Jason Brouhard I don't think he dose. But at the same time, why would he? If he did, Aloy would suspect something. Seeing as she was able to track so much and learn so much, even a little information would get her attention.
@Derekloffin
@Derekloffin 6 жыл бұрын
Seems unlikely to me it would be Sylens given the time it happened. It would be when he was much much younger, and he doesn't look that old. Even assuming he was old enough to organize such a thing, it seems quite unlikely he'd know of the place, especially pre-Aloy's birth when he would have no Hades to give him info. It seems more unlikely still he'd have the resources to commission such an assault. Now, that said, it could be connected to Sylens, maybe someone Sylens initially learned from and took up the cause of, or similar. We still don't know much about Sylens so this is certainly possible.
@mattstorm360

@@Derekloffin We don't know how the outlanders died. I suspected that maybe Sylens could have been one of them. He stole the artifacts of the banuk tribe by convincing them he was a shaman. He even had a few people confirm it. People that vanished along with him. What if those people were part of the 12 outlanders. What of sylens was one of the outlanders? The last one nearly got the best of Rost. Maybe that was because he wanted Rost to think so.

Knowing the Nora they don’t take kindly trespassing so taking hostages to ensure their safety was more likely if they were looking for something. And yeah I believe they were after the ancient armory...and the reason they left empty handed was that they didn’t know the configuration,how to open the armory...maybe do to a lack of “Focus”.

I thought "beyond Devil's Thirst" to mean east or south of it, but given the geography of the land, I would never think it meant that bunker. I believe whatever they came after, they got, because this is before the signal to GAIA. Whoever hired them knew exactly what they need from there.

Maybe they weren't after the ultra weave or they had something else. What else could have been in that bunker? The ultra weave may have been the ultamate prize but there could have been more artifacts to take in there. Add example: The bunker may not have had any working models but maybe it may have had spare parts or broken focuses and possibly repair guides for soldiers and maintenance. It could be part of the haul they found. If there was, it would help someone immensely if they found a focus with a flicker of life left in it.

Want to mention several opinions here: 1. The story will most likely be mentioned in Horizon 2. Teersa told Aloy this story only at the near end of Zero Dawn, probably indicating a later elaboration. The storg also mentioned the Forbidden West. 2. In the recent story trailer of Horizon 2, Aloy has been wearing the shield weaver almost the entire time, probably hinting a potential meaning to the outfit. 3. The outlanders may not belong to the same tribe. But they scatter around the world, probably to find power cells in ruins. 4. The theory of Sylens behind this makes sense: Sylens may equip the team with focus, so the team knows the need of power cells. Also, they know whenever the Nora braves are near them, maybe with focuses? 5. There's a closed side door in the bunker, closed but intact. What's behind it? Is another ancient armor already taken?

Since this was before the Red Raids we can rule out Hades being involved, the next person on the list and would probably be Sylens which makes sense because he was looking around for new knowledge and such; he could’ve been busy at the time in the Banuk settlements or elsewhere

I also had me doubts about this story, I finished the game and remained unsatisfied by the answers I got. I assumed Odd Grata was the woman who saved Rost, and Rost took care of her even if she ignores him, since he's the cause of her being an outcast. She never lost faith, but couldn't let him die either, so she did the unthinkable and now is paying for it for the rest of her life. Rost hasn't been shown to care much for other outcasts as much as Grata, so I believe he'd be running errands and helping her, long before Aloy became the helping hand. The other assumption I arrived to, was that maybe Sylens was behind the party exploring the Ruins. He did confess to alloy that he did terrible things in his search for knowledge, not only referring to the Eclipse. That would also explain the lack of information we've got out of the game, since maybe it will play a bigger role in the sequel. Sylens will surely be back, since in the trailer of the sequel he's shown overriding machines with the help of hades (presumably) with another tribe from the Forbidden West. Can't wait for the next game to answer some of our questions, and surely bring us 1000 new questions. =]

The idea of the shieldweaver armour being the motivator behind the intrusion of the 12 into the Sacred Lands is a really clever, intriguing and plausible one. It does indeed make sense. I always thought that they were actually after the massive cache of focuses underneath Mother's Heart. That they messed up, and went into the wrong ruin. Like you, I also wondered whether Sylens was behind the expedition. However, I cannot imagine a younger Sylens NOT accompanying the 12 into the ruins. He learned to be cautious and more 'behind the scenes' later, but a younger version of him... would have DEFINITELY wanted to go in person. Besides which, I just flat out hate the idea of Sylens being responsible for such a failure of an expedition filled with such pointless violence and cruelty.

