I love machines and today I take you for a tour of the Royal Thai Air Force museum and the legends of the skies showcased within. I learned so much at this museum and was overwhelmed with the 70+ aircraft that are on exhibition at Thailand's Air Force Museum in Bangkok. There is a rich aviation history in the country of Thailand. Many people don't know that Thailand actually declared war on the United States and Britain during WWII. This museum holds some very rare aircraft, such as one of the last two remaining Japanese Tachikawa KI-36 trainers, the last surviving Vought O2U Corsair, one of three surviving Curtiss BF2C Goshawks, a Spitfire and several Nieuports and Breguets. Join me for a tour of the whole museum and all the secrets it holds. There are plenty of Bell, Sikorsky, as well as lesser known makes of helicopters housed in this massive museum. I'll even share some of Thailand's history as it relates to WWII. Let's go check this place out and see what hidden treasures it's hiding.

I love sky machines. I used to work as an aircraft mechanic in AIR AMERICA during SE Asian war during 60s -70s in Udorn. We mostly repaired Trojans and some helicopters. Thanks for review. We did the transformation of UH 34 to S - 58 helicopters too. We also changed pilot normal seats to ejection seats in T-28s.

Hello from Thailand. Even for Thais like me, I've only been there once 20+ years ago when I was in a primary school. A lot has changed... 5:55 The sign in front of the Sikorsky says 'Please take care of your child'. No wonder for a cockpit as high as that.

2:44 This was a jet trainer that the Royal Thai Air Force Aeronautical Engineers had arranged to build under license back in the early 90s. The company I worked for at the time supplied a German 5-Axis MAHO CNC Lathe as part of the machinery purchased to accomplish this objective. At the time of procurement all the parts that made up the trainer were spread out on the floor for display in a section of the Aeronautical Engineers workshop. Another of these trainers is resting on the runway of the original airport in downtown Chiang Rai.

1:34 The C-47 Dakota IS the DC-3, just in its military form. The majority of DC-3s flying today started life as Dakotas. 11:20 The text is wrong. You were right: it is a Curtiss Helldiver, which was intended to replace the SBD Dauntless. Unfortunately it ended up being very troublesome and hard to fly so it was not very popular. 14:12 This is a SAAB JAS-39 Gripen, which started service in the late 90s and is still very much in service today, and is now produced in its NG iterations as the JAS-39E and F. 14:25 That is a Cessna A-37 Dragonfly, and was a popular strike aircraft during the Vietnam War. Great video! Amazed at how much is displayed at that museum, I could spend the whole day there! First time watching your videos, certainly not the last!

The "Low Rider" jet is an A-37 Dragonfly. It based off of the Cessna T-37 Tweet. It has bigger engines, re-enforced wing w/hard points and 7.62x51 6 barrel rotary gun. Used in SE Asia for close air support and anti-insurgent actions. Also when inside by the the F16, F5, the other jet w/a forward canard wing is the Swedish Grippen. Single engine single seat muilti-roled fighter. I belived the RTAF is replacing their aging F16s w/Grippens.

The details about equipment onboard remain classified even after their retirement. 9:27 that OV-10 was probably the most decorated in RTAF's fleet, with its pilots receiving freedom defense medals (roughly comparable to American Silver Star, I think) on 8 different occasions flying against communist insurgency

I never thought much about or going to an aviation museum, and didn't even thought there's such a place like this in BKK. Nice place with so many airplanes. You know that reminds me of my childhood watching old war movies and playing airplane toys. You do really know how to find nice and interestng places to pay a visit to. Well, may be next stop, try Royal Thai Army museum.
