with. Purging Stratholme was such a pivotal moment in his character arc, and I remember first playing through Warcraft 3 and agreeing with his decision, immoral as it may have been. His perception of Jaina and Uther betraying/judging him for his decision is truly the moment that changed him and drove him to chase vengeance and power over light and morality.
@aqwseif111 ай бұрын
Also, because he was one of the smartest villains ever existed, he was trying to control the players and make them do his will. If he succeeded, the players easily could've been the strongest army any ingame npc can have, let alone villain!

He was actually Never a Good King and his heart was quite Literally Canonically Corrupted by Ner’Zhul when Arthas was a New Born Baby. . In Canon Lore, Arthas never had a Choice and he never had a Chance. He was destined before he was even Born to Always be Ner’Zhul’s champion and to Always destroy everything. . There was no possibility of Redeeming Arthas even before he was Conceived, let alone as a Baby or a Child or a Grown Man. By the time he was 5 years old in Canon Lore, he was already the Mindless Puppet of Ner’Zhul’s Whispers. There is no Redemption possible for Arthas.

It makes me so sad... Arthas' story is so painful. Killing his father, killing Uther... consumed by darkness. Losing everything. I wish some sort of... redemption for him in some way. He wasn't himself... lost son, as we feel sometimes... sorry for dramatic comment :D

Just swap Arthas name for Anakin's and your sentence still makes sense.
@Grigeral3 жыл бұрын
@@edhu9 Not even in the slightest. Arthas truly had the best of intentions, even purging the city, it was to prevent the spread from becoming worse. Then he fell harder after taking up Frostmourne. Anakin fell to save 1 person because he thought she was dying, spurred on by denials at things he believed he deserved. In short, Arthas' tale is of how duty and righteousness can lead to one falling from grace if the consequences of failure are high enough. Anakin's is a tale of how pride and love can bring about the same fall.
@jamiebrown19913 жыл бұрын
@@Grigeral You’re fighting over two characters that were literally written after Lucifer. Lucifer was supposed to be the Greatest of all God’s Creations, the Perfect Angel of Heaven; Just like how Arthas was called the Last Great Hero of Azeroth, the Perfect King of Lordearon. Lucifer believed he was Better than all else because of the praise even God himself had given to him in Heaven, and thus believed he was meant to become the One True God, and that All Power was to belong to him; Just like how Anakin was told he was the Chosen One, He who was meant to bring Balance to the Force, and it drove him to believing he was meant to be given All Power in the Galaxy, that he alone was the Strongest Force User. . Lucifer was Cast out of Heaven for his treasonous attempt at rebelling against god, ransacking Heaven before being Cast out and banished to Hell to become its Ruler. He desired Power over All and thus he was given power over All the Dead. Arthas fell from Grace because the only thing he cared about was saving his people, to the point that he doomed them all and killed them himself so that he could raise them as Undead. Anakin, in his mind, was already cast out of the Jedi order when they denied him the position of Jedi Master, and so, he turned to Evil in order to obtain the Power he believed he deserved.
@Grigeral3 жыл бұрын
@@jamiebrown1991 hate to break it to you, but Lucifer was not the first mythological creature to rebel against his father and/or deity. Religions were doing it tens of thousands of years before Christianity even became a conception. Set, Loki, Hades are 3 which immediately come to mind, although the entire Olympian pantheon ousted the Titans in a rebellion. So no... They weren't modeled after Lucifer at all. It's a trope which has been used for literally tens of thousands of years.
@jamiebrown19913 жыл бұрын
@@Grigeral you did not. Please tell me you did not!! You realize Norse mythology has been traced back to its origins in the 9th century AD, right???? 900 years AFTER the supposed time of Jesus? You did not seriously just try and say one of the newest forms of “Ancient” lore was older than Abrahamic religions that have been shown concrete evidence to have been started in at least 3,500 BCE? Before that, only Ancient Native stories are verifiable, like the Hopi of Arizona and the Black Africans of the Nile River.

Arthas' story is an interesting one, symbolically. For generations humans and orcs fought one another as mortal enemies. Then Arthas heard the call of the Lich King, Ner'Zhul, who, as it turned out, was an undead orc. When Arthas picks up the Lich King's helmet and wears it, making himself one with the Lich King, he joins humans and orcs together in undeath. The people who could not make peace in life would be at peace in death.

I agree. Despite all the similarities between Arthas and Vader, there is one main difference between them: Vader/Anakin redeemed himself in the end, Arthas did not (I have no idea where Shadowland story will bring us. I considered Arthas story ended in WotLK) How can it happen? Anakin was very lucky, he has Luke. His pure, kind-hearted son who, despite never knowing him personally, still believes there is still goodness in him. Padme believed too, but she failed bringing Anakin back (in Mustafar), because Anakin believed that Padme betrayed him. It was similar with Arthas. Jaina failed in bringing him back since she left him when he need her the most (Stratholme). Luke was different. He only knows Vader at the height of his infamous reputation. He did not have prior history with Anakin. Yet he still believed in his father. And that is why he managed to bring Anakin back in the end. Arthas did not have such person. By the time of WotLK, all people of Azeroth wanted to end him. Even Jaina gave up. In my headcanon, I thought his soul was doomed for eternity, a tragedy at its finest (T_T)

To be honest I don't actually see Arthas as much of a hero. He was a good guy because he was raised to be one. But it really didn't take much to change him. After the first real attacks of the scourge, Arthas very quickly loses sight of his priorities to Uther, Jaina, his father, his order, and his people, and is immediately consumed with the need for revenge, despite all the warnings he is given. Even with Frostmourne taken out of the picture, Arthas's corruption was well on its way. That said, this makes him more interesting to me, not less. He's someone who was raised to be believed by everyone including himself that he was noble or good, but put under pressure, the true man is revealed.
@derel58802 ай бұрын
Arthas was constantly fighting Ner'Zhul within the Crown of domination when he became the Lich King, the scourge would have gone rampage on Azeroth if not for a fragment of Arthas holding back the evil corrupting his mind.