What I don’t get is why would Rost need to be a “death” seeker to seek vengeance? Why not just a normal seeker? I mean, Aloy was made a seeker with the express purpose to track down the people responsible for attacking the Nora, and beyond that, let’s be real, between the Eclipse and and the bandit camps, Aloy kills at least a couple hundred humans throughout the game. The only reason I could see the “death” add-on is if the tribe provides high-quality weapons/equipment and ample supplies for the journey to further improve Rost’s chances, some that would otherwise be taboo or something. But, then again the scenario’s tied up in the All-Mother religion so maybe there is no go reason for, and it’s simply ceremonial.
@EternityRose1
@EternityRose1 3 жыл бұрын
I have kind of thought of it as like an emotional thing. Idk how but a death seeker would be (essentially) dead inside with the sole purpose of killing and by being emotionless... Making that killing easier. Aloy however was a normal seeker and remained (relatively) emotionally stable plus her job was meant to help the nora with vengeance as a side objective. You could be right though. It is probably all ceremonial and the difference is rost was meant only to kill while aloy was meant to find answers and she did what she wanted with what she found.

The fact that Rost tracked some of the outlanders as far as the Forbidden West makes me wonder if some of them may have been Quen. It wouldn’t be a surprise to discover that a Quen Diviner may have come across some bit of data regarding the development of the Ultraweave armor and its general location. They may have had to hire others who know the Embrace relatively well without disturbing the Nora, so I think it makes sense that they only took hostages because they got caught.

Maybe it was Sylens but I'm reluctant to think so. I wonder if perhaps these people are remnants of something else or perhaps a collective group that serves recon purposes? Twelve people residing over five different regions to gather intel on the primitive folk and one area needs probing - the agaraphobic Sacred Lands. How strict are the Nora with adhering to tribal regulations verses honoring their dead? Rost answered that question... A bit far-fetched but maybe they're from the moon? I mean, what were those people on the Lunar Mining base doing while the world was destroyed? Maybe these outlanders not even human but rather ex-mutiserviter automatons... Dun-dun-duuuuun!

Since there at lots of civil wars in the tenakth he must have heard of the such armor of which he could have used to take over the other tenakth clans. And maybe since the tenakth reside in the forbidden west they could have a better understanding of ancient tech, it could also explain why tenakth and utaru were among the twelve because maybe Regalla gave them a contract to get the armor and it went south when trying to find the armor e.g. the village being attacked

My theory: The 12 Outlanders were a hunt team of the core machine HADES, somewhere in the forbidden west: Their mission, hunt Elisabeth Clone, Aloy. But the calculations were wrong, the machine send the killers too early, before the clone was complete thats why they just killed the hostages, including kids, and then flee. Rost saw something different in the far west, the core of Hades, that is why he was so reluctant to Aloy to know the machines.....and the Machine core is Ted Faro mind, he was DESPERATE to survive the apocalypses, maybe he was able to survive as an AI

Hah! This is one of the few videos of yours, that I hadn't yet watched. Having just watched again, the scene where Teersa tells Aloy Rost's story, I thought I'd better see what your thoughts were on this mystery and I find (of course) that you have it well covered. As well as agreeing with your thoughts (though I hadn't investigated it enough to think of the Shield Weaver armour angle), I would suggest an entirely practical reason to kill all the hostages when they left the Sacred Lands. Rather than doing it out of spite or being just plain evil, this would have been done as a precaution, because the remaining hostages would have been witnesses to whatever they had been up to. Assuming this group didn't get what they came for, allowing the hostages to live, would have warned the Nora of the importance of the exact location they had visited, especially if they (or another band of mercenaries) were to be sent in the future to try again. Returning to the Shield Weaver armour: we of course, now know that Aloy has it. On the assumption that we/Aloy will have it in the next game (HFW), might suggest that if someone (or an interested group) were after it originally, that this will now make Aloy a target for them, in much the same way as that Errand 'A Curious Proposal' in HZD, where they lure Aloy to a remote location in order to try to obtain her spear.

