I acknowledge this epic was produced and filmed in the grandiose style of the 90’s, but it’s still been one of the - if only - anchors of cathartic solidarity for me in my own odyssey. I am the middle son who chose nature, compassion, and experiences over wealth and notoriety, I went to war, and upon returning to the states I’ve disappeared for months and years to deal with my demons alone… and still doing as such while searching for a home I’m growingly accepting may just not exist for me. But I’ll keep on moving until I either find home again, or get taken out by a grizzly.

Not Samuel, .I think Tristan did love Suzanna but he had too many demos inside, he couldn't make her happy. And he does feel even more guilt that he can't stay and has to descend into madness
@annalisavajda2522 жыл бұрын
He was a bit wild but I thought he had some PTSD too and she and him had just both loved Sam so much they bonded because of him and she had some sense of loyalty to the family because of him too married the other brother I guess she was just so devastated she needed some semblance of him after he died but he was gone forever and I don't think she ever recovered Tristan just had a different grieving process imo. He had feelings for her but it was painful just reminded him of Samuel probably.

She is the typical modern woman. First its puppy love (samuel), then its her getting pounded by Chad phase (tristan), then she realizes she'll never control Chad AND shes getting older. So its time to Settle on her Best option. So she settles for alfred
@Barrythebarnabas Жыл бұрын
The “typical” modern woman never would’ve even told Tristan she’d wait or even try to care that much. Shows how little you know about women tho 🤣

I used to think Susannah was responsible for the demise of the family, but it might have just been Tristan. He made eyes at Susannah while she was engaged to Samuel. He also became engaged to her and split to find himself rather then letting the wound heal with their upcoming marriage. This caused his father's health to decline. Then he comes back after a few years when he felt like it and married a girl just out of her teens. Names a kid after his dead brother even though his dead brother's barren widow wanted to name her potential child with Tristan that name. He starts bootlegging getting his wife killed and causing the deaths of others. He then becomes a deadbeat dad skipping town. Yet, the one son who became a respected politician and faithful husband is the bad one?

She practically enforced this "relationship" from the beginning. She loved Samuel sweetly but was obsessed with Tristan and didn't even morn Samuel long enough to move on.
