I did not open any packs between Neo Revelation and the last two ex sets, because I restarted collecting in 2010, but Legends Awakened and Secret Wonders to me were the most enjoyable sets before some XY series sets. I liked the card and holo designs better than in the HGSS and BW series (prettier holo effect and more text-filled cards, not as much empty space as with current cards) and I also like LV. X and GX more than EX. DP/Platinum Cards also had more interesting attacks to me, 0 Energy attacks, 2 type Energy attacks or e. g. Psychic Energy attack on a Grass Vileplume. Then they had some carrying berries etc. I think I only opened about 10 DP/P booster packs though, probably 3 of this set, and too many of Surpreme Victors and Rising Rivals, which I did not like.

I am similar to you, I collected a lot from Base Set through Gym Challenge, then a little during the Neo sets, and not at all during the EX series of sets, then picked up again with the Diamond and Pearl series of sets.

Actually when I bought the first packs again, Next Destinies was the newest set, but the last ex and DP/P series packs were still around to the normal prices or even cheaper and I had no idea about Generation 5, so I started with them.