I think we will definitely shed more light into these events in the future game. The fact that Rost made it that far only means he must have had some help, and that help was perhaps knowledgeable enough to help him navigate the vast world he exposed himself to. I wouldn't be surprised if the next 'modern day' adversary is tied to this part of Rost's history, with the next 'ancient threat' being Hephaestus and finally, the pursuit of Sylens being the last main pillar of mystery. On top of this, I think we will see more of the geopolitical landscape play a role. The awakening of so many Faro robots, even if they were not all awakened, will surely demand questions and the Sun King Avard will be the first to be looked to for answers. He in turn will turn to you, Aloy, for the majority of his wisdom. How much to reveal, and to whom, I'm sure will play a much larger role in the story than it has so far. Lastly, I want to see the Nora tribe play a greater role in the proceedings, rather than just being left behind in their blissful but uneducated state.

Did you just imply Sylens may have been the hidden hand behind the Outlanders? His interest in old world technology is well documented and manipulating others to do his bidding is well within his wheelhouse. My personal headcanon for my new game plus playthroughs is that Rost collected weapons and armor during his search teaching Aloy everything he learned hence why she has things like Rattlers, Tearblasters, and even Banuk weapons

This is all a very interesting and compelling theory to explain the unknown Outlanders Rost hunted and their motivations and honestly I think there is some legitimate credence to it to render it if not true outright than at least strongly plausible... And the more I think about it the more I find it very interesting and compelling theory for why these outlanders would want to even bother to go into Nora lands as deep as they are and risk the arrows and spears of the Nora and why they were so willing to kill as wantonly and callously as they did... and also why they were so secretive and little was known of their motivations by the Nora themselves: maybe they were hunting for very old world weapons an armor tech and came across data of probably they most powerful and potent military grade combat armor that used the most advanced shielding technology of the time of the Old Ones; that kind of armor in Aloy's hands was a force to be reckoned with; imagine if a bunch of murdering cutthroats with ambitions got a hold of such an advanced, ancient armour; that kind of highly advanced and powerful old world technology, even as an armour; is a motherload find if someone was able to find knowledge and information about where such a armor technology is and where to find it.... how tragic it is that ilk such as these outlanders: were the one's to happen upon such knowledge to than go and seek such a prize for malevolent and craven ends or at least at the behest of whomever hired them The outlanders would have been very well armed and heavily armed themselves... who knows? However the series events played out that drove them to take hostages to begin with: I suspect that maybe they first arrived and took hostages to try to find and confirm the location of the Shieldweaver armor: and than after it was confirmed; they likely wanted to try and set out trying to obtain the armor and figure out how to secure it.... but given how the armor was still there; they likely didn't have the means to actually get in and may, after trying every possible means to get into the Shieldweaver chamber to retrieve the armor; to than maybe find out where the powercells were or if they did managed to find any of those those powercells; they somehow lacked others or needed to try and find those remaining powercells and thought they could return once they escaped the Nora hunting them.... but of course after they murdered the last Nora hostages, including Rost's daughter: they didn't count on Rost becoming deathseeker and hunting their asses down And the entire time it could have been a case that their survival from Rost took precedent and thoughts of the Sheildweaver and powercells to get it: begain to become a secondary concorn for them should they survive and escape Rost, went completely out their minds from that point, or grew to become something they would curse bothering to entertain for all the trouble it brought them The only detail the video seems to overlook is that: it might have been most of the Powercells were placed in random places for the Outlanders to try and find later to try again for safe keeping... if only Rost wasn't hunting them relentlessly So far the only Powercell still found in Nora Lands, was the one found tucked away in Mother's heart in All Mother Mountan in that one area that looked like it was storied in an area similar in aesthetic to old one ruins... and the theory has had me start wondering if maybe one of the outlanders dropped it and it was secured by either Rost or another Nora and it was brought before the High Matriarchs after all was done before or after the Outlanders killed the last Nora hostages and they weren't sure what