That's because ammunition and WoM are counted into the balance of power calculation- which actually does make sense. If you're fighting a high elf army with no ammo versus a high elf army with full ammo, the latter is WAY more powerful. So removing that from the battle calculation would be bad. The problem is that the victory "type" (from heroic to close etc) is based on how much each force's balance of power moved during the battle. My solution is simple- have a battle balance of power that includes the ammo and WoM DURING the battle, but after the battle it only looks at "permanent" damage (casualties, reduced health, etc) for balance of power. If you used all of your ammo your BoP should be lower DURING the fight, but after it, you get all of that back for the next battle.

And my reason for not believing it is that I've had non serious battles where I had unlimited ammo mods with an army of mostly archers, and I had the exact same situation where I lose no one, and the game still says "Close Victory"

Irish Korean You can actually watch the balance of power move if you play below legendary and waste enemy ammo. Artillery especially. Sometimes if it’s a ranged-heavy army, you can literally flip the BoP by wasting their ammo. Also I noticed that Eltharion I get a lot of heroic victories because I tend to end with much more ammo.

Had a no-brainer battle where auto-resolve said I have no chances either, maybe it valued warp grinders high and they ended up getting shot by darkshards and then sandwiched by cavalry, they also had no ranged units so they rushed me before getting reinforcements which made it into a trivial battle.

Monsters were already balanced by being easier to hit, and having less efficient methods of hurting smaller, high-health units (splash damage reduces the damage dealt to each single model,) so they really don't need that vigor debuff. It's another case of SFO dragging battles out for no real reason, and monsters are already limited by availability in SFO, so it's a doubly pointless addition.

dude especially with chaos, I came back to warhammer after awhile and wanted to play my good old bois from the good old days... the campaign takes literally 50% longer then any other because you have to fight nearly every single battle that isn't a low tier undefended settlement. No joke if the auto resolve on the screen says 50-50 I can fight it for like 5% casualties without even using any cheese

That trick to avoid fire while attacking a gate reminds me of a trick I use with Shades or other units with stalk in sieges. Set up your visible units in front of the gate you're not attacking, then send the shades to climb the walls where they're undefended. Another trick with an Eshin-themed army specifically (need the entire army to have stalk) is that if the enemy can't see your army, they'll won't even put units on the walls. Once they do see a unit, they'll rush forward toward a wall, often through a chokepoint. Use your Eshin sorcerer to drop a vortex there to get several hundred kills.

Also when your main game plan for the late game is spam a bunch of single entity doomstacks out having a smaller unit scale helps :P Since your guys will always be 1 so reducing the number of models your opponents can field never hurts.

There's mods that do exactly that with no additional benefits (that I can remember anyway). I never play chaos without them! Not being able to encamp after a tough fight is nothing more than a waste of time to me. I also use a mod that increases enemy recruitment whenever I play chaos, just to level it out a bit. That way I'm facing more enemies but I'm also not stuck waiting an extra turn every time I raze something.

I recently did a V.hard Chaos campaign, was shockingly easy. Every campaign I'd played before way easy. Just being super aggressive, getting enough gold, not spending much time with vassals (just make sure they aren't fighting each other so they all rush the Empire) and rush a full shaggoth stack. Then it snowballs. I found the hardest thing was recruiting new lords and getting them built up just due to the time it takes.

As chaos u rly need to awaken norscan tribes so they help you to destroy the empire especially up near clan moulder. I managed to get the short campaign victory in 102 turns starting off as archeon and doing shaggoth spam, the main way you win is blobbing up all their units and using archeons fire magic. You CANT win a chaos campaign as quick as I did without having help from clan moulder and re-awakened norscan tribes and possibly even the vampire counts

Balance of power indeed works weird in this game sometimes. One time there was a battle on my empire campaign, when balance was just slightly better than here, but this was so easy even I have managed to won it without even suffering much of losses. And just so you understand - I’m so bad at tww, I even lose battles from time to time, that can be easily won automatically. On “medium” difficulty setting. So balance of power really makes no sense sometimes

re: norml unit scale If you're playing on an older or less powerful machine, especially a multipurpose laptop which is a lot of people's only computer nowadays then normal scale is what you need to make the battles run in any reasonable fashion.

I think it's not just damaged units being underestimated by balance of power, I think artillery is also overestimated. In a Skryre campaign I did shortly after 1.9 release, I kept getting battles where the Greenskins would attack into one of my armies with a full Waaagh! army and the auto-resolver would show the bar as something like 90% yellow. I played most of those battles out because just auto-resolving them felt cheap, and while I still did win those battles without much difficulty, it wasn't the one-sided slaughter the auto-resolver made it out to be.

Autoresolve can't understand artillery types. Kholek could take solo on a full stack of hellstorm batteries, but autoresolve doesn't get it.

