Many thanks, man. You definitely converted me to the Dark God of Cheese. I learnt to steamroll early game battles foregoing the old "hold the line" thingy, to actually win sieges without a sad amount of losses, and several little things to manage in the course of a campaign. I mostly play on Hard/Hard because I don't feel like having to play almost every battle by hand (so I'm a low level Acolyte of Cheese at best), but you definitely showed me how it's done. Great. Keep up the astonishingly good work!

Legend, Alliances are the best way to cheese a confederation, you make an alliance with someone, declare war and a bunch of other people and drag your new allies into them, then sue for peace with everyone, and bam they are left with a bunch of wars all alone and are suddenly very willing to get a confederation. 😁😁😁

Regarding the discussion about using phoenix as mounts: in the lore, leaders of the phoenix guard do use them as mount. These guys are called Anointed of Asuryan. In TW:W2, if they were to be a thing in the future, imo they should be implemented as heroes.

I never understood why people say that Tyrion is a good first Campaign for newcomers. High elves are super awkward to fight with because fighting one of them makes the other ones hate you. Add in the fact that you start surrounded by them it makes it really challenging to figure out who you should take out and who you should leave alone.

Not quite. There's Dark Elves and Greenskins to fight on Ulthuan. Once that's done with, just go a-viking to Naggaroth and deal with the Druchii.

I found teclis a much easier starting campaign. I remember when this game came out and it was recommended to start with Tyrion in the game, and that teclis was hard. I found the opposite to be true.

The one thing I always have hated about the Total war games, their diplomacy is so broken. I have had her at over 200 rep with me, and offered her 20,000 gold and she still said no, while I was number 1 in strength and she was in the 20's. It's like how you can have maxed out relations with someone and an alliance, and they will still for no reason attack you.

I hope you see this, but there is a way to guess where the chaos forces show up. It's basically wherever your armies aren't. If your armies are at the borders them they'll spawn in the center of your territory and if you're in the center of your territory then they'll spawn at your borders.

On my multiple Lothern Vortex playthroughs, I've noticed that ratbois and chaos bois spawn on 3 sections in Ulthuan: Avelorn, Tyranoc and Northen Yvresse and they always chose the spot with least amount of armies, basically quickly uniting Ulthuan and chilling with enough armies present at those regions, while other forces start their "friendly expeditions" ensures that you take out the trash the same turn they spawn

focus on growth and money first not military- build a strong economy to then support better troops early build slots are precious, build untainted where needed. dont overextend too early, its always better to have 2-3 wealthy provinces than loads of undefended poor settlements. watch online battles to get a grip with battles. in general military and defensive alliances are a detriment by dragging you into wars, try to keep your reliability high. once a provence is fully grown you can demolish the basic growth building. most importantly have fun, you will feel frustration but then comes greatness

It's funny that you mention how wrong you were to disband that phoenix in your first Vortex campaign. I remember watching you do that and instantly dismissing you and thinking "this guy doesn't know what he's talking about." It's nice to see you have no problem admitting when you're wrong, it's a rare quality. I was also wrong about you, and everything you say about how terrible melee infantry is at higher difficulties is exactly why I stopped playing higher battle difficulties, I just hate that now.

Is there a good guide for High Elves (and other races for that matter) for which units are good to pick, which heroes and how to build them? Playing my first Vortex campaign as them with no DLC (aside from free ones and stuff i got from owning WH1). Struggling somewhat since ranged options are limited for mid/late game (using Lothern Sea Guard mostly atm). Probably going to get the DLC at some point later, but not sure as I hate the idea of having to buy DLC because good units are locked behind it. Regardless, Lord, Hero and Mage Builds (as well as loremasters) would be much appreciated. Tried to look online, but it feels like a lot of guides are dated.

For mages, get light mage with entrepreneur trait and rush Net of Amyntok and Arcane Conduit. For Nobles, get Frugal trait and stack melee attack, defense, missile resistance and replenish troops. Recruit bad nobles (they don't require influence and have bad traits), and use them to secure influence on enemy settlements so you can get tons of influence for good heroes and lords

For Loremasters, i usually don't put them in armies and I look for Fruitful trait. +5 growth local province, +2 growth factionwide. If you get the DLC, spam sisters of Avelorn and get Handmaidens. Get entrepreneur handmaidens for money and sit them in your richest province, then get Resistant handmaidens and put them in an army, then build up their melee stats and replenish troops skills

Check your unit size settings, legend plays on Ultra where bolt throwers have 4. You might be on medium or even small.

It would have never even crossed my mind that a graphics setting could affect the gameplay like this. I tried the first few turns of this campaign on Legendary following this video yet during the siege of Angerrial I could never do more than 70% damage to the tower. Tried multiple times. 2 Bolt Throwers just weren't enough. Changed that one setting to ultra, restarted the campaign and destroyed the tower on the first try. The game seemed much easier all around afterwards despite the higher numbers per unit. So thanks for the explanation. Much appreciated.