to make of the Powercell and decided to store it away in some nook of All Mother Mountan. And add to that the other thing that kept the outlanders from Securing the Shieldweaver armor: is that they didn't have a focus to help them make sense of what they needed to do to unlock the multi-tiered locking mechanisms and doors to get the armor in the first place To add to that: what if one of the reasons the outlanders killed the last of the Nora hostages on the other side of the river; was because some time during their escape from the Nora; that one Powercell that is found in Mothers Heart in all mother mountain: that powercell was dropped and the outlanders realized that they lost that one powercell and were so angry and bitter about it and maybe even thinking that the Nora somehow got it or at least made them loose the only thing they hoped to give them this all powerful armour with no way to retrace their steps to find in Nora lands; they decided to spitefully murder the last of their hostages in cold blood for making them loose track of that one powercell; the other hostage deaths before that point were warnings and threats to try and keep the Nora braves at a distance; abhorent a tactics as it was; it followed a logic one can at least see.... but the mass slaughter of the last hostages on the otherside of the river outside Nora lands; there would be no reason save either mindless sadism and cruelty for it's own sake despite serving no actual ends... or if they lost that powercell one way or another and wanted to vent their frustrations out of spite to the Nora The other detail the video seems to overlook; looking at the videos for the powercell Locations; it looks like the outlanders may have found at least two powercells and may have been trying to find and track down the other powercells until the Nora were being too stubborn in their persuit of them that they needed to withdraw to get the heat off... and than proceeded to loose one of the powercells they did find and that reached a breaking point for the outlanders to than motivate them to just murder the last hostages in cold blood; because a few of the powercells are in locations that seem like are either completely untouched and thus not have been found by the outlanders yet to store in these areas for safe keeping, like in the Ruins Aloy fell into as a child... maybe the gravehoard... debatably Gia Prime... one of them may have for sure hidden the powercell at Makers End in such an out of the way elevation point so only they knew where to find the thing for late, maybe. Because the placement of some of these powercells we find seem to have been locked away untouched in places the outlanders just don't seem to have disturbed at all, so it's likely while they knew of the existence of the Shieldweave armor, what it was and could do, and where it's location generally was... they may have needed to find the powercells and were maybe able to find one or two but needed more and after searching and running out of hostages to kill that things became just far too vexing for them. And the loss of one of those powercells and either not knowing where to find it or realizing the Nora managed to get a hold of what they dropped; was the straw that broke the camels back. But yeah; a harrowing tale all the same; and one that we have to piece together from the context clues of the environmental storytelling.

I would absolutely love to see updated lore videos for all of these. It was funny hearing you say the cannibalistic tanakth when they aren't in hfw and they joke about being known that way.

I assume whatever it is they took will play some role in the sequel. I hope so at least. That would be a really cool tie-in. There are so many of these little side stories in the 1st game & I truly hope they took the time to integrate each and every one into the sequel in a meaningful way. That would be a sign of truly masterful storytelling.

maybe they killed the hostages so that no one knows what they found in the bunker. Like a signal that could trigger hades. All set in motion by....someone who hired these mercenaries for the mystery item.

Of they were searching for the armor, they misjudged its power. Nora protector armor with 4 slots is superior to shield weaver.

These videos are great! Would like to bounce a theory off you to see what you (and others) think. At the end of Rost Deathseeker ordeal , he was dragged back across the borders of The Embrace by a female Brave. Doing so would most likely result in becoming an exile from the tribe/ made an outcast . I believe that female Brave who rescued Rost was none other than: Odd Grata., the elderly woman living at the top of the mountain peak overlooking All Mother Mountain that Aloy and Rost occasionally hunt food for. Losing her family was to much for her mind to handle, having a mental breakdown, resulting in her becoming "odd ". Like Rost, she was made an outcast instead of an exile by the Matriarchs and was allowed to remain in The Embrace. As a " thank you" for saving his life, Rost (and later; Aloy) would hunt and do certain chores for her as "the honorable thing to do". What do you think? Plausible?