Yesterday I was playing a Vampire Coast campaign, I was fighting elf. My army was, Noctilus on foot (it was pretty early in the campaign) five deckhans mob, six gunnery mobs with handguns, three mortars and three carronades. I was fighting an army of, the lord, two spearmen, two archers and two silver helms AND IT FUCKING PUTTED THE BALANCE OF POWER RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE WTF

@2:35 i know you've mentioned utlra was your preferred size but seems general consensus favors large. i dont like ultra mostly for performance issues + spells feel weaker due to entity caps representing a lower % of a units health. also, since ultra has way more units, your armies gain ranks super fast since 1 entity kill = 1xp. this leads to ridiculous snowball especially for missile units as max rank missile units on average are twice as accurate on their shots than a rank 0 of the same unit.

An interesting way to nerf missile units is to make them more realistically/authentic based on the table top, meaning make shots being able to be nullified completely, not like now that a group of Skavenslaves slingers can take down a dinosaurs with 140 armor because their hits will always do 1 damage at least, or better said, all range units will at least do 1 damage per shot to anything they hit always regardless of both armor and resistance. That would also help nerfing full archers units strat for Legendary that let's be real most people don't like.

my favorite is when you start a campaign. and after the 7th turn of farming the closes settlement. sitting with a 16 stack scaven slave, with ikits starting line up and lose the 8th auto revolve against 5 man badly damaged garrison that you had about 98% balance for. Good times. Im new so havent learned never to trust the bar. but ive watched enough legend to know you never go full clanrat.

The bomb throwers for Vampire pirate factions in auto resolve is so good but in battles its not great. The auto resolve gives them 300 kills and then in battle they can only get one of 3rd of that. Auto resolve is kinda busted in this game.

There are a lot of questionable mechanics in Warhammer 2, the AI cheats on high difficulties, and even on normal difficulty. Auto resolve, balance of power etc.. I guess they have to make comprises to make a playable game, but said compromises do interrupt quality of experience

BoP is always drunk when my Alith Anar Shadow-walkers doomstack siege a settlement (it doesn't seem to realise that hidden units are truly broken against the AI in siege battles) and I always quicksave ans close the game before doing the battle because I can't stand another boring battle (and the loading time... seriously 3K has higher requirements than W2, and it's less laggy and faster to load on the same settings, fix optimisation CA I know I need to buy a new computer but it ain't cheap)

You know Legend, not every WHFBTW player can play on ultra unit size. I cry every time watching you load campaing faster then ten minutes, and not needing to jerk around for half that for every battle. Also my pc chokes and drop to 15 fps when there is more than 4k units, making TK and skaven almost unplayeble with spam.

If you can, look into solid state drives. I had the same problem until I got one. Load times are bearable. Besides that, try and get a graphics card like a GTX 1060 or similar level card. Also make sure you've got at least 8 gigs of RAM. It's not too expensive and helps as well

@@lesROKnoobz GTX 1060, 8GB ram, SSD (sata). The game chokes like shit in large battles regardless of graphic setting. I play on ultra because it barely makes a difference lol. I saw down to 8 fps in a 4v2 battle for king's glade as the carsteins, when I zoomed in. At least with the new old AI control feature you can utilize all your forces for overwhelming advantage when you can. These bottlenecks seem to be CPU-based, and I have only an old haswell i5. I play on large scale because it's defaulted by the devs, and ultra seems like complete overkill. Maps are small enough already. I don't see why would anyone play these new Total wars without an SSD. With the amount of manual battle grind loading times over 1 min aren't acceptable. You can buy a 120GB SSD for reasonably cheap. Otherwise, there are so many good m2tw mods still being developed and supported.

"What's with people playing normal unit scale." Having had my system default to normal for a while. Then changed to the largest for a few rounds. Magic because low key useless at the largest scales. It is a pain in the ass to set up your army more so in cities with you almost forced to overlap units. Don't even get me started on ladders. Siege wise it gives the defense a strong advantage. Towers are stronger the smaller the scale but the chokes are less effective as well as defenders fighting people coming off ladders are much weaker. Often I find even though my unit wins 1 on 1, they get smashed when they fight going up a later on the larger scales because only half of the army fights at a time letting them do less damage when on smaller it is much easier to get both troops up the wall then archers up the walls right after. Clearing walls is so much easier on normal then using them to shoot down just makes sieges stupidly easier just ignoring magic. Siege weapons become much more useful the smaller the scale. If you like to fight in the open then sure the largest scales are awesome. Sieges are a pain in the ass when you do that though. Also small unit scales are for people who want to run around with 19 mage heros rather then play the game.

@@gthjzby887 again actual armies listed for AI to follow and use like now but not just doomstack this unit for every army you have ai also if it does die just global recruit it back in 2 turns the end game for total war at the moment is beyond boring every time I get into late game it literally just becomes a case of ai doomstack being ambushed move up take the town and repeat there are no fun builds to avoid getting out maneuvered no tactical emergency just my armies cost me money to field AI with 1 region is happily spamming 4 full stacks with no upkeep lol if I dont doomstack il be doomstacked

I seriously feel like the auto-resolve is always out to get you. It makes absolutely no sense that you can have 0 chance of winning an auto-resolving, yet have a much higher balance of power in battle.

i think, rather than putting up a mechanic to explain their faulty auto resolve system, they should just fix their auto resolve system.

empire always seem to get really high autoresolve buffs :/