Przemek Meyna I wouldn’t say that Ultra unit size is easier overall, only that ranged units are more powerful. Magic spells don’t really scale with unit size, so they’re vastly more potent the smaller the unit size setting is. Say a spell does 750 direct damage to a unit, that spell would be VASTLY more effective on small unit scale where units have several thousand less hp than ultra scale units. This is even more true with Healing Magic’s.

Legend, about what you say at 4:12:10 not all that works on legendary works in other difficulties, i play normal and the enemy does things that it does not do to you. Like charging being the defenders or just not fight with all his troups in the same moment, so sometimes its pointless to try to waste their ammo coz they use only 2 or 3 from his 7 archers to shoot, so the process would take forever, i've even seen missile cavalry charging up without shooting even an arrow... Sorry for the grammar, not my first language.

Hi legend. Well this campaign wasn't expected from you >:3. By the way I think high elves are a tricky race to come along and figure out its potential. Wheter melee infantry, monsters or missile infantry there's good options (never white lions of shame) but in papper thare's actuaclly more options that do not deserve to be considered practically. That's why I think a lot o people struggles with them, because there's no obvious choices of army dislays. Once you know their strenght lies partly on the archery and also their economy (mage and handmaiden's traits),and if you want to, strong dragon displays, and partly with handmaidens, nobles and mages bearing the lore of light for maximun efficiency of your armies, there's some problem again: the displays are not intuitive in most cases, so wheter you try to exploit thier potential or seek the enemy's weaknesses, you'll have to constantly make up a solution for these situations, rather than exploit the same strengths like other races. So that's my appreciation. Hope you enjoy it and i see you next time F*****

I usually just play vortex cause of the smaller map and shorter loading times, usually when im just wanting a shorter game with some cutscenes. I always save the rituals for the very end though so by the time i have to deal with chaos, im already with multiple fully fleshed out lords, a booming economy, and mulitple doomstack armies. It does make things a bit worrisome at the end if i dont have the lead on resources.

Have to disagree about using multishot on the tower over single shot with the Eagle Claw. When I used it in my Legendary campaign, the single shot did more consistent damage to the tower and it only cost about half of the ammo available - here legend used multi shot and it cost about 80% of his ammo.

I just beat the vortex campaign with with the high elves I was behind on my rituals so I had to launch several invasions against the all the other factions and the other clans that were ahead of me it ended up working I took all there ritual sites and held them until my last one was ready then I did my last one and won the battle with 8 dragons lol

You should only buy dlc of races you actually want to play. I would still recommend to buy every dlc because then you can experience every race so far and their units. (Not only in the campaign but in custom battle) but if you just want to play the game and get a fell for it, you really dont need any of the dlcs. There is enough content there already to play. The dlcs will only add onto any race you decide to play. Like if you want to play lizardmen or skaven, I would defently recommend buying the prophet and the warlock because the extra units you get in there are really good for your campaign. ESPECIALLY skaven because in that dlc you get rattling gunners and jezzails. Two VERY useful and damage dealing units that really help out flesh out the skaven roster.

Just buy the ones that look interesting if they're really on sale. You don't necessarily need them, they really just add playable factions, leaders, etc. I wouldn't worry too hard about what DLCs to get in particular when you're just starting out though.

Are you on small unit scale? Small has 1 per unit, normal has 2, large 3 and ultra, which Legend plays on, have 4 per unit

Vortex campaign is my way to escape the order tide. It's just annoying, that every mortal empire campaign ends up in a massive war with the empire. And the empire AI knows, that artillery spam is the way to go.

Turn off skirmish mode. To make them not chase enemies turn on guard mode. Both of these commands can be found under the until cards when you've selected any ranged units. You can command the entire group as well.

How is phoenix bad? Even my first game included me figuring out phoenix as extremely powerful unit. It was simple death from above against melee units. Then phoenix went against ranged units with melee attack. That scored it on average more kills than Tyrion in early game (about 4-5 times more than archers). Later I figured out that I could also just scare ranged units so they won't fire much less. Then just run away if close to death. I preferred not to try my luck with rebirth.

It really is unfortunate that this game throws Alasastar at you to trick new players into thinking White Lions of Chrace are a good unit. Cool, flavorful units? Sure. Good in sense of the game's meta? No. That being said, I ALWAYS have a flavorful Alastar army of White Lions, White Lion Chariots, etc. towards the end of the campaign.

The White Lions army is a tool with a few specific uses. They're cheaper than a full stack of Loremasters of Hoeth, and can win most Infantry fights, except ultra-lategame nonsense.
